  1. Ahhh! My eyes hurt! No light please, No light! <The old BL burned to ashes.> If I log in from the forum, I can't see the avatars. If I then click on "Review the complete topic", I see the avatars on the new window. The old window remains avatar-less. BL.
  2. I usually attack a base with 5 soldiers. I guess I have to bring more soldiers to carry all the stuffs back to the landing areas. I have a lot of money from doing regular raids to the ships that landed at an alien base near Cairo. I am still waiting for a retailiation from the aliens. Well, I meant to ask other members to post their interesting missions here. It is too late to edit my topic. But, thx for the tips. BL.
  3. (start log) Three bases are in London, Paris, and somewhere near south Poland. Near the end of the month, the aliens swarmed the regions. Two battleships began to converge on a spot near Paris. The local bases were too busy to deal with smaller ships so Tokyo and New York both sent emergency teams to the spot. After some fierced battles that ended with much destructions, our teams brought back what was left of the UFOs. Unfortunately, we could not prevent the aliens from building a new base near Paris. A few days later, we lost funding from the UK. (end log) (personal log) Why we don't lost Canada :hmmm: ? Perhaps, we only have to look at its funding. http://www3.telus.net/batubc/canflg.jpg and Reference: Dolighan. www.dolighan.com BL.
  4. Just found out why it is different from the dos game intro. I looked at the XCOMMAND website and it mentions that it is a "PSX" intro of UFO defence. It certainly sounds better and the cut scenes are little more dramatic. BL.
  5. I always assumed that if you destroyed the power unit (that power the ship), you wouldn't get any elerium. If you don't destroy the power unit, you get both the power unit and the elerium. Glad to know this because I can start to blow up the power unit with my plasma weapons so I can get to the aliens hiding behind it. At the alien base, there are sphere-like objects sitting at the four corners of an intersection. Does anyone know what are they? They blow up like human gas pumps. May be they function just like the alien garden for serving no purpose. BL.
  6. For the moslo, the command lines that I use in my batch file (ie. ufomoslo.bat): @echo off cd c:\windows command\moslo /20 c:\windows\command.com then, open up the MS-DOS Prompt, go to your UFO directory, type and run the game there. Later, adjust the speeds of the troop and the aliens to your choice (during the combat). It works fine unless you type the moslo command twice, which make the game really slow. After you exited the game, change your directory back to c:\windows then type "exit." BL.
  7. Hi, If I want to edit a soldier's stamina and TU, and various armours that it uses (ie. the flying suit and the purple suit), which current editor should I use? Thanks. BL.
  8. Nope. Never have such an experience before. Geeze, many of you have such strange, random encounters, I wish I got one too. Someone on this forum did mention that you could use xcomutil (?) to add more enemies in a mission. I never try it. BL. -- Canada.
  9. Hi, I downloaded one of the UFO movies from this site. To my amazement, the intro movie's music and sounds are very good. Are they what is suppose to be if the setup is done properly? But then again, the movie may be enhanced? My sound card setup is the following: AWE64 ISA so, Picked (AWE32 or SB16 compatible) option. port address: 220 IRQ: 5 DMA: 5 sound channels: 8 Next, picked (AWE32 general midi). End selection. BL.
  10. At the moment, I don't have the slightest experience in dealing with the dos6 situation (what you described). But, it is a start. When I have time, I will go to get some books and learn about it. Thanks. BL.
  11. Hi, Just like Jman said, when you are in defence mode, save your TU and set snap shot while doing that so you can get a faster shot than the aliens when they passed by or approached you. Another benefit is that you can get another shots or move away if the automatic response shot is missed. I often caught aliens who were going to throw their grenades at my troop. Of course, it detonated after they collapsed. At the end of every turn, make sure you have enough TU for your snap shot. I don't see you can lost a mission unless you were in one very unlucky situaton. On the other hand, if you suspect that an enemy is in the near corner and probably spent its TU, you want to jump in to finish it. Or else, it could be a big threat. Not much to say, it is a fun game. Sometimes you win, sometime you lose. If you plan well, you usually win. BL.
  12. Hi BladeFireLight, I have some programming skills. If I want to make an editor such as what you described, what kind of programming language should I use? Also, what company's package should I use? ie. Borland's Assembly program, MS's visual c++, etc. Generally, what is the first step to take? Thanks. BL.
  13. Hi, How do I get the sound effects of v1.0 and put them into the v1.4? I am not sure I have the old disks but I would like to know how to do it. Thanks. I read the old posts which argued that the old sound effects (ie. laser burst) were much more better than v1.4. BL.
  14. I usually use the following setup; 4 soldiers and 2 tanks. Solders: laser rifle, two grenade, one proximity grenade, one smoke grenade. Laser rifle; a fairly accurate and speedy weapon. Grenade; use for distraction. Proximity grenade; it is a mouse trap. Smoke grenade; cover my track. Tank; scouting. extra; the soldiers pick up dead enemies' grenades. Sometimes, I use 6 to 8 soldiers, with may be one tank.
  15. Hi, Does anyone know which weapon can raise its damage units to a point that it can shoot through one enemy and struck the second one? If not, I wonder if such weapon can be created in "ufo defence." BL
