October 28, 200520 yr I went to see The Amityville Horror today, not bad at all, very nice overall, enjoyed it
October 30, 200520 yr i was looking forward to the corpse bride...with good reason. having now seen it i can say it was well worth the wait and anyone who hasnt seen it yet needs to get down to their local showing! Tim Burton is a genius and if you liked 'nightmare before christmas' youll be bowled away by this most recent venture!
October 30, 200520 yr I'm looking forward to snagging me a copy of Born to Fight somewhere, the sequel to the wonderful Ong-Bak, starring Phanom Jeerum. I expect flying 720 degree flying spinning elbows galore!

November 5, 200520 yr The Descent is an absolutely brilliant film, can't recommend it highly enough. Nothing to do with the novel of the same name, either. I think Brit horror films are going from strength to strength these days. Nice to see.In contrast, The Cave, which is similarly-themed, is a bag of shite. Avoid. Or, alternatively, watch when drunk. Barrel of laughs. Also on my radar are Brit gangster films The Business and Revolver, the former by Nick Love (Football Factory) and starring the up-and-coming Danny Dyer, the latter directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Jason Statham.
November 5, 200520 yr I am still waiting for Spiderman 3, X-Men 3, can't wait to see Venom and Carnage
November 7, 200520 yr I have great hopes for Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, directed by Shane Black, who has done a lot of good action film scripts. This is his directorial debut, so I hope he does good. Also looking hopeful is The Brothers Grimm, directed by Terry Gilliam. As long as Matt Damon doesn't bugger it up...
November 7, 200520 yr I am still waiting for Spiderman 3, X-Men 3, can't wait to see Venom and Carnage <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wouldn't Carnage make Spiderman a PG 56 movie or something like that? I mean, all he ever does is chop people to pieces. And I thought it was going to be with Venom only? (and with a skinny guy playing him at that.)
November 29, 200520 yr A film from the same people that didShaun of the Dead? A Brit pisstake of the Yank cop buddy movie? Count me in, baby! Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost! Can I get a HELL YEAH? https://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0425112/Hot Fuzz
December 8, 200520 yr Anyone like Evil Dead? Thought so. How about an entirely new film (No Ash! Boo!) penned by Sam Raimi? Perhaps now that Raimi has shown he can skilfully handle a big budget and combined with the massive cult success of the previous Dead films, he'll be given a bucket of cash and free reign and we'll get a kickarse film out of it? https://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0434020/
December 8, 200520 yr One of the few remakes of note, Ju-On: the Grudge was actually a pretty good horror film. The sequel is from the same director and apparently will take a different direction than the Jap originals. The Grudge 2
December 8, 200520 yr Author Sam Raimi proven himself with Spider-Man? He made ONE good movie in Army of Dorkness, and some okay for low budget in Evil Dead I and II. Spider-Man is okay at best in my book, and the sequel was just embarrassing. The Grudge was okay, and could actually have been good if it wasn't for the idiotic move of putting Buffy in it. She's completely ruined after the series. Only good thing I ever saw from her was Cruel Intentions (in the way of acting that is). I bet the reason is that movie reflects her personality Shaun of the Dead was fairly okay, so Hot Fuzz might be fun.

December 8, 200520 yr Author So you though the Spider-Man movies were good? What did he do that is worth praising besides Evil Dead? (mainly Army of Darkness for me)
December 8, 200520 yr Truth be told, I'm not much of a Spidey fan, but they were pretty complete adaptations. Pretty admirable in itself, considering most book/comic adaptations end up as pure rubbish. What else has he done? Darkman was ok, The Quick and The Dead was a good spaghetti western, just twenty or thirty years late for the trend. A Simple Plan was excellent. The Gift was an ok film, too. I don't look at how much the ED films cost, unless it's on the 'plus' side of things when you consider how little he had to work with, the films are better than must high budget efforts.
December 12, 200520 yr I just watched Tony Jaa's new martial arts flick, Tom Yum Goong, and allow me to say: IT ROCKS MY SOCKS! The story is pants. Jaa plays a thai badmofo whose pet elephants are stolen by evil Chinese-Australian gangsters for a sinister purpose. He disagrees with this, and then pretty much proceeds to brutally beat every ass that gets in his way in a row of more-or-less ridiculous but insanely impressive fight sequences. The fights are even better than in Ong-Bak, and the stunts are the sickest you're ever likely to see (little to no wirework at all, even with insane 720 degree airial spinning kneekicks from hell) Of particular note is a five minute long fight sequence shot in ONE TAKE, where Jaa makes his way to a skyline restaurant by gruesomely whupping an army of henchmen with crazy muay boran techniques. Note to self: Do not stab Tony Jaa, as it will only piss him off and make him break your arms. Anyone who enjoys old-school martial arts movies NEEDS to check out Tony Jaa's work, Ong-Bak and Tom Yum Goong.
April 20, 200620 yr Night Watch comes out on DVD in the UK next week. I have scorned importing the DVD for ages now, so I hope it's worth the wait. https://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/ Also waiting for the DVD of Seven Swords, too, which was a good martial arts flick by any standard. Tsui Hark is a master. https://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0429078/ I hope Underworld: Evolution is better than the first film. Still, at least Kate is still in it... https://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0401855/ And will Silent Hill be the first good game-to-film adaptation? I bloody hope so. https://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0384537/
May 3, 200620 yr When A Stranger Calls. https://www.odeon.co.uk/fanatic/film_info/s...Stranger_Calls/ Funny, but in a shit way.
May 3, 200620 yr Author Sounds like POS! Free Jimmy has been released in Norway. I haven't seen it yet, but I surely will!
May 3, 200620 yr I keep trying to find those films you mentioned earlier, Slaughter, especially Elling, but no luck as yet. There is a Region 1 DVD of Elling that I'm currently trying to get hold of, and yes, I am very much looking forward to Free Jimmy.
May 3, 200620 yr Author Well, I don't think Elling is available with English subtitles yet. At least I haven't been able to find that in Norway, and I have been looking. What other movies did I talk about? Probably Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (Flåklypa Grand Prix) for one? It is available in English now, and is easy to pick up in Norway. If you can't find it in the UK, I can always pick up a copy for you and send it. It is a MUST SEE! EDIT: After a quick look at Amazon.co.uk, it's apparent you were right. Guess that one is your best bet, as the Norwegian version of Elling only has Scandinavian subtitles.
January 15, 200818 yr FINALLY found Free Jimmy and Flaklypa Grand Prix, going to settle down and watch them tonight
January 20, 200818 yr Free Jimmy was a lot more adult than I was expecting (not a bad thing, though). Was there quite so much swearing in the original dub, I wonder? And the sex scene took me by surprise. Good film, all round. Made me laugh, even if I do have a child's mind. In a glass jar. On my desk. Been on a bit of a war film run lately, and have seen: The Bridge, about a group of Hitler Youth ordered to defend a bridge to the last, er, child. Even the army are fleeing but the kiddies stay to fight. Good film, quite moving in that you're shouting "Run, you fools!" at the telly. Went The Day Well?, is about a British village kindly hosting some British soldiers, except (gasp!) they're not Tommies, but the dastardly Hun come in cunning disguise to hold the village hostage. Totally un-PC stuff these days, mind ("Do you know what morale is?" - "Yes ma'am, it's something what the wops ain't got."). Cross of Iron, it's the Eastern Front, James Coburn is Corporal Steiner, a battle-hardened soldier leading a platoon versus approximately a million Russians each. To top it off, his new aristocratic commanding officer takes a serious dislike to him and tries to have him killed. Charming. Lots of slo-mo violence cause it's Peckinpah directing, and it's great. An Ungentlemanly Act, when the Argies tried to nick the Falkland Islands (oh those sneaky South Americans!). Bit of a bugger to find, but good. Quite balanced, actually, and not biased towards the British. Should have won an Oscar for Best Response To A Request For Surrender.
January 20, 200818 yr Well, I went to see "I am Legend" the other day, haven't read the book yet but the movie was really nicely done, quite enjoyable though I wish they didn't use CGI "vampires", they looked awful and completely out of place, but I can (mostly) get past that... I'm looking forward to seeing "Jumpers", seemed very interesting, almost a superheroes movie. For an action-packed, mindless, movie, I'm looking forward to seeing the Hitman movie not much they can screw up the character there... Has anyone else watched the trailer of X-Men 4? I never thought they'd release another one after X-Men 3, which, to be honest, I thouhgt was not very good. On the good side, Gambit makes an appearance on this one
