Tactical notes

If you look carefully at a gobber, you can see that it is made up out of jelly like tissue and the nucleus is a mummified human body. A gobber’s tissue is vulnerable to acid, so it uses the human body to produce the acid which is probably a highly concentrated form of human stomach acid. The human skull is used to aim the acid at a target.

Gobber acid is more powerful than that of the other acid throwing transgenants in the game, but fortunately it has a relatively low range.

Gobbers are only a serious threat early in the game when your soldiers are inexperienced and poorly equipped. At this stage, you should be very careful of engaging in an open firefight with a gobber because its acid can do a lot of harm to your soldiers. If it gets close enough to fire at your soldiers, you should get them to retreat and then fire at it again when you have made more space. Fortunately, grenades work quite well against a gobber.

Gobbers are less of a threat as the game progresses. Equip at least one of your soldiers with a hybrid plasma rifle when they become available as they are highly effective against gobbers.

It is possible to take a gobber alive, although they are too big to carry. A gobber will become unconscious when its health reaches 400 hit points or below, 27% of the starting total.
