systems
In the early game I just used half UZIs, half shotguns. In the "Area 51" part I used 5 G3 rifles and 2 RPGs. Now (~15 bases) I just use 5 laser rifles and 2 sniper rifles (I am about a day away from plasma weapons).

Edge
I have to admit... I started off using all alien tech until "The Shift" (you know, when the game went from being a stroll in the park to being incredibly difficult). Then, I went back to the earth-based tech. Using the Steyr Aug and the HK G11 coupled with the heavy armor (slow, but worth every inch of protection), and I am once again invincible. Sure, I miss the high-mobility of the other suits of armor, but there's a lot to be said for devestatingly accurate and effective firepower coupled with very effective armor (that looks cool, btw). Starship troopers, anyone? So far, on the mission I've tested this load-out on, it's worked extremely well (better than I expected, truth be told). I will continue to test this load-out and will report back with my results.
Shaitan
Im not that far either, I got like 20 bases (europe and asia) and my preffered loadout is 1 psg 3 plasma rifles and 3 alian plasmas... Nothing can stand in the way of that!
zowrath
I have the Foldable Machine Gun in my inventory, but I can not move it to any of my soldier's inventory. Any clues?` Z.
systems
You must be wearing heavy armour to use the folding machine gun. I'm not at "the shift" yet, I'm still absolutely slaying anything that moves and have only just met car crabs (how cool are they!). It's good to hear that "real weapons" make a return in the game as I prefer using them (I'm a Rainbow Six fan).
Telkanes
Sweet this Thread is taking off OK Whats Everyones Thoughts on the: Since peeps ive talked to use these 3 as "std" Rifles early on FN-FAL (Universal dmg)G3 Rifle (Universal damage)G36 Rifle (Hard Damage) <--- is this one that better with its higher ROF? -Telk
Warmann
In my opinion best combination for ANY mission is 2 sinper rifles, 1 shotgun, 1 plasma rifle, a handgun for medic and RPG for rocketeer. I'm in mid game now and I'm having no trouble in killing aliens.

Altho I had 3 snipers, 3 assault rifles and one heavy weaps dood conf for a very long time.
bulldogc
i find rockets mostly useless. they dont touch the blue shield guys atall(practicly) and by the time they fire and the rocket gets there snipers have already killed the aliens. Basilisk
Gatling cannons all the way. These beauties have saved my butt from being roasted SOOO many times. Range that is on a par with a sniper rifle, and a burst that will kill virtually ANYTHING in any armour in a single shot (so long as your guy has a damnably high marksmanship ability)... I LOVE this gun. OK, so you have to wear heavy armour, it weighs a ton and your troops move like their walking through very thick treacle but... I tend to find that the sniper rifles are good, but not as good as this weapon. Sniper rifles take too long to kill aliens when your going against bases/ufo's, where the corridors are narrow, with lots of twists and turns. You tend to find the little swines are already within their weapons range by the time you spot them, and I don't care what type of armour your wearing, in the later stages, you'll be taken apart before you kill one of them... at least, that's what I've found.
