How games change your life presentation.

:: Video - Eurogamer's Ian Higton wonders: Does anyone really want long games anymore?

For me, the games have definitely gotten too long. There are rare exceptions where I do gather the will to just play the game, regardless of ever reaching the end (Elite) but where ending is a goal, I can't play a hundred hours any more.

For some reason, games where I can spend half an hour or an hour of play to reach the end of the playthrough are far more fun to me. If there is a god of any kind, I will be judged HARSHLY for wasting insane ammounts of time that could be spent on saving humanity or whatever noble cause on games like Nuclear Throne...

@SV: you should probably consider games kind of warped us a little because... how realistic is it to think you could possibly save humanity?

A psychiatrist might well surmise someone here is at risk of developing a god complex.

I do have to agree with you that for people in our general age group real-life demands mostly mean seeking more manageable game lenghts. Or at least games you can easily drop and hop back into with a minimal learning curve.

This could well partly explain the appeal and growth of the so-called "roguelites", which afford you relatively bite-sized runs and still grant you some form of rewarding permanent progression over time.

I intend to get STALKER 2 at some point (like the point of 75), but there is absolutely no rush... I'm afraid my comp wouldn't do justice to any well designed game right now, though STALKER 2 has some development to go through before I really want to pick it up, too.

Shit, can't really get it into my head that it has almost been 10 years since I bought this comp. Almost time for a new one.

@SV: it's right about that time a computer starts to become a paperweight. So, do start stoking them fires or you'll let the inertia of what's past outweigh what's best. Though, there's a price, as Ursula K. Le Guin once wrote: "The hunger of dragons is slow to wake, but hard to sate."

Well, she was the first woman to win both the Hugo and Nebula awards for her books. That should tell you enough about how brilliant she was, also in her sci-fi work. If you feel like sampling - try The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia.
