Site Outages

Featured Replies

Hi folks

The site has experienced several outages in the last few hours. I'm being told that it's a memory issue - that we're hitting the limit of our hosting package, but I'm not convinced that's the problem so I'm working with the hosts to track down the cause.

I'll let you know more when I know more.

It's not space or bandwidth, apparently it's RAM. You don't get a lot with most hosting packages, less than a gig, but you don't generally need a lot unless you're encoding videos on the website or your forums or other database-heavy apps are getting absolutely hammered.

They've tweaked some things and asked us to monitor the situation, so if anyone notices the site go offline randomly, please let us know in this thread (when the site is back online obviously >:]).
when the site is back online obviously :oh:

Nice save, Pete. >:]

I have to say, I haven't noticed any outages for months now.

Before the three yesterday there had been a few, but the hosts' monitoring software usually picks it up in a matter of minutes and it's sorted so we no longer have the very long outages of the previous hosts.

Not sure what happened last night though as I was having to tell them it was down.

Strangest outage I've ever encountered. I got a MODx page that kept pumping out lines & lines of SQL errors, then it refreshed.

Repeat ad nauseum.

Yeah, I received a couple of notices that it had gone down - at least they're monitoring it again and rebooting it straight away, but it's not good.

I'll see if I can get another update as to what's going on.

Permission to change the topic title to 'Site Outrages'?

This has my vote just on general principles. :oh:

On topic, I've not noticed anything recently, but I think I'm on the site during you silly british people's off hours. >:]
