  1. This mission is covered in depth here: http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=421 Z.
  2. Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing myself. When cleaning out bases/ufos i send 3-4 with MP7 and heroic/super-heroic in both alien- and handgunskill. Clean house every time. But then again, MP7 is a weapon you usually get a good way into the game so you get to try out other weapons before the MP7. It lacks range though, so a MP7-only squad is not the way to go on all missions. Nevertheless one powerful gun. Z.
  3. @Basilisk I just got the mission and decided to go straight away, I have 40+ bases and loads of equipment and loaded out as you did, but the aliens with rockes were waaay out of range for the gatling and even the advanced lasers. I was toast in like 10 seconds :-/ Z.
  4. @Taiin Ragnar It is ok to be new to boards, but what I think most people are referring to is the first post that will ever be on this board since it is "pinned" (means it will always be on the first page on top) with the topic "Pinned: Before you post a question....". In this posting it tells old and new people to this board that they should search the board before they post a new topic since it very often tend to be a question already answered a lot of times. But let this be the end of it, because I recon you and others will now search before you post. Z.
  5. read this board and you will find out, it has been answered many times Z.
  6. Those files are automatic strategic-saves from tactical missions. If you save at a mission you can not reload if you were to delete its correlating strategic-save file. Z.
  7. Dunno what you guys are talking about, my savegames have always sorted themselves alphabetically nomatter which game is saved first. Z.
  8. @Paganarh Nice one, I agree with you that it could be a good expansion or sequel for that matter. Defending earth has it's charms, but attacking an unknown world with more or less unknown lifeforms, weather and whatever sounds quite appealing Also, this would be much more difficult since we'de have to get a bridgehead and then fight our way to get good foothold for further expansion. This could also be done for a solarsystem too, and then even more variety. Galaxy-sized expansion would be oh so nice, but I'm afraid it is hardly doable without a high budget over several years Z.
  9. @Smurf I've played the game twice up until the point where you attack the secret Russian base and until that point in the game I have not encountered any major bugs or flaws except the unlimited ammo-bug for the alien power cell. The game has run smooth without exception up until now, atleast. Though I can't say, yet, if there's any other worse bugs to be expected further ahead though. Z.

    Snipers

Personally I would say sniper are a musthave in every troop formation, 1 or 2. But also pick the best suited person to be trained to be a sniper. You need good ratio in Marksmanship- and Alien-skill to be a well trained sniper, though you get well by with everything from Very Good on both skills. My sniper now has Super-Heroic on both stats and he rarely misses and takes down most outdoor aliens before they even understand where the noise is coming from, at a distance that is. His secondary function is MP7 handgunner indoors/close quarters. Intelligence affects alienskill and so does some other stats to a lesser degree, and good Alien skills gives multiplier damage when hitting aliens. So high Alien-skill means more damage pr. shots fired, which is essential later in the game Z.
  11. @taydar The Russian mission is easily playable with earth equipment, if not better, even on Hard difficulty. Ofcourse you have to save and load some, but it is highly doable. A good thread for tactics on that mission is this one right here: http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=421 Z.
  12. I just love this game and recon I'll be playing it at least at all startingpoints and ofcourse on Hard difficulty all the way :-) Graphics are great, considering this is a strategic game and not some graphicsorgy of a first person shooter. This is no instant gratification game however, you have to play it a good while until you really get the hang of it and decide if you love it or not. I was very sceptical at the start, but seeing the progress of the game, story, research and items I now love the game. Don't be surprised if halfway out in your first game you decide to restart the game and do it all again in a better way because now you know the game and you want to be more effective in strategy, research and expansion. I did My machine specs for the game is: AMD XP1800+ 768 mb PC133 SDRAM GeForce3 Ti200 64 mb SB Live! It runs like a charm on that. My neighbour has another setup: PIII 500mhz GeForce2 MX 128 mb PC100 SDRAM Soundblaster 128 and still on this system it runs very good. Z.
  13. The sky armor is weak to Hard damage yeah, I used the Stayr Assault Rifle the last time around, thought this time I will have a go with the MP7 as the rate of fire in burstmode is superior. Though, the Stayr has a longer aimed range wich is good on the topside mission. I'm on feb. 12 in my current game, got 16 bases and bordering to russia already. My first game it was like in mid-end of april. I have noticed that if you do missions right away they are easier, i.e. fewer aliens, weaker weapons and so on. Although the new better weapons are introduced in more or less the same pace it seems that fewer aliens in a mission got them than before. Waiting eagerly for the russian mission now to see how it is there Z.
  14. I restarted the game the other day and I am looking forward to trying this mission all over again a lot sooner than before. If everything goes as it has so far it should be less aliens and easier, since it seems if you do your missions quickly and don't use a lot of days and months getting there it is easier to capture the objective Z.
  15. Hmm, interresting. I played another mission yesterday, and the last monsters left in the mission was some Cryssalis. Since their stunbeam eventuall wears off I just set my game to superfast and everytime the stun wore off I got off a shot at the Cryssalis and this back and forth eventually killed it. I guess I could've just brought in the other soldiers but they were on the other side of the map and I knew he'd kill them anyway. So, anyways, this lone soldiers was hit multiple times to say the least from the stunbeams and also got the critical hits (weird from a non-damage stunbeam). After the mission this soldier gained two levels while the others didn't gaine one. And my soldiers are mostly the same, levelwise. So it seems you get XP for getting PSI-attacked/stunned aswell. As you would gain bravery in X-Com if you panicked and survived a mission. Z.
