Just played a deathmath with a single friend, it was a massacre, it was fun at one point we crossed fire and water beams and they cancelled each other; it ended in my massive victory when I got a Summon Elemental spell and summoned too many elementals for him to handle and eventually was just running away from around 15 elementals. You might be able to get them to refund the difference, or give you another game of equal value for free. Lots of companies have some sort of policy in place for sales that take place after a customer already purchased the item. There is a time limit though, usually between days and weeks (and maybe up to a month... it all depends on the retailer). I wouldn't hold my breath with Steam, but you could give it a shot.
