  1. fireworks. aliens also celebrate new year. and the reaon you never saw one is they already blew it up in flight.
  2. tihis is a sasquatch thread. it appears and disappears, nobody is shure if it really exists and all videos are shaky and you can barely make out hairy things. (hum...so the sasquatch movies could just be some sixties porno...)
  3. I think you could actually order it the normal way. I think by now the actual game price shouldn't exceed the shipping to far.
  4. The only thing I may add to this is that I absolutly love apoc.
  5. I'd say ethereals because....nah you all know the reasons and they're posted here a hundred times. hum...onc I had this woman wasting three cyberdisks in a warehouse just with a normal rifle. ok it was in easy mode and I used reload imortallity but at least it proves that it can be done.
  6. As far as I'm concerned the enzyme damaged my units directly wehn it got trough their suits.
  7. Yes to me too, but they say they want to use it to makes crowds disappear. (wrong word I know, but I didn't know the vocab. But I thing you can get the meaning.)
  8. I normally build plasma tanks, because they can be used in close combat and neyr of my men also. Just like alex does just my eggheads get blaster launchers.
  9. I said terror. Ufo was challenging and apoc in real time was fun, but not very hard. BUT TFTD! Sonic pistols killing with one hit, lobstermen, bidrones, tentaculants, giant maps AND EVERY TIME THAT F*****G LAST ALIEN IN THESE BLOODY CONTAINER SHIPS!! I really hate last aliens.
  10. I normally secure every entrance of an ufo with one or two of my men while the rest sweeps the surrounding area. When the area is clear, I storm the ufo, securing every passage by a team of two before I send through another team to secure the end of the passage. Then the first team gets in front of the first and so on. I seldom use normal and alien grenades. When I got one and it's usefull in the situation when not, I don't care and use guns. I never use smoke-, proxy nades and rocket launchers im just doing well without them. But I absolutly love blaster launchers.
  11. really? But I think this could be just an impression produced by the position of reporting journalists and the camera angle. They normally stand behind the police lines so on the tapes you see the backs of two or three officers and twenty or more rioters/protestors. But I'm not well informed about recent uk history so maybe they just didn't had that experience of massive protests and streetfights in the 60's 70's and 80'S. But to get back on topic. I've read for usage in iraq theyre also developing a microwave device that causes some kind of sunburn.
  12. Hmm I'll add some of my experiencesto this thread. First the police often outnumbers the protestors/rioters. At least here in germany. (Example: Last year on the antirassistic noborder camp in cologne they used 1200 officers in riot gear, two waterguns (is this the english word?), a ground fire fight device and a Räumpanzer (something like a heavy armoured bulldozer) to storm a camp with 800 peacefull people in it.) Throwing the Teargas back is normally no problem for the police forces because they have gas masks. ( But german police is more into circling&hitting anyway.) The main problem is it's flight direction cant be controlled. If the cloud hits the protesters/rioters they run, but it often doesn't. So it has much "collateral dammge" in urban areas. Also you can protect yourself quite well&easy from it. (I won't say how so that the admins get no legal issues.) Another one is that teargas makes aggressive and has that beating a hornets nest effect. And rubber bullets are really tough shit. The foot of a person I know was completly ruined by them, when it was hit by four in a chain. But this is all better than catching you a real bullet.
  13. hum...When I go to a base I bring loads of blasterbombs and a hovertank with me. The hover tank scouts and two or three blaster people nuke everything from the elevators. Early in the game, when blaster bombs are not avilable, I just let my squad, normally 6-8 men, move in a group and have a group of two secure every passageway leading to the groups position. (But getting through this bunker in which the control-room is, is quite anoying without blaster bombs.)
  14. BLASTER LAUNCHERS ALL THE WAY!!! I'm a addict to the tactic jellyfishgreen stated above. And blaster Launchers are great all purpose weapons. (If you have atleast two guys equipped with them and nothing but bombs) Cleraing LZ: Let your other guys shoot any alien right in front of the exit of your landing vehicel, than nuke the surrounding area. (Does even a better job than smoke nades) Long range combat: Just nuke them. In building combat. Leave building, nuke it. Close combamt: You just don't get into close combat. Except when you are in a landed ufo and want to save the power units. For any other purpose have a hover tank scout out the area, and when it spots an alien nuke it from the other side of the map. Alien base: Stay in the elevators and nuke it. (Have a tank scouting) Terror mission: Nuke around. Watch out a bit that you don't kill too much civlians. I absolutly love that things. And for defending my own base and around intact power units I use heavy plasma.
  15. I normally use avalanche/stingray or dual avalanche in the early game. Because the cannon has such a short range, my interceptors get often destroyed when trying to down a ufo with it.
  16. hum....space whales...dunno if they can evolve. but I think if mankind lasts long enuogh they will be created.... Maybe I should have stopped drinking beer around yesterday.....
  17. Thats the one ultimate way to end an argument. *fetches beer too* And my advise to some people around here (including myself) is not to take some things to seriously. edit: Had this adress as a link in this post, but the site blocks linking specific images. copy&paste this one in your search bar when you want to see what happened while the probe observed the skies... http://fun.drno.de/pics/english/freemars.jpg
  18. I don't like the idea of powersuits. Not because if anything technical, but who will use it? I mean what will it be used for? To me it seems to be just usefull in urban combat. I mean in open battlefields you have some heavy artillery firing clusterbombs and that was it with powersuit infantery. But in urban combat, combat who? A terrorist organisation every now and then? Enemy troops? Both of this will happen, but I think not quite often. But if you think about it powersuits are perfect for controlling your own population. (If you happen to be a state of course.) Those things are just screaming anti riot police force. But before I start a dicussion wether the leaders of germany, britain or the usa a just a bunch of bloodsucking murderers who would sell their own grandmas or some nice people who work hard well-being of their populations, let's consider Saudi-arabia gets those things. (And it will. It's rich and it's got perfect relation with the usa.) They'd equip a special force with that stuff, that now could really beat the shit out of any demonstrant, cristian emmigrant or women which don't wear the burka. Those things would take ANY (as far they are existing) advantage from opressed people who want to raise against their government. You want food? Here you get a mechanically enforced kick in the groin!
  19. Just my opinion but it sucks as a action game too. It's no challenge. If it haden't x-com typed on it I would consider it to be kids software (Which the publishers must be considering it too. In my version there are adverts for toddler edutainment in the instalation routine.). I mean a Autoaiming function in a game where you could hardly throw a brick without hitting an enemy. It's just good if you need a breakfiller, or want to do take personal revenge for suffering in Ufo . *Could keep on bitching around about enforcer for hours but thinks everyone has heard this before, and so shuts up*
  20. No the holy war will start like this: I think Chryssalids are lousy shit and easy to kill.
  21. My tanks normally survive cyerdiscs, Alien nades and blaster bombs because the aliens don't use it the right way. If not no problem, it's replacable and normally it gives my men enough time and safety to cler the LZ. (at least on easy) The look through windows thingy does not only work for tanks. I normally use my men at the back of my dropship to scout out the area. You can even look behind the cockpit by sending them on the very rear end of the dropship. Then Blaster bombs do a good job even on the veeeery hot LZs. But ok I wont start a holy war about smoke nades, it's everyones own decission wether to use it or not. (And don't use it! Because if you do I'll come over and punch you in the face! )
  22. Neorpasta wrote: I don't actually think it to be it in a official manner. But as far as I'm concerned a dimension is something in which something else can exist, and the position of something else inside something can be given as a number. With this definition time could be a fourth dimension but it don't has to be. But I'm actually not doing basic physics so if someone does and knows better please tell me. In general you can say that dimension number five (four if time not counted) which is the lenght and grammatical complexity of the sentence is highly influenced by dimension number six (five) and seven (six) which happen to be my bad english and my lazyness. But personally i'd agree with petes definition of dimension number four, because his one seems to explain many thigs that happen and that time can't explain. I don't think I unterstand the how the universe works, but I think I know that fiction don't has to work exactly the same. And I also think I know that the story behind x-com is quite strange. But if you have a different opinion on this we should disuss that in another thread. To get back on topic: Enforcer sucks. Thank you.
  23. Shure I'm only about this game. (and apoc) In real life and other games I made the experience that they are kick-ass. But at least I seem to be unable to use them properly. (Except for killing stung gas/fire in A). I mean hiding, sneaking and attacking silently out of the dark is the aliens part. When I come to a mission site, especially terror, the aliens have spread all over the place, have lain ambushes, they know who I am, they know where I am and are ready to punch me where it hurts. So my tactic is to have my (wo)men go around in small groups and kill them as fast as possible. I made the experience that smoke can rise ones chance of survival for one turn, but it lowers it on a long task, as it takes longer to find the alien and make it unable to attack one. To get back on topic: my missions went badly wrong, especially in early stages of the game, when aliens where near my dropship. I solved this with a tank. A bit more expensive than a smoke granade, but capable of multiple usage.
  24. does anyone? and in apoc too I just recognised them only helping the aliens. maybe it's because they should cover a retreat and I never retreat (except for single baaaaaadly wounded soldiers)
  25. I agree that enforcer sucks. But not because it doesn't fit the storyline well. I mean just look at the main storyline stuff in the games until enforcer. So we have: -Roswell -an Alien invasion -loads of Aliens while nearly all the main ones tend to have humanoid shape. (Why? I mean they evolved in enviroments completly differnt to earth's. And even on earth the only creatures with humanoid shape are we and a bunch of apes.) -pyramids and remainings of a million years old civilisation at the cydonian mars face. (WTF is it a human face anyway when it was build by some weird old Aliens?) -a million years old alien colony ship, which's landing/crash in the gulf of Mexico killed the dinosaurs. -if this ship could be reactivated why wasn't it used in AW1? -auqatic, reptilian ancestors of mankind who coorperate with the aliens and are humanoid shaped too. (as science knows today the real aquatic reptilian ancestors of mankind and all mammals looked like some kind of newts.) -PSI powers -MC powers -a stable 115th element with magic powers :hmmm: -Zr'bite -interstellar travel which exceeds lightspeed -parallel universes -one of them accesable through a black hole (and just existing to keep a sun some ships and bases and the doomsday weapon. I mean a universe just as big as a solar system. Temperatures exceeding a few million kelvin and the impossibility for existance of anything bigger then a proton anyone? ) -nova bombs -tachyon cannons which beams a visible. ( A tachyon by definition, is an particle which gets faster as lower it energy potential gets, and which's energy potential would have to get infinite if it SLOWED DOWN to lightspeed. btw, can anyone explain me why this would affect a ships system? call me consevative, but I'd use good old EMP) -aliens from other dimensions being HUMAN SHAPED -other dimensions in which objects from our four dimensional room (width, height, depth, time) can exist, without even being changed. (ok you can discuss with me about this. Maybe the changes in the four dimensional fashioned sense organs of my soldiers would compensate the other dimensions effects in actual perception.) Vice versa for ufos and Aliens. -ships trying to pass over in that dimension being destroyed by antimatter implosions (wtf?) -the possibility to produce ships of normal matter which are not destroyed by antimatter implosions -micronids -disruptor beams -ME owning the biggest military force within a city that could be invented by george orwell without the ability to kick the governments ass. To me a professor creating a uber-robot with stupid weapos who is capable of fighting of great alien hordes and a mothership without being recognised seem to fit the general scenery quite well. In general you could summarize the whole X-com storyline with a great DOUBLE-U TE EF QUESTION MARK. I'm just waiting for the firedragons to fly by. But don't missunderstand me. I absolutly love these games and I can't stand enforcer. But not for one being realistic and the other not. I love X-com 1-4 for their well developed and complex storyline (realism is not the point for me when coming to storys), their atmosphere and depth, their intellectual challange and their action and I hate enforcer for being dumb, boring and totally screwed.
