Stupid vault was empty, I'm looking over the raiders camp :)

surely you meant to say "I'm picking over the raider's corpses for .44 ammo and bottlecaps"

:)

BIG SPOILER INCOMING.... LOOK AWAY IF YOU DONT WANT TO GET A FREE NPC!

Don't ever take Tandi back to shady sands! give that chick a good knife and some stimpacks and she'll be your little stabbing lover forever. The second you return her to shady sands after rescuing her, she's lost to you as a party member.

Somehow I missed this, but that's jolly good background info. Thanks for that.

I never noticed the two triggers!

On a less related note, I decided to pick up BOS for the PS2. I'm not sure what it is, but this whole Brotherhood of Steel spinoff from the Fallout series doesn't seem to click so well with me. Something about the atmosphere.

Yeah, I didn't notice the triggers either.

You picked up BoS? As in the action RPG? I heard it's horrible. Or are you reffering to Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel?

BOS the top-down view action game. It seems to start off terribly and it hasn't interested me enough to want to play it any further to see if it gets any better. I hope I'm proven wrong - but at least I paid for it at the bargain bin price.

Hmm. Obsidian Alien(s) RPG? Could be interesting...

NO! I want to get up close and personal with Aliens!!! :D

I played SW:Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 but these dice rolls all the time started to bore me... I liked both games anyway but Oblivion really showed how much more personal RPGs can be. I know it's a matter of choice and a completely different aproach but I'd like a new AvP with some RPG additions much more than the simple count of rolls. It would just feel odd if an Alien jumped at you and had a 50% chance of hurting you while it's clearly upon your head... :)

Giving this game another go, since last time I had to drop it and the savegame was eventually lost...

How do I get dogmeat? I'm at Junktown, I've helped the local police force to kill Gizmo and plan to go hunt the Skulz somehow later. Dogmeat is in front of a building, and a woman and a man seem afraid of it but won't talk to me, neither will the dog (surprisingly! :D)

You need the leather jacket. Remember Mad Max and his dog? :D

There should be a "We love Dogmeat!" fan club.

He likes Iguana's on a Stick I seem to remember... :)

I'll keep an eye for them, can they be obtained in Junktown?

Leather Jacket? really? I have one but currently wearing an armor (leather armor, IIRC?)

Are there any clues on how to get it? I haven't seen anyone mention anything about Dogmeat ingame, only the two NPCs that don't even talk to me, they just say "Shoot him" or something like that.

On another topic, is it possible to arm / change inventory of my NPC companions? I have Ian on my team for now and I would like to give him some of my spare armor and ammo.

Loving this game :D When I play FO2 I'll be sure to try the unofficial expansion Slaughter mentioned, it looks nice.

...

For being a nerd, you're not very good at searching... :D

7. Find Phil and the troublesome dog in the same area of town as the casino;

if you walk up the dog with a leather jacket on, he'll think you're his owner

and come with you. If you don't have a leather jacket, give the dog a piece of

meat (you can find one in the casino), and he'll come with you. Your new

friend is Dogmeat, one of the most popular NPCs and allies in Fallout. He

won't last through the whole game, but you'll greatly enjoy the memories you'll

share.

Ohhh, I didn't know about the meat. I got him pretty far as I recall, not sure if I got him through the entire game.

As for other NPCs you don't have much control over them, certainly less than in Fallout 2, which coupled with the not-so-good AI was not a good design decision. I haven't played the game in a while, but it should be done through the dialog/barter. Oh and, if I remember correctly, you don't need to meet the prices of your followers, you can just sort of take things.

Basically put on the leather jacket (you should be able to get one in the area, if not earlier), give Dogmeat some jerky, and he'll be your friend for life. And what a friend he is!

I actually found the NPC AI in Fallout 1 a lot easier to work with than the ones in Fallout 2. Fallout 2's NPC followers was better implemented overall though - except when they turn on you due to a stray shot. Pity the first Fallout's NPCs aren't as much fun as Fallout 2's, like Sulik. Yes, dogmeat's a classic, but Sulik...er... has a bone through his nose!

You can arm or disarm NPCs by bartering or using the steal interface (make it a habit to use steal to peek into the pockets on neutrals before going ballistic on them, if possible).

Bartering operates the same way with other characters, and requires money. Odd, but that's just how it was implemented. Stealing's the easiest, and failures do not make the NPC turn against you (and hence, you can get that $100 back from Ian if you convinced him to join your cause with money rather than your striking charm and personality. :D ). No experience from the attempts.

Tell Ian to put away his weapon through dialogue. Then either barter or use steal to add or remove items from his inventory. When you next tell him to arm his weapon, he'll pull out the next best weapon in his arsenal (if there's a choice).
