Roadwar Utility 0.93

Description

Well, after figuring out values a while, I put this little utility together, which hopefully manages to improve ground vehicles somewhat.

(Not compatible with the Steam version of the game).

Let's see what it does:

  • Do you wish to restore the backup?


    If ufo2p.bak is detected it will ask this question, for those too lazy to do it themselves. Ufo2p.bak is created automatically in the ufoexe folder if it doesn't exist already, make sure you have an unaltered version so it can create a proper backup.
    It will also create a backup of CITYMAP.DAT, called CITYMAP.bak in the ufodata folder, if you want to restore this one you'll have to do it manually though.

  • Do you wish to make roads invulnerable?


    Note: unexpected side-effects possible! This alters CITYMAP.DAT to make road tiles invulnerable, THE roadfix. It also makes the building entrance tile invulnerable (the one that goes down, like the CoS temples) in case your road vehicle is clever enough to fire while inside, it won't cause the building to collapse on it anymore. Note that 'straight' entrances are not, such as those from warehouses/large flyer factories/... Highway pillars can still collapse, causing the road to go down with it, so it's still a bit dangerous up there.

  • Do you wish to alter the price of the stormdog?


    Even with invulnerable road tiles, the stormdog is still pretty useless compared to the hoverbike, for example, which is actually cheaper too. Best I could think of to fix this is to reduce the price of the stormdog, 3000 should be ok.
    Note: no effect in savedgames

  • Do you wish to reduce air vehicle availability?


    Alters weekly minimum and maximum stock increase of the phoenix hovercar, hoverbike, valkyrie interceptor and hawk air warrior by the percentage entered.
    Note: no effect in savedgames

  • Do you wish to make airborne engines use E-115?


    Nothing too serious, but it makes maintaining air vehicles just that bit more expensive.

  • Do you wish to reduce the size of the Hoverbike weapon slot?


    Gives the hoverbike a 2x1 instead of a 3x1 weapon slot, disallowing it from mounting the lineage plasma cannon.

  • Do you wish to fix various image errors?


    This fixes the bio-trans and cargo module, and the rumble and plasma cannon, which got their images swapped.

  • Do you wish to enable small ground machineguns?


    Allows ground vehicles to mount the 40mm Autocannon&Rendor plasma gun while giving the Tank and blazer turbo bike an extra 2x1 weapon slot. Note that the blazer doen't start with a weapon as you can't set the speed to it's highest if there's an armed enemy vehicle around, which would be quite annoying if a lot of organisations don't like you smile.gif . Also note that the blazer's 'Rules of Engagement' setting start out at 'Evasive', so it won't shoot. Set it to something higher to get it to fire it's weapon.

  • Do you wish to have a road vehicle only missile defense weapon?


    Note: replaces the laser defense array
    Makes the laser defense array a ground only weapon, while improving it's stats too (mainly the range). Trying to turn a road vehicle into a support unit for your air fleet, taking down the missiles while the aircraft take down the UFOs.

  • Do you wish to use an alternate GLM array?


    GLM changes into a rapid fire missile system, changed stats :
    damage : 26 -> 20
    accuracy : 76% -> 45%
    fire rate : 1.5 -> 6 rounds/sec
    turn rate : 12 -> 0
    range : unchanged
    ammo : unchanged
    As you can see it no longer tracks targets, instead it fires an unguided rocket that disappears rather fast and then splits in four (as far as I can count) prophet missiles (think disruptor multi-bomb). Massive destruction guaranteed, though not necessarily to UFOs.

  • Do you wish to give the rumble cannon a 360 degrees firing arc?


    Makes it a lot better, since ground vehicles can only turn around at an intersection (unless in manual control).

  • Do you wish to allow ground vehicles to mount alien weapons?


    Perhaps an interesting alternative to replacing an existing weapon, this allows ground vehicles to mount disruptor beams and bombs. Note that only the tank can carry larger weapons (up to the heavy disruptor), other vehicles are limited to the light disruptor, which you'll find to be quite inferior to the standard ground weapons. Another drawback is the limited firing arc.

  • Replace following weapon with a disruptor AA turret :

    Replaces the weapon of your choice with a new disruptor based ground weapon, stats currently are :

    fire rate : 1.89 r/s

    available after 8 weeks

    NOTE : any vehicle that had that weapon you replaced in a savedgame will get the disruptor weapon instead, not recommended, unless you already are far in the game. Also the availability&cost of the weapon will remain the same in savedgames.

  • Do you wish to enable R&D of the Disruptor AA Turret?


    Note: answering yes will prevent R&D of the (unused) Dimension Destabiliser!
    This will allow you to research and manufacture the Disruptor AA Turret.
    Research topic (should be) available after researching the medium disruptor.

  • Do you wish to increase the range of all ground weapons?


    This will set the CURRENT range of ground weapons at the percentage you entered. Current range not original range (to ensure compatibility with the disruptor ground weapon when enabled). As of version 0.92 this also alters the projectile lifetime accordingly.

  • Do you wish to increase the speed of all ground projectiles?


    This will set the CURRENT speed of ground projectiles at the percentage you entered. Current speed not original speed (to ensure compatibility with the disruptor ground weapon when enabled).

  • Do you wish to improve road engine speeds?


    This will set the ORIGINAL speed of ground engines at the percentage you entered. Original speed not current speed. Doesn't fix their horrible pathfinding though, the only good use of road vehicles is still to put them in buildings near dimension gates.

Simply extract to your main xcom folder. Note that answering no to a question will not revert values back to normal, if you want to undo a change, you will have to restore a backup.
