    Alien Pact

something like that just happened to me like that with brazil.. Maybe they just HAVE to take one sometimes. :dontgetit:
  3. I just did a terror mission the other day. it was pretty brutal. after I charred the map I took my hovertank out for a patrol and I found a handfull of civilians taking refuge on a roof of a 2 story building.. the aliens made them worry, but when the x-com craft landed they didn't want to take any chances!
  4. for the most part I use tin opener, but only on the big ships.. I don't really send in guys thru the hole.. just more bombs.
  5. I'll have to remember all this next time I play... I think I have a snakeman base waiting around.
  6. I like to give the floaters a lesson in bliztkrieg tactics..
  7. vatican base.. hmmm never thought of that.. I think the nazis tried that too.
  8. I've been using heavy plasme for the most part, but late in the game I'll give my high TU Stormtroopers a laser pistol.. I leave the left hand empty to start so I can just put whatever I want into it without wasting time moving things around.. when dealing with sectoids at close range, to me it adds style to whip out the ol pistola to the back of the head..
  9. Well guys, a few weeks ago I started a new game at veteran diffaculty ( a little out of practice) it's oct 1999 on the game now, and for the last 3-4 months now it has been nothing but muton scouts! except for that muton battleship that wiped out a base before I could blink!! I sure could go for a nice floater misssion.. I haven't seen them yet!! I was wondering.. has any of you guys ever shared a game with someone else? as in having seperate squads/bases?? I just spent thanksgiving with a good x-com chum, and he wanted go get in on my file. Now I'm back home and half of my stuff is all his creation, soldier names, gear. It's kinda neat, but sooner or later there will be no trace of his stuff! hehe.

You know those red guys on The return of the jedi?? those are the Imperial guards I was thinking of.
  12. I take pride in making sure every square inch of the map is glassed, I mean hey it's called a TERROR mission right?

mine are a lot like ya'lls Medic (high time units and stamina)<power suit Stormtooper (seargant with 70+ firing accuracy)<power suit Psi trooper (usually a promoted stormtrooper)<power suit Chunks (heavy weapons)<power suit Imperial Guard (those out of this world super dudes) usually only 1 or 2.. they are the lucky ones with flying suits. everybody else has personal armor, but I fire the ones with less than 60 firing accuracy.....
  14. " A little revolution now and then is healthy" from a movie. I don't mind seeing my team get juiced, just as long as it is every 4-5 missions. I like to hang onto my medics if at all possible, later on they become my "uber soldiers".

    UFO

I had just bought my first playstation, and my best friend and I were way into renting games. we saw x-com and thought a strategy game would be cool, but we didn't grasp the whole time units and fog of war deal at first and it sat on the floor for a few days. we worked together, and completed a mission. we rented the game for 3 months before actually buying it. we took turns on missions, had our own bases and teams. with no instuction booklet we sort of made up names for everything small scout = chiklet (the square 5 cent gum) meduim scout = cross abductor=big mac harvester=whopper sectoid= greys silacoid=cruton (it's crunchy and rhymes with muton) celatoid=kidney bean ehterial base= massacre reaper= Bjorn (my dog's name) I prefer the sony version, but you have to save the game a lot because itfreezes sometimes. usually on battleship missions. eventually 4 of us would get together and take turns on missions.. but it took a while for my best friend and I to teach others how to play and we refuse to do it anymore.. we had a lot of fun figureing it out, it's better that way. man.. our girlfriends hated it when we played.. there was only one gril that liked to watch.
  16. My first base is usually on the island in the black sea.. don't think it's a real island tho.. in x-com it is. I can keep a lot of countries happy, then I put a base in texas.. later if austrailia is around, like I said, I turn it into a no fly zone. I just had a thought.. if you fire a fusion ball at one of those very small UFO's.. does it really make an impact?? I could see the poor schmuck in the ufo trying to out run it, and just get absorbed my a huge ball.. wouldn't it just fuel the chain reaction going on there, and just spit out some tin foil and fly on forever??
  17. does middle earth have paladins?
  18. Is there a country that you just love, and breaks your heart when it cuts funding?? Example: Austraila is cut off and isolated. just for fun I like to put avengers with plasma AND fusion ball launchers on it. If any UFO's come near it I blow it up with EXTREME prejuduce!!!
  19. if you don't care about the date in which you complete the game, just stockplie stuff. go to cydonia with a bang.. Honestly I've never looked at the date when I launch to cydonia, but I bet it's ridiculous.
  20. Name: Sven Katka Calsign: Red Backgound: Sven grew up near the black forest in germany did a lot of hunting in his youth. After studying mathematics for 3 years in college he droped out to become a NATO combat aviator. After x-com was made he joined x-com as a soldier. He is a good pilot and tactician hopes to prove himself. sven respects his superoirs and salutes his victories. He also collects trophies of every kill. Strength:average stamina: average Speed: Flaming Agility: even more flaming Inteligence:genius Mental: very reserved. rarely speaks. Psi: average bravey: that of a tutonic Knight. controller: Mirage Here's what's been changed and why... He can't possibly have joined XCom as a pilot. The pilots have already been assigned and spoken for. Also he can't have had any kills at all as XCom is still in it's infancy. No attacks have been launched. He is a direct descendant of no aces from WW1. The characters we use in the fic must be balanced to provide a good story. Flying suits don't exist yet! Until you have read the entire fic you are not permitted to write in this fic as you clearly have no idea what is happening. Also the statistics you have given this character are extremely high. We have absolutely NO superheroing in this fic so no matter how good you want your guy to be you must remember that there are many other people who are part of this fic. You should read this thread and figure out who they are before you reply in this thread. Sorry if this all sounds a bit harsh Mirage, don't get me wrong I'm glad to have a new writer here. It's just that we do have a lot of people writing in this fic and everyone must follow the same guidelines. I wrote some guidelines and they are in this forum. I suggest you find them while you're reading through the fic and the character profiles. I should have been more clear.. I'm sorry you didn't like my character, but I'm not interseted in the fan fic.. I should have made that clear. sven is a NPC in one the games I'm running with some friends.. and he IS a direct decendant of ernst udet!!!!!
  21. I've been thinking of what a x-com movie would start out like.. I think I would be something like this.. An air force AWACS patrol aircraft finds something wierd on a radar screen.. most likely over the ocean hauling A$$ too... navy carrier jets are scrambled and after a few jets are blown up and some fancy areobatics (I've read the red barons' biography. so I could visualize this in my head reall good) some navy pilot lands a few lucky shots.. meanwhile navy seals are gearing up and being sent to the area in a sea kinghelicopter (x-com does not exsit yet) by true dumb luck the ufo lands on a island or some land mass near the carrier and the seal team goes in and gets wasted.. only one or two survivors.. but aleins and artifacts are obtained.. the world community then makes x-com and starts pumpinng $$ into making skyrangers and recruting new soldiers from all over. new tactics are employed.. most of the soldiers are like the guys with red shirts from star treck... but a few rise from the ranks (like starship troopers) nick jones.. virgil, astra, jungo, isao etc.. etc.. I also think some of the interceptor pilots should be involved in it also.. throw a little bit of top gun into it.. in the begining soldiers and pilots belive in notions of honor, but later get bitter and pessimistic when their buddies are blown up by blaster bombs and shot down by battle ships. morale is boosted later with the dicovery of PSI amps, and ufo construction. some governments eventualy get parinoid of x-com's abilities and cut funding to go at it on their own, or get infiltrated. lets say for dramatic effect america or some close ally is taken over.. big bummer.. rashes of abductions and city wide terror sprees.. and in a last ditch gamble x-com gathers what is has left and heads of to cydoina.. only a hand full of lucky troops make it back. I recall the first time I beat the game .. I had two guys knocked out.. and another 2-3 under alien control, but I had one guy with 3 fatal wounds, out of ammo in the control room.. that one grenade he had left was all I needed. I bought the x-com colectors editon a while back.. on the inside flap there was a one page comic strip.. real neat.. is there a x-com comic?? Mirage
  22. if there is a movie, I wonder if they will have characters named virgil gallagher, nick jones.. etc.. etc..
  23. I fire any soldier that has less than 60 shooting accuracy... no matter what wait no.. if they have really good time units and stamina I might make him/her a medic.
  24. my philosphy on terror missions is simple. be more terrorizing than the aliens!! even if it means a few civilians get in the way!!! I don't bother with motion scanners.. maybe if I was on superhuman and was being super conservative.. but I like a suprise every now and then.
  25. I like Dr. Pepper so much I call it Elerium 115 the supply ship stratigey works well they have tons of it.. if you get REALLy lucky (it's only happened to me once) you might get a landed terror ship.. with no terror mission
