Why doesn't patch1.2 install?

I downloaded patch 1.2 and patch 1.3 but neither of them will install,

I get an error message saying that Ufo Aftermath is not installed on this

computer! Well it's definitely installed, I'm logged in as the same

administrator as when I installed the game and haven't changed the

game in any way since. Also I looked in the registry and there is

definitely two keys in 'local computer' called Altar and

Altar interactive. (the first key has the path to the game).

 

Please can someone help. Thanx!

there are alot of problems with installing...the best bet its a one off...reinstaul the game....and than try.....

 

but other than that...people have had faulty CDs..

 

tell me is aftermath working well by it self?

doyou have antivirus?....if so turn it off when installing games and paches

I think it would be best to uninstall the game, make sure the registry items are also gone, and then install again as BlackAlmaz says.

Now I'm gonna reinstall the game as you suggest and try again. I can't

believe it would be a faulty CD as it installed fine and the game runs

perfectly (except that it always crashes out if I use "alt-tab".

 

Will let you know if it works.

I removed the game (completely, including registry entries) and reinstalled

fresh but I get the same dumb error:

 

"Ufo aftermath is not installed on this computer. Please install the game

before you install the patch".

 

I checked the version of the main data file by opening it in a hex editor

and it's version 1.0.

 

Any ideas people??...

I seem to remember ALTAR mentioning something about this a while back. I can't remember at the moment though. I will ask ALTAR monday. In the meantime I suggest you ask at the official boards.

Don't think this will make a difference, but have you tried running the patches from where UFO:AM is installed?

Yeah I tried installing the patches from the hard disk root and also from the

Ufo directory, but no luck.

Could it be that you're not using the right language for the patch? For example the english patch wont install on the german game. Shouldnt at least =)

Actually, I think Sigget may be right. The error you getting is actually generated by the InstallShield and it is related to the way InstallShield (and Windows) store the information about the installed software.

 

You have to look at the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and you will se lot of entries with long numbers. These are GUIDs of your applications. The Aftermath GUID is normally 3699BC50-DA7B-4DA7-BB43-2981C9178FAD (all versions but Polish) so you should check if it is present there.

 

If it is, you should inspect the information contained there and verify if the files being referred there actually exist. If it is not, there is the problem with the installation of the game.

I checked in the registry under the uninstall section and the key in there

does not begin with 3699BC50. However there is a key there for Aftermath

and the two files inside the key do exist at the given location on the hard

disk.

 

I opened the "setup.ini" file but I couldn't tell if it's correct or not. Can you

please tell me what the hex number for the default language should be

in the setup.ini file...?

 

Regarding your comment that my ufo might be the wrong language... well

it's strange if it is 'cos all the text and everything in the game is all in

English so...

Did you restart your computer after installing?

Only on some OS's will a game be listed, without restarting the computer?

 

Every program on a computer always needs to have the computer restarted before the program is recognized.

 

Every program, including all games.

 

Then the game and the computer will be updated with where the game is at, and all of that.

 

Without restarting the computer, the computer will not 'see' the game until the computer is 'restarted'.

YES,THAT'S A PROBLEM I'VE ALSO HAVING INDEED !!!

Which Means i couldn't use COMBO MOD at all!

This problem is with all versions 1.2 and 1.4 !

Game launches witout cd... Also there's almost No Doubt that i'm having a pirat version!

But maybe there's a way to find out what does install progam does? And afterall can I open it with Winrar for example And PATCH The game manually?

Without launching Patch exe... I mean i succesfelly opened and extracted the files inside... BUT!

Have no idea How And where to get those Files!
