  1. From my understanding, aliens don't abduct from countries with satellite cover, so cover a continent and you're fine in regards to that continent.
  2. I'm all for multiplayer. Mouse_Nightshirt is my userID.
  3. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/arc...bat-part-1.aspx Walkthrough through a tactical mission. *drool* And Pete - can't say I've had that problem myself.
  4. New GameInformer interview, quite a long one, seems relatively informative. An as the guy points out, the moon has been very lovingly rendered. Are we going there?
  5. There is now a proper fix for this problem - see top of OP
  6. 'Lo guys and gals. Going through one of my yearly X-Com phases again. Have a question. On the PSX version, if an enemy unit was under mind control at the end of your turn when you had killed all other hostiles, the mission would end and the alien would be captured (very handy way to capture commanders and the like). However I've noticed on the PC version it doesn't do this. I wondered if anyone had a "fix" for that one?
  7. Having read the posts thus far, I'll throw my tuppence in. This game looks great. This game does not look like X-Com. For point 2 alone, this game scares me greatly. I want to remember X-Com for the epic battles, classic strategy, fantastic storyline that became a huge part of my childhood and beyond. I don't want this to be upset by what clearly is a different game. This game may be fantastic, but I want to play X-Com, not something that's pinched the name and slapped it on a completely "alien" series (excuse the pun). I'm just very wary that this game will severely disappoint me purely on an expectation front. The game may be brilliant, but that's not what I'm after.
  8. Hrmmm. Video puts me off slightly, but that preview is making me think UFO Defense base management with FPS rather than TB battles. If that was the case, I think we may be onto something. Hopefully if Marin pulls this off, we can get back to classic 1999 action at some point!
  9. Glee mixed with major trepidation. I have no doubt that the game will be good. I have major doubts that the game will be X-COM. And hello again folks, always nice to pop the head in from time to time
  10. Oh dear sweet lord, I could run a lap around Newcastle. Words cannot DESCRIBE how amazed and excited and fantasmical I feel right now to hear this. All I can say is: SCOOOOORRRRRREEEE!!! :) :)
  11. TBH, I agree with every game that's on that list. I guess a lot of us would be biased as obviously we have a soft spot for strategy, but the non-strategy games are classic games on the PC and did a lot to majorly advance their genre. DK2 was a classic due to its humour, but as a game in itself, I wouldn't peg it as an "all-time great"
  12. Just popping in again - the rumours are still spinning. The Escapist (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/89110-BioShock-Dev-Working-On-A-Multiplayer-FPS) comments on the new job offers from 2K Boston possibly being linked to a new X-Com title. If this was the case, it's going in a FPS direction with MMO elements They don't seem so sure and nor am I, but the rumour continues to do the round. Commenters at destructoid (http://www.destructoid.com/bioshock-team-looking-for-multiplayer-talent-120190.phtml) seem to mention X-Com too.
  13. Just popped in to say hi again... aaaaand that this rumour has been popping up a bit more frequently recently - people who have no idea what X-Com is but know I love it have even been mentioning it to me. My New Year's Resolution is to actually have some real hope that an X-Com sequel is presenting itself at some point!
  14. Just the excuse I need to buy all the X-Com games... AGAIN! What, that makes the 5th time I've paid for them, but hell, it's worth it! I've also noted its so much easier with Steam than faffing around trying to get the mouse to work right and dosbox and vdmsound to all work together, plus I can get it on my laptop remotely. Ping! Oh, and hello again and Happy New Year btw.
  15. And then I use the wrong account, silly me. But, still, BOO!
  16. Just to note, the PSX EU is reasonably cheap off eBay, but TFTD cost me an absolute bomb a few years back (£30 IIRC), plus its poo in comparison.
  17. Resurrection again: I'm having the same bother and nothing I do seems to work. Midi sounds work fine in Windows, but not ingame. I've tried all 4 midi devices I have, and only one allows midis to be played in Windows. I'm a bit lost here. I've tried everything above. Any further ideas?
  18. Aha! Some more got put up within a few hours of the first one ending, much cheaper, so if anyone else is looking, maybe now is the time!
  19. Damn, I wish I'd found this thread earlier to tell you important news. I heard off the grapevine that EU and TFTD were removed as fileplanet were "asked to remove aforementioned files by the copyright holder". WHat this indicates is too drool inducing to imagine.
  20. KK, cheers everyone, have an auctionsnipe sitting and ready.
  21. And just checking that this is the version that (supposedly) works on XP at normalish speed with some minor tweaking?
  22. Found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC-GAME-X-COM-COLLEC...1QQcmdZViewItem Is that the Collectors Edition or is that just a collection of them?
  23. Oyez folks! I'm getting a tad annoyed with my very old DOS version of TFTD, so I thought I should try and invest in the CE edition. However, a search of amazon and eBay yeilds no results. Does anyone know where I can buy a copy of the Collector's Edition these days?
