  1. I played through 2 first islands today and so far the game looks decent. I read some reviews before trying this game and was concerned about the problem with friendly AI pathfinding. It certainly needs more work. When you plan a track through a narrow and empty valley and the truck stops from time to time for no apparent reason, turns back, then front again and continues its journey, there is something wrong. They reported on an official forum that this pathfinding issue is being addressed though. Other than that, no problems with stability, game's running smooth but with all options maxed out it is pretty resource hungry. The graphics looks quite good though and so do the intro movie, it is certainly better than I would expect from non-AAA title. That's about all I can tell from the first hour of playing.
  2. The review is pretty accurate I think, I only miss some kind of conclusion or summing up to support the rather low score. After 1.04c patch the game is still slow to load but stable and I haven't noticed any other bugs. For someone used to play TBSs the game is not difficult to comprehend in one testing playthrough (I played Premyslid 1166-1452), and still has enough advanced technics left to keep entertaining. So it would be 8/10 for me, but nevermind. I'd rather see some combat related DLC, than 'sim' editor though. Maybe some pretty tactics screen during combat, to organize attack, retreat, reinforcements during battle, maybe even with some fancy unit graphics. But I guess it would take to much resources to do this, so not much hope here.

The release date was changed on Q4 2012. I'm a bit disappointed it is being postponed on the end of this year, but at least it is still in development. Any update is better than none I guess..

    Piracy.

It depends on the local laws and may differ state from state. For example where I live, it never mind from which source I got and installed the game as long as I use a valid (bought) SN. And I am forbidden to use anything circumventing the DRM (if present, and it usually is), so no no-cd cracks even on legal SW, it would be otherwise considered illegaly obtained even if you still have a bill from the store So if you are really interested you have to dig into the paragraphs of your local DRM law, but the chance someone finds you are using a cracked copy of something is imho nonexistent. And your morality remains untouched since you paid for the program you're using.
  5. Weee...I want a MadCat, give me MadCat Hope it's NOT mmo though..it's been a long time I have seen decent a mech PC game. Mechwarrior 4 it was, I believe.
  6. Thats right, in Skyrim it's nearly embarassing. My favorite character in Oblivion was thief/assassin archer (I actually spent more time running from someone than fighting) and when I began my first playthrough of Skyrim, sneak killing was so easy it looked like cheating. It is unnatural nevermind in which game it is implemented, but from a game like Jagged Alliance, I would expect a little more "real" behavior than from fantasy Skyrim.
  7. I spent a week with Back in Action and it's not a bad game. (After they patched out a bug that won't let you load a save, so don't even try an unpatched version) I actually enjoyed it, but the review is quite accurate. You have less options, the AI is barely sufficient and when you want to move your group up the ladder you better plan it one by one in pause mode. I found the most irritating thing about the AI that you can kill 2 out of 5 patrolling men, prone out of sight, wait for one minute and the rest of the patrol just forgets you (usually comments with "T'was nothing.") and continues its designed route.

I don't think they want to compete with ME3. Most of the people that will buy ME never heard about UFO:ET (with you being a bright exception silencer) My guess is they'll postpone the release anyway, since the preorders are still off. It'll be okay with me to wait longer if they release it on the end.
  9. I'm certainly looking forward to it. After years I spent with Civ4 Rise of Mankind the vanilla version of Civ5 felt pathetically simple, reduced to just a few remaining mechanics. The battle model was the only improvement, a great one, but still a bit too little compared to its predecessor. Maybe after this addon modders will start working on something big again. I would love to see RoM for Civ5 in the future
  10. You nearly got me too, I have never stumbled upon this. That's pretty impressive list of things they considered redundant. I just wonder if they bothered to improve or add something new too, or if they just simplified the concept (oh not again), made brand new graphics and rushed to the stores. I guess I'll give the game a try before I consider buying it. One more thing. I think the interface is designed specifically for widescreen monitors, I only played tutorial yet, but in 1280x1024 the HUD occupies quite a lot of space on the sides of the screen. That leaves the actual view on the battlefield in rather unnatural shape of thin vertical noodle in the middle
  11. Well, I didn't experience any crashes with ACM 1.7, in fact none at all since 1.4 (was crashing when trying to equip cyborg mortar on equip squad screen, never used that in newer versions again, so I don't know if it was solved) and I'm playing quite a lot. Aftershock ACM 1.7 is my notebook all-time-installed evergreen Tried on WinXP 32bit and Win7 64bit.
  12. I read your AAR too. My poor experience of SOTS would allow me to post only stupid questions though. I tried Morrigi on easy just yesterday. Quit when all my large 4 cruiser-only assault fleets got totally wiped out in 2 turns and I was left only with spent budget I prefer images over videos, just because with my connection it takes ages to download when there's more of them. And as SV wrote, viewing pictures is much faster. But if you want to make vids go on, just don't overdo it
  13. I am afraid I wont be of much more help because I am playing UFO games on older hardware and never had issues with any of them, excluding frighteningly buggy 1.0 Aftershock. Mentioning that, even after patching Aftershock out it's a picky game, you'll best run it on a classic pc with single non integrated GPU. I'm not surprised it didn't work on SLI GTXs. The Afterlight, however, is much more friendly and should be running just fine. Here I can only tell that it is not OS related, I play both Afterlight and Aftershock on WinXP 32bit and Win7 64bit and no problem so far. Pete: I admit that I haven't tried those new processor integrated GPU's. I built a PC with Intel's i7 2600K for my sister some time ago, but didn't have time since to play with all its features. But my experience with previous (chipset integrated) generation was just awful. It might have been good for work and easy to cool, but attempts at playing games nearly all failed, be it because of low speed, crashiness, or inability to even launch. And those laptops I tried were mainstream ones, not some semi-netbooks
  14. By the nature of your error messages the problem is apparently somewhere in the graphics section. I take it that the graphics is the one integrated in processor and what Eriss stated before is absolutely true. Buying a notebook with integrated graphics and trying to play games on it is usually not possible without occasional mysterious errors and crashes. Was even more true with those older chipset integrated graphics. But it doesn't have to mean you won't be able to play it. I would first check for a new Intel driver, then tried reinstalling DirectX, mabe even NET framework and Microsoft Visual C++. It will also help if you type those error messages into google, there must have been someone before you with the same problem. Example: http://www.fixya.com/support/t10894954-pro..._pops_up_states It might not help you directly, but you'll always find there more about the problem. By the way, that openAL32.dll is a system library and you'll find it in windows/system32, if nothing else helps, you may also download its latest version and replace it, i recommend to leave a backup of this one though. Hope I helped a bit
  15. Im sure the answer is a few pages back in this topic. The latest version of Okim's ACM no longer allows you construction of more advanced firearms from the start. You'll have to get them from your enemies' cold dead hands. Once you research the right technology ("Cultist weapons" i believe), you'll be able to produce ammunition for them, though. Until then, even if you get the weapon your ammo supply will be scarce. This includes ALL weapons marked with that laputa icon instead of factory one. Usually those used by former soviet coutries. Personally, I didn't like it when I saw it at first, but I realised after playing it that the gameplay is even more interesting and forces you to attack Cultists as soon as they arrive to get some advanced equippment. I still miss real weapon names though. Equipping a soldier with dual Advanced 9mm SMGs just doesn't sound right.
