November 28, 201213 yr XenonautsGoldhawk Interactive continues to increase readiness for the invasion. Diligently working away at perfecting the X-Com-inspired Xenonauts, the developers report good progress is being made in several fronts with particularly evident results in the imagery department, among others.https://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5536/news-thumbnail_xenonauts_scr01.jpg https://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5536/news-thumbnail_xenonauts_scr02.jpg https://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5536/news-thumbnail_xenonauts_scr03.jpg Here's a little on that: Our full-time tile artist has been working on various props, most notably helping us upgrade the Industrial and Farm tilesets and getting to work on the Xenonaut Base tilesets. (...) and we're close to having all of the starting rooms complete. This will allow us to test base defence missions out properly. Bear in mind that those tiles still have to be painted over in 2D so they're not of finished quality; they're just the guide tiles we use! We're making good progress on the tiles overall, though. The world is starting to look a lot more realistic than it did before! Past that there's a new ground combat UI graphical revamp being implemented, final designs for the strategic UI are being worked on, more serious level and scenario testing has started and previous issues with Desura updates are believed to have been surpassed. But that's not all: it seems the Beta is just around the corner and it should take only a few more weeks before the advanced equipment is handed out to initiate a more efficient cleansing of xenos. Check out the full update notes here.
November 30, 201213 yr I feel more interested by this game than the recently released XCOM, this looks like it captures the feeling of the original much better.
December 1, 201213 yr That is because Xenonauts is a clone while XCOM ain'tProbably rather less a clone than Terror From The Deep was...but a lot more of one than XCOM, for sure.
December 15, 201213 yr Pass - seems to be an intermittent issue I can't track down at present. Obviously it would be very difficult for me to have programmed it to do that at random intervals, so I can't see where in the code the issue is. I don't really have time to look into it further this side of Christmas, but will add it to my list of things that need fixing!
May 31, 201313 yr Author Xenonauts will be making a tactical entry later today, breaching the Steam compound via that plaform's Early Access initiative. So, it's not quite fully finished but, reportedly, still perfectly fit to be enjoyed nonetheless. Here's the official blurb, saying Xenonauts shall: (...) be going on sale later today, but if you have already pre-ordered the game then you are entitled to a Steam key for your purchase. Anyone who had pre-ordered the game prior to this launch will have been sent a Desura key for the game, and the vast majority of you have claimed and activated this key. If you have done so, you can claim your key by following the steps below: 1) Go to https://secure.desura.com/cart/cdkeys2) Log into your Desura account3) Click the "Request Key" button next to Xenonauts4) Load Steam and go to Games > Activate A Product On Steam in the topbar5) Copy the key into Steam The above steps are also viewable in picture form here: https://www.xenonauts.../claimguide.jpg If you have not claimed your key on Desura, then don't worry – we'll send you a key directly in the near future. We’ve got a big list of all your email addresses and are working on a method of getting everyone a key. ::

June 19, 201312 yr I just don't feel the thrill... I tried with UFO: ET when it came out and it was ok, but the time consumption in battles was killing me. This one seems to promise the same and I just don't have the time or the nerves any more.

June 24, 201312 yr Ah here it is! Like Space Voyager I've been playing this a little with the prettying the same conclusion at the moment - it's still pretty unfinished. It is basically X-COM rather than XCOM, with a few curves thrown in. Primarily amongst those is the cover system in tactical combat, which works moderately well. It also has big changes to the air combat model which still need smoothing out a little - a couple of months in and the larger UFOs that Appear start to eat missiles for breakfast, and with no indicator that this is going to happen if you haven't followed the "optimal" research path then you are in big trouble, because your only source of income is shot down UFOs. The game eschews the arms manufacturing / alien cadaver dealing of the original and tightly controllers how you find your empire. While it automatically sells any recovered alien weapons at the end of each mission, human manufactured weapons and equipment never sell for more than they cost to manufacture. Hence you can't just bank roll your way to victory. That's not a problem but the cost of building new bases, weapons and vehicles is prohibitively expensive and needs rebalancing. Also the original base layout is t get clever and several restricts your ability to expand tech and manufacturing capability, none of which helps. All that said though, if they can rebalance it and get some of the slightly wonky design decisions sorted out, there is much to recommend the game. Night terror missions at exactly that - terrifying - and it's very much got its own feel, and the flavour text for research descriptions is very good indeed. The Cold War setting works perfectly too. Personally if you didn't really want what Firaxis did with XCOM then I would suggest this might be much more to your liking, there is a lot going for it. You might want to wait until after its finished though.
September 20, 201312 yr Author https://www.xenonauts.com/wp-content/themes/rockwell/skins/army/gfx/logo.png V19 Stable of the game has been released. Here's word: V19 Stable is basically three months of changes to the game rolled into a single large patch that has had much more testing than our usual updates, and should therefore be fairly stable (though it is still in beta and will not be completely bug-free). This is a brief summary of the improvements made in V19 over V18:• Vastly improved game balance• Dramatically improved AI• Alien Base missions fully functional• All research descriptions written and edited• Various visual updates like a new world map, many more painted ground tiles, etc• Lots and lots of bugfixes :: Check out the latest update and learn of the plans for final release of the game at the official site here.

April 3, 201412 yr Author https://www.xenonauts.com/wp-content/themes/rockwell/skins/army/gfx/logo.png Xenonauts is now well on course for release as per the devs: We have set a completion date for Xenonauts of May 30th 2014, at which point we are going to be locking down the game, sending out review copies and doing the final porting process. Release is likely to be a few weeks after this (giving us chance to do some PR work), but as of 30th May you will be able to play the finished final version of the game on Steam. Desura and Humble Store versions and the Mac / Linux ports will hopefully all have arrived within two weeks of that. :: Read the latest update in its entirety here.
