www.ufopaedia.org ?
I don't believe multiple DNS server entries help in these situations as the servers with the wrong information are reachable and active and they will respond with the new redirection. Multiple entries only help when a particular server is completely off-line.

www.ufopaedia.org ?
I've tried IE8, FF3.6, Opera 10.10 and Chrome 4 [4.0.249.89 (38071)] and only FF had problems with the non www URL which is likely to be something it has cached rather than a DNS issue. Also ran the command ipconfig /flushdns before trying them out. Edit: Comfirmed, after cleaning FF's privacy history for the last hour or so the non www URL worked.

www.ufopaedia.org ?
It is possible to bypass the DNS query by using the hosts file in a windows system. Just add the IP address and URL name (without the http://) to the file and restart your browser. At this point DNS queries to that particular URL will not be made as the hosts file takes precedence. Note that you should remove the entry at a later time in order to prevent having issues if the actual server's IP address changes or the site is moved elsewhere. There are the entires I've used to get it working: 67.227.156.77 www.ufopaedia.org 67.227.156.77 ufopaedia.org For Windows systems, the hosts file is located at "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" (it has no extension) Note 1: For 64 bit systems the path might be different Note 2: For Windows Vista and 7 make sure the editor you use is running with hightened privileges so that the editing of the file isn't "virtualized" or simply blocked.

I hate my pc
If you want to try and discard a hardware fault you could try loading WinPE or any other PE out there that you can get and see if the mouse responds correctly or not. If it does respond well, you can forget about replacing the touchpad as it won't do you any good.

So Much Pain in this Game
The thing with Transtellar is that they usually start the game in a bad relatioship with Megapol, and since UFOs shoot Megapol vehicles Transtellar starts liking the aliens resulting in their disaproval of X-COM hostile actions against the aliens. The best way to solve the issue is to have vehicles hover at the lowest hight near the spaceport towers so the UFOs are likely to hit them and make Transtellar come to their senses about the threat they really pose. As for funds, the earliest manufacturable item is actually very low profit. The bio-module is ok for covering the salaries of the people assigned at your workshop and the upkeep of the workshop itself, but even if you have 5 guys with 100 skill you'll only get a net profit of 100 credits, and that's without considering the salaries of your soldiers, scientists and the base upkeep for the rest of the rooms. Once you develop or reverse engineer another manufacturable item you should forget about the bio-modules completely.

Best video capture freeware
Well, if it's uncompressed video then they should be huge, even with low resolution recording. After compresion they should be much smaller.

Is it possible to kill all BioMass?
Yes, some areas are not possible to completely clear once the biomass reaches them. The anti-biomass bases have a limited range making it particullary diffucult to clear areas were bases are furthest appart. The nodes only initiate and boost the growth of the biomass within a small radius, but it can perfectly keep on growing without nodes. I do believe it's possible to clear the biomass completely, but you need to be lucky on the placement of the nodes, discovering the first node and getting a mission on the biomass early enough to act in time.

xcom in dosbox
Check it again. Just go to the downloads section of dosbox http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1 and at the end of the first list you should read "Old dosbox versions 0.58-0.72 source + binary(x86)" just before the list of frontends. The link should take you to the sourceforge list of older versions.

Apocalypse under DosBox 0.73
What sound card are you choosing? By default I believe that DosBox uses a Sound Blaster 16 emulation with port 220 (did you type wrong in your post?) IRQ 7 DMA 1 and HDMA 5. The soundcard settings are found in the DosBox configuration file, just search for the string [sblaster]

Apocalypse under DosBox 0.73
The autoexec section only contais the mount for the DosBox C drive which is just a folder that contains the installed dos games. I mount or imgmount the rest manually as I need. The redirect to nul is normal for those applications that want to "hide" output messages. You can actually make it happen manually by typing practically any command from the dosbox and append the following "> nul", for example "dir > nul"

Then I'm out of ideas, try reinstalling with the instructions I gave you before.

Apocalypse under DosBox 0.73
Ok, and do you recall how you mounted the CD during the installation? The drive letter is very important. I had it installed mounted on d, if for whatever reason I mount to another letter, even if the path is the same, the game won't start, it will only work mounted on d. If you write the following command type xcom3.cfg from the doxbox command promt, what does it say? (Note that the command must be types at the level where you would type xcomapoc to start the game.

Apocalypse under DosBox 0.73
Well, as Bomb Bloke said, that's unecessary and in fact won't work at all as the path for both mounts refers to the real drive's pathing. If you mounted it like this before, I have no idea how it could actually install the game at all as the imgmount command should of given an error unless you have a copy of the iso file in your local e drive. I recommend you start from scratch. Delete the game folder completely and mount as follows mount c e:\ -freesize 800 imgmount d j:\XcomApoc.iso -t iso Proceed to install the game from the mounted d drive. You should be able to install without having to change any install settings except for the soundcard ones.

Apocalypse under DosBox 0.73
I'll look into it a bit more. You could try an alternative method: In windows, install a virtual drive application. There's plenty of free ones, but if you have some burning software that came bundled with the computer or more likely the disc burner you might already have one. In any case, mount the image with that software. In DosBox use the regular mount command to reference the letter of the virtual drive adding the "-t cdrom" EDIT: From the 0.73 Readme Note that I don't use any other additional switches for mounting the image except the "-t cdrom" and it works for me. EDIT 2: After testing the imgmount command it works with the -t iso parameters so that's not the reason it's not working. When you installed the game, did you install it from the DoxBox command line or from the windows installer? BTW, what's the "mount e j:\" command's purpose?

Apocalypse under DosBox 0.73
You need to mount a drive from the dosbox prompt that maps to the drive letter where you have the CD. And make sure you add the "-t cdrom" to the mount command.

Shadow Watch!
Why not just google-search for the demo and try it out for yourself? I've done a search and managed to get several good hits on the first page. The campaign does fall short tho. IIRC, you'll get to do 5 missions on each of the 3 cities plus the final mission totalling 16 missions in a single campaign. While it does offer replayability thanks to random initial city and faction (there's 3 factions in each city) with 3 distinct units per faction the overall strategy won't change much, if at all. EDIT Youtube searches only yielded the intro FMV here: and the Main Theme in the soundtrack with static video here:

Shadow Watch!
I've played way back. And I find it quite good. Each character has it's own set of abilities similar to S2/S3 but not as complex. Interrogation/coversation between missions is more than cosmetic as depending on the questions asked you will have different missions available and the conditions of the mission will also change (N

64bit OS
The 4GB limit is not only limited by the OS, but the motherboard must allow accessing addresses above that limit. Todays motherboards already do this, but some older ones have no possibility in doing so by design. Note that the 4Gb limit is not a memory size limit but an addressing limit and since virtually everything in the machine requires some addressing it reduces the ammount of addressing available to access system memory.

64bit OS
That's why I'm asking if it's that switch? It's not a workaround that will allow windows to access more physical memory, it just divides the virtual memory between user and kernel nothing more. Unless using it for an application that can use that ammount of memory, it is a cause of more trouble more than a solution to anything.

Are you talking about the /3GB switch used in the boot.ini file? If so, what have you understood this will benefit you?

Cloaks and robots
No, none in the vanilla game.

Scanners
I'm not sure if it's possible. I can't think of any active item that doesn't require targeting something, even if it's just ground.

Cloaks and robots
Can't really give you an opinion on personal cloack as by the time I get them I'm using other add-ons that I prefer over these. Maybe if combined with weapons that have silencers attached to them they're more useful. The group cloak is not available. As you say it appears in the glossary screen aswell as the storage screen, but you can't produce them. Basically they were cut from the game. Wasn't aware of the glossary issue, but it should be fixable some way, I'll check it out the first oportunity I get. You either stumbled upon a bug that doesn't register properly when a condition has been met for research or missing something for it's research. If you have a copy of a saved game that exhibits this condition I could look into it.

Problem with range weapons in afterlight
The only thing I can think of that causes this is add-ons. This happened when using the remove all button from the equipment screen as it doesn't reset all bonuses/penalties from the character. Unfortunately, there's no known way to restore the character of ongoing game. EDIT: Revising the addons, the only one that seems to reduce range is the "Cooler" for laser weapons.
