  1. i act 25, and i'm actually 19...
  2. it has the year and platform right next to the title, i.e.: alone in the dark 1992(pc)
  3. i agree with neorapsta, they're just there for entertainment... but as for most feared aliens, that would have to be etherials, hands down, just one of those suckers can take down my whole squad if i'm not really really careful, and i NEVER go to a ship bigger than a medium scout when it's etherials, they'll just mop the floor with me...
  4. what kind of 2d art are you after, textures, or actual concept art?
  5. definitely a really good movie... i had virtually the exact same reaction as the guy in the movie when he saw the alien on the news...
  6. well, that just inspired me to do this: (run through hq3x just for fun ) http://members.shaw.ca/uselessness/gattling-laser2.jpg
  7. i actually found the exact opposite, i felt that apocalypse was more of a campy sci-fi style than ufo, and ufo was more of a horror style than apoc, mainly because of the lighting (or lack thereof) in apoc... oh, and welcome Haijo
  8. like i said, this is just a teaser, i've got a lot more written already, i just might change a couple of small things here and there, and i still have to write at least a little bit more...

    A X-Com mod

cool are there any screenshots available? i don't have freedom force, but i might be able to convince a friend of mine to re-install his copy of it if it looks good enough...
  10. yes, here it is, a "new" fanfic (i've been working on it on and off for the past year-ish, but progress has steadily ground to a halt) *** Private Johnson hated the midnight shift. He sat at his console, staring off into space, lost in deep thought. ***What if the aliens had never came to Earth? What would I be doing, right now?*** He looked around the now deserted control room. Everyone else had gone to bed, and left him alone for his watch. ***Oh well,*** he thought, ***it gives me a chance to read my book...*** He picked up his book, found his place, and started reading. As he continued, his thoguhts drifted farther and farther away from the problems facing X-com. Alien activity had risen over 300% in the past two weeks, and X-com was beginning to feel the strain, with it's forces stretched as thinly as possible across the globe. Johnson was snapped back to reality by an alarm on his console. He tapped a few keys, and brought up the radar display, to see what was going on. His blood went cold when he realised what this report meant. He reacehd for the general alarm button, and mahshed it as hard as he could, as if it made a difference. The control room darkened for an instant as the lighting shifted to red. Alarms went off across the base, in every room, halway and hangar. Suddenly the base came alive as the personnel woke up, and realised what was happening. Johnson stared at the radar monitor, watching the alien battleship on long-range radar, heading straight for Area 51, the North-American X-com installation. *** it gets really action-packed after this, trust me comments etc welcome, as always
  11. fricken' sweet :inlove: edit: just out of curiosity, how do you use it on a regular image?
  12. "hey larry, ten points if you can hit that sectoid on the way down" *squish*
  13. i personally think that this one deserves the award: http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/8/ i laughed my ass off at this one
  14. well, i though about just having one corridor winding around, but that would have made it too linear and repetitive, so i've configured the interior somewhat like a regular battleship, mostly symmetrical with some differences to break it up a bit, and plenty of ways to get from a to b, as well as plenty of opportunities for the aliens to get behind you also, if anyone could tell me the standard compliment of aliens aborad a battleship, it would be greatly appreciated...
  15. alien bases are underwater, both stages iirc...
  16. ooh, another one, is kinda cheap for deployment using the avenger, you can walk units diagonally through the wall, going between the wall on the top left, and the diagonal wall that connects with the rear door of the ship, which can help you get units out of the avenger quicker if you're going for speed...
  17. or at least, i'm in the process of making one, here's a teaser: http://members.shaw.ca/uselessness/leapfrog.jpg it's nicknamed the leapfrog, for it's shape and speed, and... yeah... :dontgetit:
  18. you mean in tactical? no, they're not underwater, so no, you're right, you can't use your tank, or any other weapons of mass destruction, such as the pwt launcher, but neither can the aliens, so that's probably a good thing
  19. how are you guys doing a geoscape in half life??? :dontgetit:
  20. The MC chain is my personal favourite, but here's another one I use; on the lower level of cydonia, once i find the brain tile, i have my little MC chain, and i use the alien to open the door on the top left side, then i fire a blaster bomb from wherever i start along the shortest possible route, through the door, up one of the elevators, and straight down the middle aisle of the to floor, but i usually hit an ethereal commander on the way, so if i have two guys with blaster bombs, i'll send two... i think i've only seen the alien brain with human eyes once or twice, of all the times i've beaten the game...
  21. here's a little something else to play with, i felt that a single elevator would match better than having two separate elevators in the lower level, so i made one in a moment of boredom... http://members.shaw.ca/uselessness/new_colony_entry.jpg http://members.shaw.ca/uselessness/new_colony_entry2.jpg once i'm done the routes, i'll put it up for download
  22. i threw a smoke grenade at an alien once hoping that he wouldn't be able to find his way out cause all my guys nearby were out of ammo...
  23. if anyone can find a use for them, they are in dire need of rmp work, but when i found out about having to have different routes for commanders/etc, i kinda lost heart, but here they are, incomplete rmp files and all, just unzip the map files to the maps folder, and the rmp files to the routes folder, in the editor, they need the following palletes (possibly in this order): FOREST, U_BASE, U_WALL02, U_PODS, U_EXT02, U_BITS. tear them apart, find out how they work, put them back together, maybe finish them or find out how to use them in-game (i will bear your children if you do) here's a legend of what each section is [supposed] to be: -ABUL_201: Cetral elevator; large concentration of aliens here, but preferrrably behind cover, to keep safe from blaster bombs. -ABUL_202: Meeting/Recreation area; small number of aliens here, mainly just a junction and entrance. -ABUL_203a: Engineering bay and hangar; engineers go here, in and around the ufo contained in the hangar. -ABUL_204: Command post; commanders/leaders go here, only one way in, if the player is in desperate need of a live commander or the extra kills, there will be a bloodbath. -ABUL_205: Medical area; medics go here, this is also a main entrance. -ABUL_206: Elevated corridor to the hangar; small or no concentration of aliens, landing zone in the bottom-right for skyrangers/avengers. -ABUL_207: Entrance to the hangar; small or no concentration of aliens, landing zone in top-right for lightning, bottom right for skyranger/avenger. -ABUL_208: Sensor tower; small or no concentration of aliens, landing sone in top-left for skyranger/avenger, top-right for lightning. -ABUL_209: Recreation area; light concentration of aliens, landing zone in bottom-left for lightning. enjoy http://members.shaw.ca/uselessness/ufo_colony_maps.zip edit: btw: ABUL stands for Alien Base Upper Level
  24. that game gives me a bad headache whenever i play it for more that 15 minutes, it's just too fast paced and hectic, it totally loses the atmosphere of X-com (except for appocalypse, since they decided to get rid of night missions :hmmm: and i'm not sure about interceptor, since i've never played it)
  25. i personally really like the idea of number two, where you can just tell it to scan for errors, although #3 would be quite useful too
