Space Voyager
Former Liir HW is OURS! Additional size 10 colony never hurt anyone.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-68.jpg Liir field disruptor cruisers - their disruptor shield stops all our energy weaponry. Nice try but too late and the AI is not really capable of holding a line. We go for enveloping action and they falter.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-59.jpg To reduce the number of pics the results of two battles are joined.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-61.jpg Liir were severely beaten at Soror, they lost 19 ships and we lost 3. The colony is not destroyed but a one turn surprise jump to Hiver lightly defended world is a temptation I can not resist. So we jumped, caught Hivers with their pants down BUT I didn't manage to really do the best I could so our losses were much higher than needed or expected. Also the fact that Hivers have heavy planetarymissiles and fusion warheads didn't help much. Most of those came through our point defence and when it strikes, it STRIKES. The gate did go down so we can call the mission at least partlysuccessful but the truth is that we have a bunch of crippled ships stranded there, unable to be repairedor refuelled... There is a rescue operation in the works naturally, I hope it arrives on time. Since we already got to the other side of the rift at Tarka HW, we might as well drill a nodeline and take it!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-44.jpg Aaaahhh, a lot of additional armour for our ships. All warship designs are updated. Next research goes into informational direction, having those is always good. Soon we'll go for dreadnoughts. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0008-40.jpg A design I'm toying with... Zuul assault section has assault shuttle mounted so these ships would be pretty effective against colonies as well, but my heart tells me we should gather slaves rather thankill off population... Most likely it will not see production.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0011-33.jpg Interesting...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0019-21.jpg So, Tarka HW is a non-developed colony, far from size 10?! It seems as though Tarka have seen heavy fighting on this side of the rift as well, and recently! This explains why they did not put up more of a fight. I'd be surprised if this was not the work of the Humans. Though our feathery slavesare still out there somewhere. Well, they are not yet slaves technically speaking. Technically.  We see more of the other side.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0020-14.jpg

Guess what we did!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0008-41.jpg We find what was formerly a Tarka HW. Space Voyager
They must have lost their HW recently. Doesn't losing HW inflicts heavy morale loss on the whole empire? It does, but if it wasn't very recent, it has no effect any more. If it was VERY recent, there would most likely be some infra left. Not necessary, though, but since we arrived to this side there was no obvious fighting visible.

Space Voyager
Research update. I tried to do as Veki has done and track Human nodelines. No go, not this time - there is no link for Human node line tracking... So I went for some older techs than may yet prove useful. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-62.jpg Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh, always good to see Armada CnC.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-54.jpg We leave some of the old nodelines to falter. We use skeleton lines and those for mining.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-51.jpg Interesting. Space Voyager
Our first station is built! The only appropriate place was our HW.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-70.jpg A new special project started.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-63.jpg This... is painful. I'm trying to film a battle but damn flickering destroys 99 percent of the movies. Even overviews are a pain as they need like five to six tries. Well, this battle was really nice... It has boarding, it has slave runs, it has grappling missiles and it has a lot of Human ships exploding. So DAMN. If anyone has a good alternative to X-Fire for video capture, do tell.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-52.jpg Humans went for AM before dreadnoughts as well. That was our colony.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-37.jpg Ok, I'll try to film this battle as well. If I can ensure that it is the only one, I'm prepared to repeat it a few times if need be. I put a rend drive ship into the fleet for two reasons; the fleet is slower so Liir have more time to bring as many ships to the shooting as possible and I hope to film the node cannon in action.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0013-23.jpg
Space Voyager
Thanks to Veki I was finally able to record this battle. As I kinda lost hope a week or two back I needed to load the game from an older save to record it. But it would be a bit pointless to show you a battle that did not really happen in the game you were reading AAR from - so we'll continue from here!  So, we gave Liir plenty of time to gather their forces in defence of their HW. This was done by going in from pretty far away - and by adding a rend bore ship to the fleet so that the fleet travels slower. Also I wanted them to know what is coming as they are hardly reacting to my jammed fleets, so jammer/deep scan "Pitch Black" destroyers were sent a turn later, to arrive at the same time as the main fleet. We definitely need them as Liir researched cloaking... I haven't seen advanced cloaking but nevertheless I want eyes in the battle. Recording the battle was not at all the only reason to gather Liir. I want to crush most of their forces in one go instead of fighting large fleets at all their colonies. Perhaps a quick clarification on why I think going for dreadnoughts early is by far a better course of action than antimatter (when you are fighting AI, this must be said). Beside the fact that one can not destroy a single section on a DN, naturally. The main reason is Armada CnC. No matter how well Liir antimatter ships are equipped, they can not match the firepower brought in by vastly higher command and control capability.Fighting a human player CAN be a lot different though. Getting AM first would give you a huge speed and range bonus. Using these bonuses with small cruiser fleets ravaging through enemy territory will quickly bring an empire to its knees. AI is not really best at using these advantages so one has no need to chase them all through the map. There are examples that prove otherwise but too rare to care. Should Liir send the forces that you will see defending their current HW at several targets and keep them on the move as well I'd have a hard time to compensate and catch them all across the map.As there is not a lot of concern about Liir using such advanced strategy, we can use the extra CnC to bring a lot of ships into big fights and win purely with numbers. The filmed battle shows this principle in action. At the beginning you can see a node cannon in action, obliterating most of Liir first wave, than there are grappling missiles, boarding and slave runs. Those were not as successful as I'd want as all three slave discs were destroyed but still, they killed off 150 million population by themselves. We'll fill'em up with fish later.
Veki
Just one complaint : it's too short!!! Â Nice video and nice battle. I noticed that you didn't bring reinforcements near the end of battle. You had a DN first on the reinforcements list so it couldn't jump in because you had too many cruisers in the battle. On purpose to make things more interesting or you didn't notice?
Space Voyager
On purpose to make things more interesting or you didn't notice?Didn't notice. Making a movie and trying to show the most interesting details does have its drawbacks as well, he he he! Space Voyager
The fighting didn't stop there though. Battle at Braal rages for four turns, the last is just a satellite clean-up. First turn (recorded battle) leaves us with 16 destroyed ships, all destroyers. Battles look much less fun without them zooming around. At the end of second turn Liir run out of CnC ships so there was no resistance left to speak of. So... why did we lose a ship in the third turn? And a dreadnought at that?! Somehow it caught too much speed and rammed the planet. Liir inhabitants got fireworks and we lost our first dread. If you thought New Year's eve fireworks was expensive, think again. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/head_wall.gifhttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-62.jpg Weapon damage summary from the captured battle:https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-55.jpg Fusion cannons and heavy fusion cannons take the lead, but if I'm not mistaken, those are thumpers in the second place with a large damage count - a heavy driver with anti-gravity generator that pushes everything everything away from the blast. A blast or two behind our DN's arse could easily account for the excessive speed and ramming.  Our first sensor station is built. At a colony that is know to be an entry point of a Human nodeline. We hope we'll see them coming sooner this way. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-40.jpg Ah, Liir weren't as foolish as it seemed!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0016-21.jpg They took a large force and went for an attack instead of futile defence. But we are given nothing in the weapon tree we climbed so high. No anti matter cannons or heavy cannons. Perhaps it was time to go somewhere else, for candysake if nothing else. Plus you lost DN on 3rd battle, not on first.Hmmmm, could be. I'd expect node cannon to have a red circle though, but since none of the pics looks like hwat a node cannon should, that COULD be it. Well damn, even worse for the fish. That was a single blast, he he he!  I did write third turn, not first.  Hope, but I think you're screwed. Probably true. Still worth a try. The DN I'm building is AM so I might be able to give them a merry chase out of range of projectors. It just might be that the Liir fleet is without CnC ships. If that turns out to be true... They are the ones screwed. I wouldn't bet on it though. Do you have AM torpedo? It can lead to AM cannon. What about ballistic weapons?I was thinking to delve into ballistics, yes. But absorbers are available and Humans have a lot of beams, so giving energy weapons another try might be worthwhile. I'll see after node tracking. A blast or two behind our DN's arse could easily account for the excessive speed and ramming. But never mind that. Â Do you have access to heavy beams? Cutting beams are excellent weapons. Maybe use them with absorber section. And if you manage to get quantum capacitors from salvage (doubt that) that would make a killer combo. Space Voyager
The Dreadnought Gambit paid off! Unlucky bastards had all of their CnC ships destroyed so their cruisers trickled in threes, becoming easy picking for our single DN. Naturally, I had to throw the usual guard destroyers to their death before DN appeared on the battlefield, this is why we have 5 destroyed ships in the first turn of the battle.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-72.jpg Contrary to what SOME had me believe, Zuul node tracking did NOT unlock Human node tracking, dammit. So everything is dependant on my memory. We are screwed. But only as far as knowingtheir nodeline layout is concerned, otherwise we're doing quite ok.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-65.jpg We continue with fusion torpedo in hope of unlocking some AM toys. No luck there either... Being too enthusiastic about battles I captured another one. It happened here, https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-42.jpg where Hivers decided they didn't like me taking their colony, gather slaves etc. I don't know why, they are just crazy like that, bugs. Anyway, here's the battle with Hivers.  Our DEs do some nice spinning due to Hiver use of mass drivers, so if you want to see Zuul ships dancing, take a peek. As heavy combat lasers are not available for further research (but I hope we have a special research project with lancers in the works) our research disappointments made me furiously go for heavybeams. To my surprise it didn't stop dead in the tracks immediately after the first one... You can also see the relative research price for these beams - our research capability did not change much from one research to the other, but research times go 1-4-7 turns. Positron beam is not finished yet so Idon't know if that is the end of the line.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-39.jpg I'm always glad to show others' futile attempts as well, so here's one; Hiver traders are fleeing fromour ships. Turn around, bags of money, come back! We come in peace, KA KA KA KAAA KA!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0014-32.jpg Contrary to other AARs, when a species goes extinct in a Zuul AAR, it really is extinct. Even if someremnants live on colonies of our enemies, we'll see that the extinction is final. Only one regret here - it wasn't our doing.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0015-22.jpg Gah, forgot some bugs on this colony.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0020-16.jpg Ah well, we will be able to collect the rest of the inhabitants as slaves. Well, that is it for now. Just a quick video update left. Oh, before I go - Humans did give us a whoopingat one occasion. We lost three dreads. Where and why is explained in the update, but this is the weapon statistics of the battle. Impactors in wrong hands...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0013-25.jpg
Veki
The Dreadnought Gambit paid off!You lucky sob.  Contrary to what SOME had me believe, Zuul node tracking did NOT unlock Human node tracking, dammit.Do you have "Translate English" researched? It's required for "Node Tracking: Human". Contrary to other AARs, when a species goes extinct in a Zuul AAR, it really is extinct. Space Voyager
You lucky sob. Why yes, yes I am!   Do you have "Translate English" researched? It's required for "Node Tracking: Human".Damn? Damn damn? Damn damn damn. Will see to it. Thanks! Morrigi? Who did this? Humans? Most likely. More likely than Tarka. Do they have impactor DN? Or just cruisers? Maybe biuld a few CR with deflectors?Cruisers, still cruisers only. My ships were really battered and when three of the Human cruisers started firing from insane ranges my fusion DNs seemed not to move at all. Mostly because they didn't, he he he! Deflectors are definitely an option and if they show up with impactor DNs it may quickly become the best answer.  Though grapple missile armed AM cruisers could be effective as well, closing in fast and messing with their bearing. Anyway, I am going to wait for enemy dreads before filming more battles.
