  2. I've found apocalypse to be my favourite X-com game as well. Mostly because of the real time game mode, I can't stand being shot at and not being able to return fire because I've used up all my TUs. And the fights in the city and between companies are great ofcourse

    The fourth mission is way too hard compared to the third. The only thing that made the third mission annoying was that I had to walk through the city three times to get all the aliens. Too bad.. this mod looked kinda cool at first.

    I downloaded the mod a few days ago, I can't get past the 4th mission Blasted Mutons. I tried blinding them with smoke grenades and then normal grenades but there's just too many of them...

  6. a "fan weapon" would be nice, not too effective though, short range and all. I'd like to see an ion cannon, somewhat like in the c&c ion cannon, fired from a satellite. See that suspicious looking tree there? I bet there are 10 sectoids behind it. Throw an ion homing beacon at it, WOOSH, tree? where? Ok I know a grenade would do the same thing but this looks a bit more spectacular. On the downside, nothing left to do an autopsy on.

  8. The compatability tab can be used to install programs that say they can't be installed on a windows NT system. It fools the application into believing you're using an older version of windows but it doesn't change anything else.

    I don't know any software sollutions, but you can always pull the plug of your speakers halfway out of your soundcard.
  10. The only disadvantage of a fast game is that if laser beams, plasma, whatever are fired at your troops you'll have no idea where they came from because they're just to fast. However it saves you a lot of time not having to watch lasers miss their target and strike a barn at the other side of the map.

    Money is not my main concern got about 80 million. It's more that I don't want them to defect Edit: I've managed to assault almost every ufo that landed. Had to let a couple go. Probably found the reason for all the activity in the area, found two bases there.

    I have about 10 ufo's flying around in and around Saudi Arabia and just don't have enough forces to handle an invasion of this scale. The worst part is that my 2 avengers and firestorm are being repaired and I was cutting back on interceptors to free hangars for new craft. I'd like to know how to handle these types of situations, if there's a reason for this sudden increase of activity in one area and what to do to prevent it from happening again. Is there any way of speeding up the repairs on my ufo's? or getting them back into the air when they're still damaged?

    My ufo used to crash a lot and without any error messages. Turning on the win xp compatibility mode with all its features (256 colours, no visual theme's, no advanced text services) drastically reduced the number of crashes.

    Get your skyranger to the ufo ASAP. Send it out at the same time as your interceptors. The faster you get to the UFO the more aliens will still be inside and will not come at you from places you'd never expect. Also, develop a special tactic per ufo type. There aren't that many kinds of ufo's so that shouldn't be too hard. Enter the ufo from multiple entrances at the same time to prevent any aliens from escaping.

    My anti-etherreal strategy consists of two steps. Step one is to identify the most psi resistant units. The only way to do this is in combat. These units are transferred to a special team. Step two is to use the hyperwave decoder to filter out the ethereal ships and send in my special forces. Before I've researched/build a hyperwave decoder I just make the non psi resistant agents drop everything and complete the mission with a few elite units. It's my experience that ethereals can see about twice as far as my own agents. Especially in the dark, so I use flares to find them. I prefer to encounter them on terror missions instead of out in the open. When they're hiding somewhere around UFO's they're almost impossible to spot because of elevated terrain.

    You could try another slowdown util like Moslo If you're not satisfied with that and you really want to play you should consider purchasing the collectors edition. The collectors edition works fine on my amd 2400+ and it's really worth it.

  21. What causes low morale? My soldiers, even the higher ranked, have a considerable drop in morale when invading large UFO's. Even though none of my troops had been killed. Is it the length of the mission, getting shot at, scary environments? All of them?
  22. My rookies are treated as one of the guys; they don't have the same "load privileges" though. A killed commander gets an instant exit-and-load, rookies don't most of the time. Unless it's a small UFO, I can't stand losing units to a small UFO. Oh and in hard times they're the last to get armour of course .
  23. Voted for laser rifle because I always forget to resupply my troops with new clips . In the early stages of the game a laser pistol is good for entering UFO's. It lets you walk in a room, fire autoshots 2 or 3 times and an agent with a lot of time units can even get out of the room again.
