Want to win a copy of the new XCOM Enemy Unknown? Yeeesssss!? Then make us an XCOM wallpaper. The creative minds behind the best three entries shall be abduct... er, shall receive a brand spanking new physical copy of Firaxis' upcoming game (just imagine that shrink-wrap!).
The maker of the very best entry will also be getting something special in addition to the game, but we're not telling what just yet!
The rules are simple:
- entries will be accepted until October 3rd
- only one wallpaper per entrant, sized 1920 by 1080 pixels
- the theme is, obviously, the new XCOM
- we're looking for something made by you, so don't send us outright screen captures
- writing something like a tag-line or a clever caption to spruce up the wallpaper is optional, but may earn you some extra brownie points if it reinforces and/or has some interplay with the art
To enter, send your creation along with your name and email address to competitions@strategycore.co.uk
We'll notify the winners on October 4th as soon as we've gone through all the entries, which should still give folks time to pre-order if you don't win.
For those about to participate: we salute you!

Evan's entry is a painting of a Muton, but more sensibly wearing armour and not the usual jumpsuit (I think I'm correct in assuming that it's based on the Muton from the original as his site features this image in the gallery too):
Sunflash's entry proves that the more things change...:
And naturally the forum software shrinks them down to a max width that's no good, so they're both available in the attached zip file too.
Sorry guys, we're at their mercy on this one
To be brutally honest we wanted to see some effort (as the rules stated) and many entries were simply screenshots with the logo on top. Competition rules in future will therefore be much longer and more boring to read to cover all eventualities, but it seems necessary unfortunately
On the bright side future competitions will likely be broader in scope to allow for people to enter things like fan fiction, mods and so forth and will give more time than we gave on this occasion.
I MEAN UH YES I HAVE A NEW POST IN THE WORKS ACTUALLY. WATCH THIS!
::
Now do your sworn duty and kick major alien butt!
These will be uploaded over the next day or so once we've sorted out the important details like arranging for prizes to be sent out (Evan gets an XCOM notebook and pen, an XCOM t-shirt and an XCOM badge in addition to the boxed copy of the game in case you're wondering what you missed out on).
We are planning to run other competitions after the game has launched, so don't be disheartened if you're not a skilled artist/image manipulator
