  1. Reload time! You've got a bug! Its happened to me also, if its the first pillar of death mission you might have an issue.. but when it happened to me I was on my 3-4 pillar mission and I just reloaded it.. Hope this helps
  2. Well heres the REAL answer to your question... You can't wipe out the Cultist they are needed for the plot line so if you wipe them out they have to be given new bases or the game would be a dead end... If your able to take over the whole world so easy I suggest a harder setting of game play.. Altar has that cultist "random" feature so you can keep playing the game.. I would have handled it differantly if I made the game, (like making a base you can't Capture) but then people would bitch about Altar making a base that you can't capture so just deal with it the way it is... When I play I always leave just ONE cultist base (has to be a base).. Untouched they every once in a while attack you but you can defend you land like normal, and nothing is randomly given to anyone.. Hope this helps
  3. Hmmm well that kind of puts more of a question on the whole "software copyright" thing.. Ill have to serach around on the laws again.. maybe if a game doesn't hold an active copyright (just the rights, to the use of the name etc) and it can't be bought, maybe it can be released for shareware? ******** EDIT******* After doing some digging I found out that in the US, UK and much or Europe copyrighted code remains so FOREVER even if the company doesn't exist anymore... Abandonware sites just post the software in the hope that they don't get sued or discovered, by anyone holding the rights to the old game (since many title copyrights are bought up, and or acquired when purchasing an old software company)... After reading over a dozen sites offering info on the subject I have come to realize that unless File planet pays a nominal copyright usage fee or is associated with the rights holder then that download is also not legal (but as slaughter said they must have a deal cut, I don't think such a large company wouldn't "risk" it) *****END EDIT******
  4. Ok so after surfing around for info on where I can find a copy of one of my alltime favorite games (reunion).. I can across this site: *removed* now they offer FULL version games for download for FREE.. Im talking most of the classics... including X-COM... Can they do this?
  5. I agree I've had to reload a mission in my 2nd game because one of those brainmen got to close to my troops and both went down in a hail of m60 rounds... But these missions are the best! after all the enemies are down hit the button to continue the mission.. then go around and knockout all the allied troops (don't kill them).. one by one take there weapons and ammo then revive them so you don't get negative relations when that group... Also watch out! Sometimes if one of them see you jump his comrade he'll open fire on you!
  6. Yeah, I've had a few that needed to Stop, Drop, and Roll, even through they ran out of the flames.... I didn't run into this till I restarted the game on hard... I don't think it happened to me when I was playing on normal mode... that could be it?
  7. You have to equipt one of your sqaudies with a gun called a "super soaker" or "bucket o water" no no, just messing around.. They will just burn till the burnings done.. if they live thats a bonus!! if not then you can revive them (before the mission is over) with a level 3 medic... keep in mid that some armor has better resistences to fire etc..
  8. Hmm odd, I aways got them back again, it always decomposes them.. For example if you take down a cultist and hes using an AK with a gyro, at the end of the mission you get 1 AK and 1 Gyro ... I get them back at the end and get to build/research them.. Not sure whats up with your issue .. (PS im also using patch 1.2) -Ja ne
  9. Well Im jumping on this old post... Im having the same issue.. I've tried changing the res (in the exe proporties), messing with my video card settings.. changing the screen size (ofcourse)... and I even went as far as disabling the drivers for my video card, switching monitors, and tried running it without direct draw.. Still no go.. Im settleing right now for running the dos version viados box in a small windowed screen... If I make the dosbox screen full size it cuts off the end of my screen just like playing the windows version of the game does... Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks!!
  10. Yeah some tech in this game is bugged.. In my first game I had beat the game and researched everything and simply never got the option to build some items, one of them being the gyro... In my 2nd game I read off this forum about the "drop" bug, where if you have an item and can't build/research it... Then if you bring one of the items with you on a mission and drop it on the ground.. at the end of the mission you "find" it and then bingo! You can build/research it.. Im in my 3rd game now and I can build everything.. I suggest you try it out.. good luck! and have fun!
  11. Make sure when you in your "squad" screen you hit the "compose" button when you select the weapon and drag and drop the launcher onto the weapon and save the new weapon layout before you can use it
  12. It might be a bug.. In my game I've had about 3 destroy the pillar missions.. The 3rd time, I sweep the map clear no more SG and no sign of the pillar... It was one of those refinery maps.. I reloaded and still same thing.. I spent 20 mins looking for that stupid pillar.. Finally I loaded an earlier save and had to play from there.. That mission has not come up again.... I think its a known bug.. I'd give up on it.. load a previous saved game..
  13. Glad you got it to work -wk- I was stuck on sort of the same issue.. I had the rifle, and could make normal rounds but it wouldn't let me make AP rounds... So on a sugestion from the forum (the same that fgbrooks is taking about) I brought some AP rounds with me and dropped them on the ground.. when I won the mission I ofcourse got the AP ammo back and BAM! now it lets me research it.. strange but it worked like a charm...

    Yeah, read through that WHOLE guide.. It really helped me out.. I was allways in the NEG also.. I didn't realize that I didn't have to build tracks to every province to get the resources there.. You only have to build tracks from base to base.. That was what was killing me..
  15. Hmm wow that is strange.. mostly because sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.. I'd say if it starts to happen with more saved games then do a reinstall of the game.. It could be anything for bad game code, to corrupt sectors on your HD, to a bad install or game patch install.. (im going with Slaughter on this one and saying it sounds like bad game code)
  16. Infael is right, its up to you and if one or more apects are annoying you... I was annoyed at the rate my soldiers train.. because you can't really speed this up, unlike research.. If your speeds are to slow then you just build more labs to speed it up.. But on things you think take to long, then why not.. Its not like you can change those things by spending resources..
  17. Haha you know I hated the demo when I first played it!! It game you a tank and I couldn't fingure out how to move it out of the ship.. My friend ranted and raved about it and when I told him I thought it sucked.. He looked at me like I was crazy.. Untill i was told about the "levels" feature of the game I thought it did.. I could just picture that reviewer doing the same thing with this game.. Each reviewer should have to contact via phone to a game designer to get some tips and tricks and explain some aspects of the game.. so the reviwer has a better understanding.. If i was a game developer I'd be trying to contact everyone i could to try and setup something like this with anyone reviewing my game..

After beating Aftermath I replayed it a few times on hard mode, So going into Aftershock I started my game on hard, I struggled really badly on just about every aspect of the geoscope, however the tactical was fun and challenging.. Ultimately I restarted in "Normal" mode because the Geoscope part of the game was giving me a beating... It would be nice to have a mode that could make the Geoscope part easier.. I was thinking about using a combo of current Addons to make the Geo easier on "hard" mode as soon as I beat the game on normal...
  19. I AGREE! Great Idea's.. I'd like feed back on mine so Im going to give some feed back on my favorite idea's you guys came up with (this is brainstorming after all) ------------------------------------------------- bovine_cannibal: -Trained mutants! Ever want a pet chomper? = Great idea! I could picture sending some mutants on "point" to take some fire.. -New species of human: Brute. Gigantic, super strong, unable to wield most equipment = sure why not! Mars has lower Gravity after all.. -Multiple environments = this would just be neat! It would add a whole new aspect to the game -Politics: well Alien gangsters is a very creative idea, but lets not limit it.. Diplomacy is a great in general... ------------------------------------------------- Accounting Troll: -if soldiers had a penalty to their speed, capacity and throwing skills = YES! that would be great.. so people just can't throw worth a darn.. - I would like the diplomacy expanded = Fighting factions! which affects your standing with one or both of them, maybe having to choose sides! mediate a dispute.. I love it! - Custom battles = I mentioned this also.. So of course I think its a good idea.. test some new strats etc.. ------------------------------------------------- infael - And an confirmation to turn off a track = YES! I've done this myself, its very annoying, and not to mention a waste of resources -I'd like to rename squad tabs = post this as a mod idea.. im sure it would be easy to make re-namable tabs
  20. hmmm all good points... But hey lets face facts we all love a Genre of game that not of other people love (or even like ).. Its sad but true, I think 51% is good considering most people would rate it a -20% (just not there cup of tea ).. Its not ground breaking (like X-COM was) to give it alitle more % and its basicly the same engine as ufo:aftermath just with a resource/base style added on.. Hell even X-COM wasn't even ground breaking! It was a knock off of Lazer squad... So all an all Im happy with the 51% atleast they were open minded enough to know that a bunch of uber strat dorks like us would be foaming at the mouth for this puppy.. but they had to let MOST people know that they'd never get into it..
  21. I have failed missions doing this aswell.. I wait till I get the "you've won" screen say yes to continue then killed everyone and take their eq and weapons... I finish the mission and BAM its failed... not all the time, but it has happened.. (I just reload..) maybe its just after the last patch came out?
  22. haha got to love those physics! Yeah, I don't have any proof.. But I've seen a grenade come from the roof of a building, after scouting there was an enemy inside but no one on the roof.. So I figured it must have come from the bugger inside the building and must have been a glitch.. Let me tell you it doesn't work for us! it tells me I can't throw there! :mad: fun fun fun I could be wrong but i've noticed some enemy units having crazy line of sight.. They could have "heard" me but shots from across the screen are not fun haha
  23. I was just think what made X-COM so good, along with a few other favorites.. -What about Vehicles? Or robot tanks like X-COM.. -More of a back end.. like for example mines and buildings should require hundreds of people to run them.. So in a way people are another resource.. If not enough people staffed in a building then the building only runs at a % of its full power... -Diplomacy like CIV or MOO, where you can ask them to attack or defend for you, or even share technology both ways.. tribute, terror tactics etc.. -A better GUI to allow your troops to face a certain direction, I find it very clumsy now... or even a special better sneak or stealth mode, where anyone on this mode moves slow but stealthy and people with stealth bonus even more so.. -Multiplayer mode, I can think of some ways to add a multiplayer co-op or death match version to the current game... but the easiest way would just to offer multiplayer just in the tactical mode.. have about 20 or so scenarios we could play.... laputains vs cyborgs, or mutants or even laputains etc.. you could choose a "tech" lvl to play.. for example use only "human weapons" or just "blades" or only "lasers" etc They can even add a money value to everything and give a money amount to spend for multiplayer battles.. it would make the game more dynamic.. -Some defense in missions.. pill boxes, traps, trip wires, dug in troops, even ambushes.. and smart troop movement.. the cpu should always go for cover, try to range fire if getting ranged at.. and WATCH their flanks!! Even make them smart enough that when they hear shots or movement they try to come up on the flank, or pick a front attack or rear attack at random so you get rushed in all directions the other words (smart cpu flanking, or coordinated attacks).. Also why not have them call for help.. radios let them call in for help from others in the level, calling in potions of your troops etc.. Just my 2 pennies
