  1. thats one of the things i loved about Apocalypse. Once you researched Boomeroids, it didn't matter how accurate the rookie was.
  2. In quick news, the FPS has been postponed to Q1 2013, which means it will be released more or less in the same time as the TBS reboot, around october. They might change some things in the story for the FPS.. who knows. The game was almost finished and while one can say that they just want to get clear of ME3, 6 to 7 months is a long time.
  3. i'm thinking that this is some sort of terror mission, and that device in the center came crashing down. So that roof could have already been destroyed when the skyranger landed.
  4. Not quite.. remember that in this remake there will be no TU's but action points instead. And you can either move-shoot or move-move. Shoot-shoot is also possible, but only after you get the perk. Rookies are perkless =( One more pic: http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/f...80watermark.jpg The hole looks quite.. square.. so i believe that the enviromental destruction mechanic will be tile based, just like in the original tirlogy. Also, on the Geoscape screenshot. The year is 2015
  5. Hydrodynamics i believe. What got me ticked, however, isn't the presence of windows but their shape. Their shape suggests that they have been built to withstand great amounts of pressure from the outside. But then again, its been a long time since i last played TFTD and if i'm not mistaken, their navigation methods involve some sort of force-field around the subs that would make them navigate through the water without disturbing currents? Part of the reason why they can enter and leave the water without making waves. Its possible that this same forcefield would protect the craft from the outside pressure, even if the sub itself is flooded.
  6. After staring at the windows in the USO's the question came to my mind.. I don't know a lot about deep sea pressure mechanics... But aren't concave, thick windows only necessary when the pressure inside the submarine is different than the pressure on the outside? If yes, then i'm curious as to why the alien subs would have those windows at all, since naturally all aliens can breathe underwater.
  7. That would add a little comical twist to it =)
  8. The case can also be made that they (the aliens in apoc) were invaded by the same "outsiders" as the ones in the FPS and their world was successfully terraformed. We still haven't seen all there is to see in the FPS, but there might be another intelligence behind it. If there is, i doubt it would be revealed in trailers (at least hope not). By the time Apocalypse rolls out the micronoids could be another form of the "living tech" alien we saw in the FPS. Probably coming in a different form because the original invasion back in 1950 was a flop. In my mind, psionics is a much more elegant and effective way of controlling humans than invading their bodies.
  9. I've been playing Apocalypse again this week, and i couldn't help but notice several similarities between the aliens in the XCOM FPS and the aliens in Apocalypse. First thing is that both aliens can teleport around, use energy shields and come from another dimension. Second, is that they apparently don't want to invade, but consume/terraform our world since they can't survive here as it is. And the third similarity.. well.. i'll just let these pictures speak for themselves: http://i.imgur.com/85ULO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bYpUH.jpg Notice any similarities? These blocks, cubes and things... both aliens have them as part of their worlds.
  10. Hmm, i did some image editing some five years ago but for Apocalypse, when i wanted to change one of the vehicles for the alien battleship. I managed to do it, but then i found out that you could use tools to make the alien ships themselves available for purchase hehe. I'll take a crack at it and see what i can come up with.. I really thought for a moment that it was some sort of bug like the lightning had, but i remember that with the lightning you could step through those holes, which isn't possible with the skyranger. thanks for the links =)
  11. About the UI, one of the moderators in the 2K forums confirmed to me that it will indeed be based off of the DA:O UI, in the sense that both the PC and consoles will have the same UI graphic-wise, but the PC one will have added functionalities. So no "Press Y to do this" or "LB/RB to do that" on PC version. And an updated screenshot: http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7147/1325804242985.jpg Hahha no not really.. but i'm surprised nobody called for that hairstyle yet.
  12. The entire "scan by sattelite" concept is bad in my opinion. Like someone else mentioned, the last thing X-Com has while dealing with aliens is air-superiority. This isn't streamlining, its just a silly idea. I wish they would re-consider. More screens: http://i.minus.com/ibZBEtRkSzrS5.jpg http://i.minus.com/ibcr8Qvf4l6A0g.jpg http://i.haymarket.net.au/Galleries/201201..._ShotHUD_03.jpg Some things i noticed.. The "squareboxes" over the aliens and soldiers? That's the HP. Notice how the Daniel Taylor guy has 6/6 HP? He is the same guy featured in the first screenshot with 6 boxes above him. PS: changed the screenies to URL because i have no idea how to make thumbnails here, and they are huge =)
  13. So after 15 years or so of playing EU i discovered today that your soldiers can look around the skyranger without disembarking to get a look at the outside, while being safely protected by the ship's armor. No comments about that please xD So i was thinking, it it possible to modify the skyranger (and lighting + avenger too i imagine) to include side windows? Right now it does not make too much sense that they can see straight through armor.
  14. New image: http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/7500/worldmapsu.jpg Apparently this is the XBOX geoscape. Hmm... someone on the 2K forums cleverly answered as a responce to "Press a button to scan UFO's"
  15. In one of the screenshots of one of the soldiers in the concept art video, the soldier is called "Medium Soldier", so the models for light, medium and heavy soldiers might be different. I hope we can recruit rookies like i did in the original EU. recruit 30, and fire all who don't have TU + Accyracy over 60 and good reactions. Which would leave me with 6 or 7 good recruits. In apocalypse you would get three to four available per week but didn't matter, because they were harder to kill as you mentioned. And yeah.. he probably meant 30 screenshots... I read it too fast and i thought that he meant that "Out of 30 aliens the thin mean are easelly one of the worst". What with carrying all alien weapons, leaping whole buildings and vomiting corrosive acid up close. That sounds bad ass. EDIT: Some clarification i've found
  16. Even more info: So would the move+move refill your "hex bar" once, but then you can't fire? Link: http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?1...979#post1492979 Over 30 alien species... Also didn't noticed, but indeed the armors are reminiscent of the original intro cinematic. (without looking ridiculously comicky, as they were) The description of the thin-men doesn't makes one think this game will be a stroll around the park in the harder difficulties. And about the hardest one being called classic mode.. well.. classic mode in what difficulty level? Beginner? Superhuman!? hehe
  17. There's a modified version of seb's loader that works with greatly reduced functionality with TFTD. As far as i remember only the D3D mode, windowed mode, double-click and some other things work. But its enough to be able to play the game perfectly in Windows 7 64 with no dosbox. Here's the link: http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=User:Xusilak I haven't tried ticking the MP3 music option in the config file, but i do remember that doing so in the UFO Loader without any actual MP3 music would just make the music silent. So it might work for you =)
  18. Looking to the sectoids up close they really really look like an off-shot from an aquatic race. That makes a person wonder about the meaning.. The title picture looks creepy.. reminds me of Fire in The Sky. I also see what looks like a smoke grenade in there
  19. If they go completely with the FPS storyline then maybe not. If they do, however, i hope its more "alien" than the brain in the original. In appearece sure it was as alien as alien can be, but i disliked the final cutscenes. It talked too much. This is why the cthulu aquatoid and the inter-dimensional aliens were scarier Perhaps we could capture the Brain after the final mission, instead of killing it? I'm thinking more along the lines of a cutscene where the brain is inside a lab, and Brent Spinner is the lead scientist trying to understand it. Then the brain locks tentacles around spinner's neck and explains that humanity only delayed the inevitable in a really scary voice using very little words. Then two soldiers one looking like Bill Pullman and the other looking like Will Smith shoot the thing, and the cutscene changes to Mars, where a beam of light is fired from there into the deep ocean back on earth. Then the brain would laugh Predator style while dying and the game would roll to credits. Would be awesome but there might be some copyright issues with it...
  20. Added another link to the OP. Only two things to say: "Oooohh" and "Insectoids!?!?!" By the way i think thats supposed to be a Muton
  21. Hmm true, there's another source. I was thinking more along the lines of the Templar One novel from EVE Online fiction. But in the original mythos i think its funny how nobody ever used or even talked about cloning tech they got from the first '99 aliens. It would have naturally been available to them from day one of shooting down a supply ship. About the base thing, they've mentioned you will be able to buy or rent hangar space in several countries to use as outposts. If you will have some sort of management of those outposts is unknown at the time though. We're also not sure if the main base will be vulnerable to attacks or not. Its also not known if it will be possible to have the same number of soldiers we had in the originals, where you'd bring all soldiers you could carry and have them all take a stroll when only one alien was left. Anyway i think some of that stuff will be easelly moddable, considering that Firaxis allows modding in games like Civ V and such. And thank you =)
  22. Don't think they'd make the mistake of keeping it out. It will probably be even more tense than in the original.. since it will be do or die. But really hope the base is animated.. with little people walking around.. rotating holo-globe.. transparent AC with mutons hitting the walls like mad.. skyranger being lifted down (look close, theres a lift that brings it up and down) and being loaded/unloaded.. people walking out after a mission and lvie aliens being escorted.. People playing the pool table.. weird stuff going on the labs and machinery moving around in the workshops. And.. naturally... the general stores stuffed to the ceiling with rifles and grenades whenever its 100% full keeping us from buying additional stuff. I'll only believe it if i see things forcing the door and falling down whenever someone opens it.
  23. Going a little off-topic, i think it would be awesome if we would be able to indeed "repair corpses" hehe. Or more to the point: Research, adapt and use the alien cloning technology to clone lost soldiers that were battle-hardened veterans by using their dead corpses. It's quite ugly alright.. but.. hey... War is ugly =)
  24. Yeah the squad-sight thing.. I believe that the 2-TU thing might sound little, but if you look the area around the selected soldier that's a very big area he can move around in. And once he moves, one would assume that he would get another area entirely. That's generally how hex turn-based games work isn't? I remember a PC mech game where players could only move inside said area of hexes, but depending on the unit the area would be bigger or smaller. (EDIT: Missionforce: Cyberstorm. Remembered the name hehe) Taking that into consideration, it might be that the normal, perkless unit are unable to shoot outside that area, so they wouldn't be able to shoot enemies their squadmates have spotted unless their area overlapped on the position that alien is in. And that might be where the "squad-sight" perk comes in handy. Personally i wasn't too excited about the "only one base" thing. It might mean that the base won't be vulnerable to attacks the way they were in the original trilogy. And if the sattelite and the additional hangars aren't destroyable.. that will be too easy =( And about wanting to keep perk-heavy troops... well.. the part where they emphasized that the "HWP" units would be "gone forever" when killed makes me wonder.. Does that mean that normal soldiers won't be gone forever when killed?
