  1. Hi! New here. Not new to X-Com though I imagine I might as well be compared to a lot of you. Always been a big fan but not actually completed a game a single time. Figured I'd finally get that done for once and I was doing good progress to until I realized something was deeply wrong. That and the fact that it kept crashing sort of clued me in that I needed the help of professionals! Okay, so background. Bought X-Com: UFO Defense on Steam, played it for a bit but because it didn't quite work in my resolution plus a few other issues I figured there had to be a mod or a patch that fixed the biggest issues. Enter "UFO Extender", marvelous thing, love it to bits, and my love for the creators is bottomless. I never expected it to work perfectly, I had a few crashes but nothing a reload never fixed. I have the MP3 soundtrack and everything, it's fantastic! But I've come to the crossroads and now I have to make a choice. For one, there's a consistent crash. Every time I research (interrogate) an Ethereal Leader the game blows up in my face. I tried a few things, searched around online but no-one else seemed to have this problem so I figured it had to be something wrong with my settings. I eventually got around this by simply loading X-Com without UFOloader, completing the research (which worked), saving then booting UFOloader up again. And if it was just that, I wouldn't bother you. Problem solved. (For the record, it seemed like the game was looking for something and couldn't find it. Upon getting the research results and seeing what completing this research unlocked, the game seemed to not find anything. Pressing "Allocate Research" sent me to a lab that wasn't mine doing research I had already done and clicking "OK" sent me to the workshop where it first time said "We can now create Terror-" then broke and the second time it said "We can now create -insert a ton upon tons of results on top of each other-" before crashing. I can still recreate the exact string if it's of interest.) However... There seems to be another problem with my game. So my question is this: does loading a save file from an unextended Steam copy and loading it extended work? The reason I ask is because... well, I have absolutely no Elerium. Like, at all. I didn't think much of it at first, I'm only in August of my first year but at that point I was so outmatched in the skies that I figured it was time to get some new aircrafts up and running. So I researched... and I researched... and researched. But I never got those elusive new crafts. Then I realized Elerium was nowhere to be seen (though I've recovered a ton of intact UFOs at this point) and upon checking online, yes, Elerium very much needs to be researched to get... well, anywhere at this point, really. Not to mention without it I'll never get my ass to Mars. So, basically, how screwed is my save file at this point? Because it seems like starting over is my only option although I'd like to know if that even works. Or is it something in the INI that's causing the problem? Or is it something the game itself that is broken?

  2. I'm pretty sure I'm using 1,33, at least it says so when I start the game. Still, I went ahead and replaced everything but the INI from the link you provided to make sure. I'm only using Extender (who needs anything else, eh? *wipes the brown off*) as for the options activated I haven't changed much as of yet. Double click for movement, TFTD doors (seriously, what were they thinking originally?), save equipment and show stats and, of course, some graphical changes. I used HQ4x at first for simple full screen but only a few hours ago played around with D3D so now I'm rolling with that (didn't change the crash, though). I did notice that the error code/string I get when the research crash occurs changes from time to time so it doesn't seem to be entirely consistent as I thought. That said, I went ahead and started a new game, gave me an opportunity to correct a few things I did wrong in my first play (reason why I never finish a game of X-Com), and I'm already noticing a few things I don't think were affecting me before. So it could be that I answered my own question before and that the change from regular, un-modded Steam version didn't to Extended didn't go so well. That said, I have already captured a few UFOs and no Elerium so far. Granted, I haven't researched UFO Power Source yet so that might be why, what do I know. Oh, and to clarify, no alternate research tree as far as I know. Edit: I tried playing the game with the straight up Steam version and I did get Elerium in a previous mission where I before didn't get any with the mod so it's definitely something there making a mess of things. Even though it's not active, could it be the Wreck Analysis thing making a fuss? I've seen other people have issues with it. Edit 2/3: I activated Wreck Analysis and then I suddenly started getting Elerium again. Even if I turn the Wreck Analysis off again, I still keep getting Elerium. I am very confused. I hope this might give you some insight into a potential problem but I obviously don't have any idea what it might be.

  3. The last two are impossible to achieve with the vanilla OpenXcom. There's already 44 additional maps, although I'm planning to add more in the future. As for guns, there are the Mercenary weapons, which are upgraded conventional and there are also some human plasma weapons. What else would you like to see? You just need to get a little lucky since they can reappear, although as time goes on they'll field better weapons and armor. And the same applies for the cultists.

  4. Thanks for supporting the Extender. I'm sorry to hear of the problems you've been having. You can post your issues here or in the UFO Extender topic under the modding section of X-Com. What version of the Extender are you playing? Also, what mods are you using? Are you using the alternate research tree mod? The elerium issue has been reported by others. To fix that try using this version: http://www.strategyc...440#entry138460 It might also fix the issue about the Ethereal leader. Even if it fixes both issues, it will only allow you to start recovering elerium from where you are in the game.

    Reconstruction

Yup -on ours we just had to take some small caps off, flip the doors and put the caps over the holes where the hinges were. Fortunately our kitchen isn't built to any sort of spec so we're blessed with masses of space and the doors handily open up onto a patch of bare wall rather than the middle of the kitchen like they originally used to. @SV - I can see why the minor things take longer. That's like me with finishing off painting ANY room I start because I hate having to do the fiddly bits where the wall meets the ceiling (and I don't like putting that coving stuff up - doesn't look good in our old house since the walls, floors and ceilings are all at odd angles!). The rest of painting a room can be quite satisfying when you're doing large areas with a roller, but I've no patience for the finishing touches. I'm better at the more technical aspects though - I'll take a good long time to get a curtain rail perfectly spaced and level, and I've put up four monitors on a wall in work at various intervals over the last 18 months and they're all perfectly spaced and level too. I think that is down to the fun of the power tools though
