  1. XCOM: Enemy Unknown Wooooooohoo! It's finally here!! Eighteen years after its predecessor a new XCOM: Enemy Unknown has finally been released to the slavering, pitchfork wielding masses of eagerly awaiting fans. It truly is history in the making for the series and absolutely a day for celebration! http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5413/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_bkgrnd.jpg Of all the possible futures, of all the possible outcomes, we could have hardly asked for more than to get XCOM revived by none other than Sid Meier's strategy gaming powerhouse, Firaxis. But we think it also can and should be said, without any doubt, that, in the end, what really makes or breaks a series are we, its fans, as has been continually evidenced throughout these many years, right here at StrategyCore, by the longstanding, enduring dedication to these great games. We are therefore extremely happy to report this new entry has just been released in the US, and in just a few more days (by October 12th), it shall likewise be unleashed upon the rest of the world. Jake Solomon, if you can hear us: All your game is now belong to us! Thank you! You've heard it here - the invasion has begun! Good luck Commander!!
  2. XCOM: Enemy Unknown Ready to tackle some more invaders in XCOM: Enemy Unknown? Good, because Firaxis is not just content with riding the wave of success of what was, to many, the Strategy Game of the Year in 2012, and have plans to improve the experience in the present and for the future. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5675/news-thumbnail_xcom_enemy_unknown_scnd_wave_bnr.jpg For the present, Second Wave is officially here, and the third patch for the game. PC Gamer has word from Lead Designer Jake Solomon: Here's a list of some of the unlocks Second Wave brings: Looking forward: Obviously, not much is being said of what's to come, but we already know there's more DLC down the pipe. Meanwhile, enjoy the patch and read the rest of what Mr.Jake Solomon had to share with PC Gamer on these two articles (one about Second Wave, and another being an interview regarding DLC and more). The threat level has been raised. So, if you're ready to dive right back in - good luck, Commander!
  3. XCOM: Enemy Unknown This is the clash of the titans. The time has finally come to dot the eyes, cross the tees and marking down the big X at the intersection of X-Com and XCOM with none other than the legendary Julian Gollop and the incredibly popular Jake Solomon! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8zZsecTRfM&feature=player_embedded With or without hyphen involved, the super-duper meeting at this year's GDC shall definitety go down in history, even if, or perhaps precisely because, as evidenced, actually no clashing need apply. Special thanks to Hobbes at our forums for reporting this - as he himself puts it - close "Encounter of the 3rd kind"!
  4. XCOM: Enemy Unknown Is it possible to add extra challenge to XCOM: Enemy Unknown? Firaxis certainly seems intent on doing so and is therefore having us deal with a special content pack that will take us to China, no less. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXjTo1KRDY0 What's inside: This DLC pack is coming out today, so keep a watchful eye on Steam. We also haven't forgotten there's another one supposedly in the works, so we'll absolutely be on the lookout for any more suspicious activities, either human or alien, regarding this subject.
  5. XCOM: Enemy Unknown Soon you'll have more to contend with in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Showing thick-skulled aliens their place is, as we know, often a difficult task to succeed at with any definitiveness, but it's not like we aren't keen on doing it, so to our good fortune Firaxis will shortly have additional assignments for us. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5449/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_upcmng_dlc_bnr.jpg Two new DLC packs are said to be in the pipe: Also reported, and available right now, is the Elite Soldier Pack which can at last be purchased by those who'd like to get their soldiers to look as fashionably attired and well-groomed as ours. Hey, killer looks do count!
  6. 7. XCOM Enemy Unknown All eyes on 2K's XCOM: Enemy Unknown live stream. Today is the day for another special look at Firaxis' upcoming game, direct from PAX Prime, and PC gamers will at long last be able to see the actual version they will be playing, among other things. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5292/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_sid_splash.jpg So, be sure to stay tuned to 2K's channel later on today!
  8. XCOM Enemy Unknown Firaxis is about to strike again with more XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Namely with novel footage of their upcoming game to be aired live and with none other than Lead Designer Jake Solomon doing the honours. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5263/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_lv_strm_bnr.jpg Here's the blurb: The stream will start less than 8 hours from now at 2K's channel and will also have Producer Garth DeAngelis and 2K Greg in attendance, so stay on your toes and don't miss out.
  9. XCOM Enemy Unknown Having an eye in the sky will pay off in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. That much one can easily glean from the latest sneak peek at Joystiq about the game, where our doubts about how UFO interceptions will work are satisfyingly shot down and clarified. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5158/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_intrcpt_bnr.jpg The exclusive piece has producer Garth DeAngelis and lead designer Jake Solomon openly sharing intel about this previously secretive subject. Here's an excerpt: There are plenty of nice details revealed about this aspect of the game and also a handful of related screenshots to better lock on to what is spoken about. Special thanks to ShadowBlade for spotting this one and putting it in our radar.
  10. XCOM Enemy Unknown It's confirmed - XCOM: Enemy Unknown will have multiplayer. We've long wondered if this hugely anticipated game would have that facet built-in, and now Firaxis, by means of Lead Designer Mr. Jake Solomon has come out to say it with all the words, and with details. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5213/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_berserker_meets_sectoid.jpg Here's a snippet from the Eurogamer article where the full disclosure is made: Beyond the juicy details there are also some screenshots there too for extra evidence. Special thanks go to Kret at our forums for being a team player and relaying this intel our way.
  11. XCOM Enemy Unknown Want to know more about a special XCOM: Enemy Unknown DLC pack? Being the top-tier fans that you are you've no doubt heard about it - it's the Elite Soldier Pack - and it comes right in the box for those who pre-order Firaxis' game. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/site/assets/files/5141/news-thumbnail_xcom_eu_elite_soldier_pack_scr.jpg Now, even though it's merely cosmetic in nature, it doesn't mean it's not cool, as the now disclosed high-resolution shot shows. Here's what 2K Community Manager Mr.Greg shares about it: To get the image in different aspect ratios go to the reveal post at the 2K forums here. Also, for information about the different retail versions of the game and what to expect from pre-orders see this other post.
