Well Volvo among others have even had their domains stolen before they could book their domains. It's a bit easier for them to claim the rights for it though, but sadly not all of us are owners of a huge and international company with registered brands, names etc. Hopefully someone will come up with some smart solution for it eventually. When "my" domain was taken I asked around at some Swedish suppliers ( what's it called by the way? "domain sellers"? ) and all of them replied, in my own words; "shit happends, we're sorry about it but we can't help you".

I've been annoyed by the fact that people own domains that others want for quite a while since I'm also a victim of it. My previous company, megafon, couldn't get the domain we wanted because some guy had registered it already, even though he'll surely never use it. It's still offline a couple of years later and because of the way domain-deals are today no one can help us but the owner. We even offered him a bit of money but he never responded. An idea for a simple rule to stop people from hijacking domains would be for the resellers to state something like: 'If you've bought it we want you to use it, else we'll sell it to someone who does'. This would have a kind of b-side too though, those who actually plan on doing something with a domain will have to wait until they're ready to pull it off and might loose that uniqe name to someone else while they're "waiting" / preparing for it. Any more ideas how we could make the life of these scums harder?
  3. I gave it a whack earlier and so far it's a bit of a disappointment but, I won't criticize until I've tested it thoroughly.
  4. and this calls for a new thread: Topic - "What do you people look like??"
  5. In england it rains all the time, everyone wears grey clothing, drink tea and act very posh or talk about football all the time. I though everyone knew these things by now!? I guess it's just about as accurate as polar bears living in Sweden *sigh*
  6. Me and my brother actually managed to pass through castlevania 2, despite all the IMPOSSIBLE puzzles and weirdness that he's talking about Aah the good old days when games were actually allowed to be hard ..
  7. " * Inline spell checking in text boxes " Jahay, I'll be downloading. Speaking of Mozilla, has anyone tried out their callendar program "Sunbird"? If so, is it worth a try? I could use a good program for such things..
  8. I can't help thinking this game will be worse than crap in the end, but maybe I'm focusing too much on the visuals. It's hard to judge anything else though, all I've seen so far are screenshots, non-gameplay movies and interviews.
  9. Pretty much anything from the Worms-series should have been in that list. Bouncing sheep, old ladies, ming vases, baseball bats or bananas are memorable ways to cause destruction.
  10. Hilarious, although golf balls that explode when hit are still at the top of my wishlist of pointless but funny things Man I would really have a laugh terrorising people with those at some golfrange
  11. Carmen Sandiego, or what was the name? -- Here's another one: " The past is a gaping hole. You try to run from it, but the more you run, the deeper, more terrible it grows behind you, it's edges yawning at your heels. Your only chance is to turn around and face it. But it's like looking down into the grave of your love, or kissing the mouth of a gun. A bullet trembling in it's dark nest, ready to blow your head off. "
  12. Another fond memory popped up in my head; Have a look at the last pic in the news with the squad ready to enter the ufo and I'll retell you the story: My dear recruit Hans is on the left of the door, and his buddy Rick is on the right. They've both used up most of their turn but and only Hans has a singleshot left for the enemy's turn. And so I hit the turn button - Alien walks out, says hi to hans - Hans fires ... rick goes down. - Alien laughs, kills Hans with a wink and then returns inside before anyone else get the idea of what's going on. GOOD SHOT HANS! gotta love those recruits.. ..and that's how I learned the value of positioning my units correctly, to NEVER place two units facing eachother like that.
  13. A friend of mine has a pretty intresting connection to the net. Geographicly (spelling?) his house is barely a km away from the exchange, 'pipewise' it's far longer than that. It sort of takes a long wide turn passing his area and then leads back to his house again
  14. The figure wasn't meant to be organic just like you said, the animal features are just reference to the design - it's still 100% machine. I'm glad you liked it and that I got my ideas across I'm still having a hard time with the helmet though and I can't pick which one (or which way) I should go for. But I guess it's close enough for a concept. They are actually quite a lot like each other, not intentional though of course.
  15. It's now been ages since I updated this thread (along with some other sites) with content, but I'm still alive and I'm finally allowed to show of some of my work. I also threw in a little bonus for you X-Com nuts out there, but I believe 'slaughter' is the only one who has a clue of what that new Reaper is all about. ---- "Merchy Mk.2" I needed a break from the fantasy-work that I'm currently up to so I decided to work some more on this sci-fi character. I really like the idea and looks of the weak spine, but I'm having quite a hard time coming up with a helmet version that I like, even though the direction is pretty narrowed down by now. http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/merchy2.jpg -------- "Warmage: Exodus" Here are some images from a previous employment. As usual I can't reveal too much details about the game itself, but it's created for a sort of old-school RPG that (presumably) will be released in about a year. http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/taregan_raider.jpg ---- http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/cave_creature01.jpg http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/cave_creature02.jpg ---- http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/warmage.jpg ---- http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/caiden.jpg -------- X-Com Reaper http://www.studio01.se/public/art_etc/reaper.jpg
  16. That finger should be very familiar to anyone who's played hack'n slash before ...titan quest isn't that mad though. There are some nice functions to ease your work. For instance holding shift (or ctrl, I can't remember) while attacking makes your character chop away until no one's around anymore
  17. The border really is a laugh, the way they taunt eachother any way they can - without crossing the line (litterary). Thanks for the link by the way, militaryphotos.net will be invaluable whenever I need reference for any war-related stuff again.
  18. God I'm so jealous...
  19. I checked the demo out and I'm considering buying the game, lots of fun if you're into a very Diablo-like game. Passive and offensive Earth/fire-spells + The defensive mastery sounds like what I'd try out to begin with. I got the "tag not found" error (if we're talking about the same issue) but I could solve it by changing an entry in a config. The issue was that the game was installed and set to the computer's language, in my case Swedish, which was a bit of a problem since that language pack didn't exist in my release.
  20. Really? My bad then. Fascinating how tech' "shrinks" fast, makes me think of the first computer...or more like "the hangar-sized-calculator".
  21. The DS is Nintendo's portable game system, kind of like a pocket version of the good ole' Super Nintendo. Haven't bothered to try it myself though, I'm not a big fan of gaming on 1dm wide monitors
  22. I started a short thread about it at the Afterlight site if you're interested, let's hope they manage to pull it off nicely in the end. Afterlight Thread
  23. I can Imagine dual-monitors could be pretty neat for all games that require some kind of management and status screens, EVE-online would be an excellent example of it. There are wa-h-ay too many windows to fit in one screen in that game:P
  24. Seeing people writing some of these while gaming can be understandable, using them while speaking is just embarassing. I have some students going on like this...dear god. The word lol for instance has no meaning any more, it's meaning has changet into something more like "oh, that's actually a bit funny ..and my life sucks"
  25. I have a feeling he doesn't really need to work any more in his career + he's probably sick and tired of it all by now (especially if his team goes down hard again) I've heard the media and attention around football can be pretty...'agressive' in England?
