Tarka warpath

Recommended Posts

There wasn't much time for playing really but I did find two shots noteworthy...

We are destroying Revenge Fleet's stations!

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-24.jpg

I must admit that while I do like stations I think you need a lot of excess money to build them. Excess as too much. They are hugely expensive and right now I rather build a dread or two instead.

Aiken Drum went bio.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-23.jpg

This is good and bad. Such a DN is easy to destroy as it has little weapon capacity. But should it come close to our colony...

Just a Q; is there any info you feel you really need to understand what is going on better? Like a movie of the map, research tree to give suggestions, whatever?

Yes - why I am dead?! ;)

::

Well, I'm immortal anyway, as you know... :)

So, while I'm in the process of resurrecting I'd say: maybe a view in the context of the larger world-map indicating where the bulk of the action is taking place.

Other than that, SV, I'm very much just looking forward to a combat vid where we get to kick some Aiken Drum b-hind! :)

For the clarity of the situation. Movied the map and gave comments through in-game notes. That seemed like least complicated option.

As you can see, my space is very connected to Morrigi! I never held back from colonizing in their turf nor did they think twice in mine. We both profited from trade.

Now THIS.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-26.jpg

This is... crap.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-25.jpg

We never touched a feather on a Morrigi, dammit. I hoped they would at least stay out of the conflict but it seems as though they are bothered by our empire being the strongest and us fighting their allies. What's to worry?! ;)

We are updating our DN designs with absorbers;

Many thanks for the vid, SV - very nice! :)

Kind of like a christmas tree with exclamation marks as blinking lights ;), but I now definitely have a much clearer picture of the spatial relationship of things.

Since they seem to have asked for it, and now that we have the hardware, we shall have no problem "tarring and feathering" a certain bunch of turncoat birds... :)

Ha, I wouldn't have expected this statement from you, lord of eagles, in a million years, he he he!

We might have the hardware, but we also need the MONEY. And this is exactly the segment that has been hit the most right now. All our trade routes with allies (NAPs...) are ruined and this means a loss of a lot of income. Will report how much that is.

Good, I'm glad you're not offended. :)

We quickly grab a tech that will allow us to let the feathery creatures live.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-23.jpg

They won't feel like at home but they will be alive.

I incidentally deleted the pic that showed our attack vectors against the enemy. Basically we threw all we had in the back against Morrigi colonies in our midst. As the second step we went into quite heavy debt and started production of several warships. Research set to like 10% to cover the debt ASAP, we don't want a rebellion on our hands.

There was a smart plan to title the deleted pic with "he who defends everything defends nothing", a quote by Frederick the Great (Google is awesome). We clean and defend the clusters. But our colonies "abroad" are left to their own fate, except one that is big and has a decent enough production to churn out its own warships. That is where a large chunk of our debt went. Its fleet is currently besieging a big Morrigi colony in its vicinity.

As the Human example has shown even a single dread can wreak havoc on un(der)defended colonies, so we do the same.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-24.jpg

This is how our income shifted from pre-Morrigi-war to current situation.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-24.jpg

Actually I'm not sure what the numbers tell myself... :) Ok, trade went down but what is that "foreign trade" is unclear... Trade from the routes should be considerably bigger so I don't know what that is all about.

Examples of battles going on every turn now... I did film some heated action, will encode the thing later.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-20.jpg

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-22.jpg

And we continue to gather special projects.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0008-22.jpg

We are bound to get some large weapon tech sooner or later.

Updates are somewhat rare and short right now. This is mostly because they would be kinda boring. I'll try to explain the situation later but wars are mostly happening in the same spots, a bit of a stalemate with Aiken Drum. I can handle the rest just fine but when these bastards come into play it gets rough. They have high-end armour (I'm quite certain) and they have upped the ante on heavy combat lasers so our ships ARE being destroyed. And a lot of them have been on other duties like clearing our clusters of Morrigi colonies and are gathering as we speak to form something worthy to be called a fleet.

Thorondor mk2 and Sunflash mk2 designs were mostly used where they were not most efficient. They are newest designs and were built in clusters that needed cleansing of Morrigi - so they didn't have much opposition. Absorbers WANT to be shot at by energy weapons. They take away a lot (checked; 75%!!!!) of the damage done by them and use the energy to power the weapons on their own ship. As you can guess there aren't many energy weapons at Morrigi colonies where they operated most. Mostly missiles. Not that they were seriously hurt but they sacrificed a lot of firepower for absorbers. That would be a good investment in a regular heavy combat lasers ship-ship fight, elsewhere they just meant our DNs took longer to take Morrigi colonies out.

There is practically no research done as our investment into it is close to zilch - we need the money for the quantity. But it is picking up as we speak as, as told, our scattered absorber ships are gathering at Altair for a push into Aiken Drum's turf.

Also our research into Morrigi incorporation may have been in vain. Their ideal climate hazard is out of our survivability range so I am unsure whether we will be able to incorporate them at all unless we go WAY up their Xeno research tree. We will not. At least not yet. Conquest into their territory is not our immediate goal anyway. What we want to do is hunter/killers, remember?! (this was to remind myself, not you) We are still two researches away; advanced DN engineering and advanced drone frames. After we finish armours (to whichever level those will go).

That's it for now.

And an antiartistic try to shed some light on current situation...

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/Copyofscreen0003.jpg

Paint REALLY isn't your picture editing artistic tool of choice. And I'm not your artist of choice either.

1: A try to get a Morrigi independent colony. We'll see about that.

2: This cluster is actually much closer than the one under 4. The 3D nature of the map makes it harder to show it on a pic. Kinda like... REALITY. Stars in a zodiac sign? Not close to one another. They don't know of each other. It is just Human imagination that bonds them together. So much for your daily horoscope. Enough of ruining your day. Cluster under 2 is let to its fate.

3: Clusters under 3 had enough of a production to build their own warship or two. They fight for survival at the expense of Morrigi colonies.

4: Cluster cleaned of Revenge Fleet's presence and populated with some Human population left. Nice addition. Two colonies are well established and are building constantly. Red line signifies the vector of attack, an Aiken Drum colony.

5: Where furious wars we wrote about earlier in the thread happened. And our most important production colony is. Vector of attack from Altair.

A bit cheesy, but less than Sword of the Stars, HE HE HE!

We go for a new push. Our absorber ships are gathered or at least able to arrive on time!

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-27.jpg

Next turn we open the second front as well, we don't want them to jump from one to another with their speedy ships. We hope for a division of their forces.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-24.jpg

Meanwhile our backup fleet, still fusion leftovers (also gathered from like 3 places) are also kept busy.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-23.jpg

We keep pounding Morrigi as well. I'm wondering why they went into war with us, they are pretty pathetic.

Heh, absorber ships... RULE. First battle was filmed but I can't upload to YouTube for some reason, I get an error every time... When I succeed, you'll know.

For a quick description let me just tell that when our ships are being in front of Aiken's heavy beams, normal fusion cannons seem like projectors and our own beams just don't stop...

Three turns of battle at Tasia:

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-12.jpg

This is how our research went in these turns

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0011-15.jpg

And than my heart stopped for a moment.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0016-12.jpg

Nope, these are not flowers a la Tarka, these are impactors. This was a VERY fast Aiken's adaptation to our absorbers!

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0017-10.jpg

Luckily the only impactor DN we've seen so far.

With the destruction of Tasia, Altair can be repopulated.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0021-8.jpg

And yes, my prediction was correct. Crap.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0024-9.jpg

Especially since so far we left quite some Morrigi colonies to go independent. It may just pay out to go Xeno.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0028-5.jpg

Aaaaaaaaand now...

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0027-4.jpg

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0029-3.jpg

AAAaaaaaaahhhhh, that felt GOOOOOOD.

Hunter/killer is a VERY tough cruiser. With current armour and weapon tech I got a normal cruiser to cca 21.000 armour points. H/K has like 28.000. And is hugely quick and agile. Ooooooohhh, we gotta film these.

Life can get back to normal.

More research and results.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-21.jpg

Morrigi suddenly realized that we have colonies behind their back.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0013-10.jpg

I feel somewhat responsible as by now we COULD do something to save them... Eh well...

Revenge Fleet finally builds its first dreads.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0023-12.jpg

They failed miserably, absorbers really spoiled the fun for AI as it loves heavy combat lasers etc.

We do what we can in terms of integrating Morrigi into our society.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0014-14.jpg

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0024-10.jpg

Population manager tells that sorry, no game. Morrigi and Tarka can not coexist.

So their independent colonies are testing ground for our hunter/killers.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0029-4.jpg

Imperial population is killed, deep scan/jammer DEs are placed above their worlds to prevent independence from "breaking out" again. Marked for mining, after that they can do whatever they wish with their 0 resource worlds.

This is how we DO research...

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0025-7.jpg

...and this is how we DON'T.

Jump in, the water's great! :)

Oh, yeah - this is the life... ;)

Mighty good progress, SV. Besides going with the heavy hitter techs I see you've also done your homework on the Orbital Complexes front.

Signs to be soon seen on Aiken impactor DNs: "Out of commission" :)

Aiken Drum is mostly crushed though they have a lot of colonies. Unless they come up with a serious fleet of impactors they can't do squat. The rest haven't been a real opposition for a long time. In fact I can't figure out why they needed so long for DNs - and Morrigi still don't have it.

The game is won, really. I'd be pleasantly surprised if I was proven wrong. But we will test hunter/killers before winning.

Stations... IMO they are too expensive. All of them. Just don't have the effect to go with the price.

As for my thoughts on hunter/killers (so far); I wonder why they have fusion option at all. The research needed for them is so long and expensive that I can't imagine going for them before antimatter. One would have to push long and hard and neglect a lot of "must have" research.

I'll do a vid or two to show them in action, they look cool.

Oh, it's beautiful! :)

Much showmanship, Master SV. Thanks for sharing. ;)

When you say "Target locked" you sure as hay mean business. "Bringing guns to bear" indeed... :)

I can hardly imagine how maginficent such a ship would be if it existed. I'd seriously pay to get onboard. :)

And "Round Draw" my eye - you were owning them bigtime! :)

Thanks both!

was I seeing one ship providing PD cover-fire for a different allied ship?

PD shoots at all enemy guided ordinance (except EMP pulsar torpedo), no matter what its target is. So in SotS you can go for warships with no PD and mix them with PD dedicated ships. This most often happens when you have a lot of ships from pre-PD research. Scrapping them would be a waste so you add PD ships to their groups.

I'd also add some PD heavy ships when the enemy kites ships with torpedoes or missiles. It wouldn't be rational to build new ships and use sections with more small mounts - those are usually fragile and wouldn't stand a chance if the enemy changed tactics.

Updates are a bit further apart, but that means you have more tech descriptions to read. :)

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-26.jpg

ACTUALLY we found out Tarka and Morrigi CAN coexist. But not under our ideal climate hazard, which is why we can't make Morrigi surrender. If we terraform all our colonies to the ideal Human CH, some Morrigi can actually live there. AND Human populations will grow faster.

So we terraform all our colonies except homeworld. That would be blasphemy.

An example of how alien populations grow. Humans have ideal CH, Morrigi are FAR apart as you can see on the CH slider.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-24.jpg

Additionally you see the red bar slowly disappear on our Tarka line. That is because this world was overpopulated before. Now we hope for extra money without the slow depletion of resources.

Our research station told us that our homeworld will be attacked by VN. This time... we will destroy them on purpose. I want to get a Berserker. No real reason, just fun.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0018-9.jpg

And Berserker.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0030-2.jpg

More research.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0023-13.jpg

Ehm, I seem to have let Humans grow bold again. Both.

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0027-5.jpg

When they meet our fleets the result is better. And yields nice pics!

https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0034-1.jpg

Our empire has cut into the known space like a giant wedge.

BTW, if you have problems with size of pictures, press F5 to refresh the page. I don't know why, but somehow I usually get oversized pics when I open the thread.

Anyway, hunter/killers in action!

What you see are one-sectioned TOUGH cruisers, pretty fast and agile. One sectioned is good as the enemy can not destroy a section (like on dreadnoughts), they need to destroy it whole. But they have no special mounts for torpedoes, heavy combat lasers and such.

Also my H/Ks are far from best possible. FAR. I don't have the best medium mounts (ok, phasers are good but not best for H/Ks with their agility and a tendency for wider arcs around their targets) and not even mediocre large mounts. No high end beams, no heavy cannons. I could go up the ballistic tree and check if there is something ripe for picking but it is too late IMO. We need to pour the money into production and overrun the enemy.

"What will happen when those projectiles impact? Watch the next episode, and find out!!" :)

It's always a treat to watch all the different sorts of ordnance being used "live". :)

::

Also, do you evac a planet before employing Terraforming Bacteria? I wouldn't like to be dusted with those things... :)

p.s.: pic duplication detected - sound the alarms! ;) Berserker fight pic appears twice, with the Human scrap becoming a no show as a result.
