  1. Don't worry. Plot bases are never destroyed by biomass.
  2. You get the same movie you get as when you are wiped out, a mass of biomass spreading across the earth crackling with electricity. And then it ends.
  3. Machine guns/gatlings/railguns and similar cannot be placed in the backpack. They must be placed in a character's hands. Normally walking around they will carry the weapon slung onto their back. They have to unfold it to use it.

    They do get XP for spotting enemies... maybe that was what got him the XP.
  5. 1. Changing inventory stuff does not happen instantly, it joins the queue of actions for that character. Some real time need to pass for stuff to be changed. 2. You can turn off speech entirely using the config programme, I don't think there's a way to change individual sections of speech. 3. Walk speed is slow, particularly for slow characters. Build up the speed skill or turn onto the maximum speed settings to speed things up. That or run. 4. All missions you don't accept are delegated after a while, a crappy team of CeO troops takes the mission instead, they are all right to start with but later in the game they get slaughtered.
  6. How the heck do you beat this mission, I can't even get inside! I've tried several times, once with heavy armour/ super heavy weapons and several times with bio-armour and lighter weapons. The numbers of reticulans means that I lose every time though. Has anyone beat this mission? If you have could you give me some tips.

    Bug Report

    I've seen this, it is a bug because I did it after my guy was definatley dead.
  8. I tried it again, it didn't work this time. How odd.
  9. The aliens do not in fact compensate for gravity, they can't as is said in one of the research descriptions. Thats why they move so slowly, they are physically weak when on Earth.
  10. The patch, annoyingly, does not fix this bug.

  13. I was playing a base defence mission when I noticed a useful bug. One of my men went down to the aliens. After this scuffle I noticed I could still heal him even though he was very definatley dead (ie. portrait gone). He got up again, but his portrait was still gone, I could give him commands but not access his inventory etc. When I saved and loaded though he was back to normal. Seems a good if cheaty way of saving your favourite troops.
  14. For me the biomass has spread all over Europe, Africa and half of Asia. I still don't have the damn node because I can't beat blue reticulans in a city landcape. They come from around the corner and wipe me out quickly with their damn launchers and microslug accelerators.
  15. Foldable Machine Gun: Kick ass, but takes a while to set up Foldable Rail Gun: The same as above but takes less time and does less damage
  16. Are the Reticulan recruits actually good for anything? Their skills are alright but they can only use alien weapons and can't wear armour. Do they have some sort of hidden advantage I'm not spotting.
  17. 3 Snipers 4 Assualt rifle guys 1 Heavy weapons trooper Put all of your squad in Sun armour, do not use Heavy armour. Give everyone plenty of Medkits Begin by skirmishing. Send your fastest 4 guys up to the road to take out the Sky armour reticulans. Run away every time they launch a missile. Retreat to the start point then go to the westernmost point of the wall. Heal up then use a grenade or the Heavy to take down the wall. Stand back and slightly to the east, so that you only have to fight one alien at a time. Keep firing and dodging. Creating a cloud of flame with Incendiaries also works quite well. Once they stop coming head through the breach and into the base.
  18. Rescuables DO join your team, until the end of the mission anyway, once you get back to base they should leave (except in some special circumstances). Don't give them armor.

    Starting Tips

    1. Snipers are really useful 2. By the middle of the game make sure you bring along the folding railgun 3. Do a spot of min/maxing (ie. cheat) and restart until you get start characters with good abilities. 4. Try to keep your troops alive, never use them as cannon fodder.
  20. They seem to be weak against conventional weapons so if you're using plasma or laser switch to assualt rifles, you'll be able to take them down fast enough to stop them getting in a second shot, but unfortunately the first is devastating enough. I'm having trouble with these missions too but switching to basic weapons helps.
  21. I'm having trouble 'cause despite my high stealth ratings they always see my troops and fire first.

    I believe Alpha Centauri was published by Electronic Arts, love that game.
  24. Welcome! Any mod is a great addition to the game, maybe someday I can learn to do one. The only thing that really bothers me about TFTD is the music, it kind of grates on you.
