Space Voyager
True, true... Seriously, I cursed out loud when I saw who joined the battle, and than some more when I saw how many came... VNs are one of those randoms that are size-of-fleet dependant, so when they arrived at the system with two whole battlefleets... The other such random are meteors, which is why our colony was destroyed. Mostly because we don't have any PD. Now we at least have phasers, those are pinpoint accurate and can serve as makeshift PD. Yes, the link to phaser PD is dead as well, so I'm going crazy.
Space Voyager
Well... The bastards called Aiken Drum weren't all too serious about our ceasefire agreement. It was cancelled the next turn so I had no time to add some nice additions to my new DN designs. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-21.jpghttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-20.jpg Why was there no time?!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-18.jpgWe have a scientist less. Anyway, we went for mass production of a warfleet. DNs as the backbone, aided by EMP torpedo DEs and some boarding cruisers. We still manage to take one now and than and this is GOOD. Especially since the damn hoomanz have antimatter and if we can snatch a DN from their hands for free... The main problem is that these bastards have ALL KINDS of point defence while we have none at all. Lately they started to arm their ships with missile PD and it makes SHORT work of our boarding pods. Remember what I wrote was our biggest blunder? It wasn't. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-18.jpgThis was. See it? Check the civilian population slider (bar). It is half yellow and half green. It SHOULD be all yellow. Long ago. I forgot about overpopulation altogether. So we go for that now, not at all on all our worlds, naturally. And not on all to the full. I have a basic rule of only going for overpop on worlds with 3000+ resources and where I won't need the resources for production. And it is no use going overpop if you can't fill the new trade routes so don't go all out, go slowly. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-17.jpghttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-8.jpgAnother of our colonies bites the dust. Space Voyager
We go for Human Xenotech to incorporate a remaining independent colony. Previously they were all allied but the other two decided it wasn't in their interest to attack me. Now somehow Aiken Drum and Morrigi empire, Chagadai the Black, are on war footing! And the other Humna empire, Revenge Fleet, stayed allied to Morrigi rather than siding with own kin. This may be the ideal moment. I won't even wait for fleet to assemble at Ka'Valla, I'll just redirect them as most can arrive on same turn! Sunflash
Not having this game, I find myself curious. If we're talking low-blow tactics, would it be possible to do something like chemical bombs on their colonies? I seem to recall Master of Orion having that type of option, and I know GalCiv has it as a side-effect of invading (drop asteroids on 'em during the invasion to explode most of the place first, gas the cities, etc). I figure most of that would require feinting off any defenders, but with a proper set of manuvers that should probably be doable; doubly if they're not expecting it. Which they may not be expecting because you CAN'T, I dunno. xD

Space Voyager
What Thorondor said (though he glorifies my nobility far too much, he he he). There is whole bio-weapon-branch from the bio tree, but I really do dislike their use. Otherwise it is ideal for keeping the infrastructure of the planet intact, but it becomes utterly useless if the enemy researches antidotes. Space Voyager
Only one enemy DN remains. So I leave my best DN to deal with it. The main fleet is sent down the Human nodeline (I know it exists as I've seen them come down it, otherwise you can research a tech for tracking and mapping them). https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-22.jpgWHA... The basTARD! The MOTHERF... They remembered they are Humans and didn't wait for the next turn of combat they can not win. So they JUMPED TO AN UNDEFENDED COLONY. Ok, 6 destroyers do NOT count as defence against enemy DN...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-21.jpgAH crap. This was a completely developed colony with 120% infra. This happens when you only guard a "front" planet and forget that there is no real front. My best DN is sent to deal with it. Another, older one to the producing world in that sector. It takes two turns to get there. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-19.jpgIt only took one for the Humans. They jumped again. New enemy fleet. We are FFFFFFFF... Each jump means half destroyed colony. We can't do much but invest all we have into a new Armada CnC DN in hope it will save the leftovers. The two DNs chasing the Aiken Drum's DN on a rampage take a stand on what used to be one of the two producing planets of the empire. We NEED that Armada CnC to field them both at all. Space Voyager
Our empire is being torn apart. And quite some of our worlds are seriously hurt.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-23.jpg But we're not beaten yet. Not at all. We still have a worthy income, new friends and our new colonies are growing. Remember the fleet we sent down the Human nodeline (not literally)? We used it to give them some of their own medicine, though we were a lot less efficient at it than their single DN. We don't have missiles to do serious damage to the colonies and they are much better guarded than ours were. Whatever, we made a dent in their fleet, did some damage to the colonies and are now heading back to deal with their new fleet in our turf.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0002-22.jpg Our colony is destroyed. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-20.jpgBut I don't think the rampant Aiken's DN will move any more. We'll invest into lizardforming right away. There are civilians alive though! https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-9.jpgIf nothing else, they will slowly lizardform the planet. We WILL have this planet BACK. Our second-best production world is shaping up again.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0010-12.jpg I'll stop with this optimistic feeling. Though we can't be satisfied until we clear the middle sector of the new Aiken fleet and build some serious defences. Not just against the VN... A few thoughts about the future. Ok, lizardforming techs right after AM. After the blunder we went through we will need them. Than what?Definitely fleet(s) building. All the time. We won't go for boarding cruisers any more, Aiken Drum started to kite their ships with missile PD. It shreds our boarding pods. We did get some of their ship anyway but the money invested into boarding would be better spent on DNs. Better survivability, more armour, more GUNS. So DNs it is, aided perhaps by EMP DEs to fill the CnC place left. In terms of weapons... Enemy huge devotion to missile PD made me think of kitting our ships with missiles (as missile PD won't target them) but this change would soon be countered. Really, Aiken Drum is adapting faster than I am changing tactics. Most likely this is because my tactics changes were not strong enough. When I adopted one I should have adopted it BIG and push the enemy far before they can stand up. A quick retrospect; I started with EMP weaponry when I only had cruisers. The enemy had DNs. I wasn't able to field enough of EMP to make a real difference. When I was able to, the enemy had hardened electronic already as it saw where we are going. So that was a waste mostly. Not completely, yet not used when it would make a big difference. Sometimes it is better to not use a tech at all than to just show it to the enemy.Than it was boarding. Ok, that was also VN fault - they demolished our whole boarding fleet in the middle of the fight and Aiken filled in the rest. Than Aiken started the whole missile PD thing and as we were able to build a new boarding fleet it was FAR less efficient.Plans; go up the plasma tree as far as it goes. Powerful, also we haven't gone this way in our AARs yet. Projectors. Also heavy lasers. These are the only thing that keeps us afloat lately. But we WANT to go up the drone tree, too! First to see the drone designs (not to build them - missile PD, remember?), but our goal is hunter-killers only. THOSE we want to see. If we get there, we go for movies. See you all next time. Space Voyager
Aiken harassment is in the cards, so consolidating positions also seems important for us in the meantime. I was thinking: do we have any worthwhile planetary defensive structures, SV? Nope. We can BUILD them, certainly, but we'll have to at least get one decent long range large turret weapon, otherwise DN-sized satellites won't be as effective as they should. This shouldn't take too long to get though. Meanwhile we'll go for smaller satellites and, A LOT more importantly, fleets. Though for assault fleets I'd rather wait a sec for antimatter and "Thorondor" class AM Armada CnC dreadnoughts it brings. While waiting we will continue with fusion ships that will later serve as mobile defence. And satellites.

But it wouldn't matter much so I'm not sure we'll go down that path. Hrm, hitting them in the money pouch won't do much at this point? Ick. However I was talking about something more like 'unmarked ships running around blowing up things that "JUST HAPPEN" to be your foes' type of thing.Civ III had the privateers, sailing-era ship that let appears as netural/barbarians to everyone else, so you could have them attack the other players without actually starting a war. 'Techintiacly', anyhow. They were great for assaulting anything that moved in the water, as well as blockading costal cities. (Mainly because coast tiles are the richest tiles in the game, but no tile can be worked if an enemy unit is standing there. Also stops trade routes if it's blockading.) Space Voyager
Ok, GF is done with her lecture preparations and I can get back to being an interstellar emperor. First; there seems to have been a grand menace in the game. Never noticed, somebody must have cut it shorter than I'd like. Secondly, this is the system I really want to hold.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-23.jpgTiamat is a crossroad of Human nodelines and the only good link (that I'm aware of) between Aiken Drum and our space. So if I rule this system, I can stop the incursions. Not completely, but well enough. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-19.jpgProbably won't be researched... No lasers in the game really. Kao Kona regains its independence. https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-21.jpgI hope this lasts until we can get it back. Meanwhile we go and harass Revenge Fleet.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0008-21.jpg GAH, real life interferes once more. Will I ever conquer a single galaxy, DAMMIT?!
Space Voyager
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0010-16.jpgExplanation;Aiken Drum came in force. Bigger than I expected. We lost Thorondor and FullAuto. Loosing Thorondor is a bigger issue (sorry FA ) as we only had one so all we can do is flee! Staying without CnC ship is a waste of others. Oh, and Aiken has very similar ships to ours, except that it must have a better armour. We can research more, too. Sooner or later. Oh, and they have high-end beams, as you can see in the lower left corner. We are burdened with a lack of any good large turret weapons. The only ones we do have is low-end beam, so we are forced to use high(er)-end double barrel medium turret weapons in their place. We are so pissed about this loss of FA and Thor that we take it out on Revenge Fleet.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0011-14.jpg Aiken fleet immediately jumped to Altair, as expected. We have a backup fleet there but it can't stop the enemy from taking out our baby colony.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0014-13.jpg We exposed our CnC ship, Varnost (Security), instead of battleships as usual. The reason for this is that we and two CnCs and only two battleships Kladivo (Hammer) Loosing a battleship would therefore be a much bigger blow. Now we must be really careful not to loose the second one! This is the only Armada CnC ship in the vicinity and loosing it would mean several turns before I'd be able to field a big fleet! So we take the second one out of the fray.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0016-11.jpg Our latest and current research;https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0017-9.jpgDrone wing is a path to hunters, now I have to figure out what I need for that last research, probably Advanced Dreadnought Engineering. Heavy energy weapon dependency of Aiken Drum (as well as us) forced me to push for Absorbers. This should keep them at bay for quite some time if they don't go the same route, too. IF they have it. We luckily do. Antimatter and short distances in the small clusters allow me to do some of my own jumping!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0021-7.jpg Meanwhile Aiken fleet jumped to Ka'Valla, a Tarka independent colony for which we wait to be reunited...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0022-6.jpgWe expected their move so my fleeing AM fleet from Tiamat and all remaining ships from Altair met them there. Ka'Valla would more than gladly autoresolve peacefully. Our both fleets there didn't allow peace and Aiken has shown no mercy. Ah...Marked for mining. What you also see is our fleet being divided into what is left from our fusion defensive fleet and the antimatter ships from Tiamat. Those will go to Keo'Va, our production world that will have a new Thorondor class Armada CnC ship ready by their arrival. HA, gotcha! https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0023-11.jpgOur fusion defenders have dealt with the remaining DN. They had clear orders... NO SURVIVORS.
