UFO Defence poll

Could've sworn I posted a reply to this -- or at least an identical post like this one.

Hmm, let's see, the Chryssalid would be among my least favourite, but the one I like the least (and really wish it was on my side) would be the superhuman sectopod. They are, when you ignore psionics, the most powerful pure combat enemy units in the game. The fact that they follow ethereals is purely secondary.

It's the combination of the really heavy armour and a powerful weapon that makes it a difficult enemy to beat. Their reaction/snap shots are very accurate and often hit their target. Heck, even the mutons are a walk in the park compared to these war machines.

It's also the only superhuman enemy unit that I cannot easily kill with my favourite weapon - the laser pistol. Oh, there's a whole host of powerful weapons that can easily take them out (with the most powerful being one of the least likely of weapons - the small launcher). But that's not the point. Even with these powerful weapons, the sectopods are still tough buggers to deal with - whether or not you came prepared.

On easier difficulty levels, they're not so bad. In fact, on beginner difficulty, I'd go so far as saying that I fear the chryssalids more.

The thread repeats again... soon we'll have to try several times not to get a taken thread name... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/sarcastic.gif

I don't mind the grin metal men, but boy, they can move. So fast my troops often don't have time to fire.

Sectopods are a pain in the rear. The can give AND take big chunks of damage. But I'd have to say the etherals worry me the most.

I don't much care about civilians. If one blocks me, I shoot him for the good of the world... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/sarcastic.gif

As for the funding nations, I gave up on political peeps a long, long time ago... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/sad.gif

Wa, waah? Suddenly it's all gone dark! https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/blink.gif Thought the thread had mysteriously moved to the UFOAftermath forum, it was all white when I replied to it... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/grin.gif Much easier on the eyes. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/bomberhappy.gif

I don;t understand how people can have so much trouble with the walking pair of curtains (Ethereals). Whilst they can be a bit of a headache, terror missions with Chysalids in them are by far the scariest and hardest!

They take over the Civvies like nobody's business and the last time I did a map with them on, there were a good 10+ running about...

...wonder where all the civilians went?! :D

I prefer metal men (can't be bothered speeling chysallids anymore https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/wink.gif) turning civvies into aliens then Etherals turning my own troops into aliens. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/wink.gif

Even when on foot, it's easy enough to stay clear of the metal men.

Seriously, one day I'll make my own version, and it'll let you take a heavy plasma along to those "end of the month" meetings...

All countries are very happy indeed with your progress, so happy in fact that USA has decided to withdraw it's contract with the alien forces and continue X-Com funding.
