  1. If I remember correctly, you can use the prone position in Apocalypse. In fact you can crawl in Apocalypse! I just thought that was the coolest thing ever!
  2. Somewhere aroumd 30 rounds. I asked this same question when I first came aboard.
  3. I fought the sectoids at my base, East Point, and it worked! With some brillant tactics and only four casualties I beat them! There have been no more attacks against East Point!
  4. Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I don't use plasma weapons. Anyone can win with good enough weapons. But to win with inferior weapons, funds and men really takes strategy. Speaking of hating ethreals, I remember a time when they attacked a base of mine. I had 10 soldiers. They mind controlled all but one. Killed them. Then stormed up the to the upper level and killed the last guy. All in three turns. [starts having flashbacks to the horrors.]

    Troubles

Help, my Apocalypse men won't heal. My medbay is only at sixty percent but they won't heal. Also I need some quick cash to build aircraft.
  6. Danke. Very informative! Thank you. I think I'll just try and fend off an actual assault. See what happens.
  7. I suppose you are right. The reason I brought it to your attention is that it has been happening with such frequency lately. I suppose I will just deal with it though. Maybe my luck will change back to "seldom" crashes as opposed to the now "frequent" crashes.
  8. The title says it all. Often, when I end a turn in battle, it just crashes. I have the X-Com Collecters Edition. I use Windows 98.
  9. I have a base that is attacked nearly constantly almost every week. I'll shoot down the U.F.Os before they land but they just keep coming! How can I stop this?
  10. I actually got a Commander from one of those little dinky U.F.Os. It was pure luck. Shot one of the Ethereals, knocked him out. Turned out he was a Commander! Has this happened to anyone else? By the way, this was on P.C. and I still got Cydonia or Bust.
  11. I recently saw in Weekly World News that the sectoids came to earth just eat Krispy Kreme doughnuts! I guess Krispy Kreme's greatness is known throughtout the universe! And to think that we started a war against them. Tsk tsk tsk.
  12. Das ist richt. I have been on this board for awhile. I'm just a seldom poster. Anyway, back in the day someone posted a topic entitled 'Do Sectoids Exist? And Other Queries.' I posted the real probabilities of space life. Then I gave my theory on what I believe to be the actual cause of RUFOs. I also posted saying that anyone interested in what the over 500 requirements for life are can private message me. People then replied that I was close-minded and did not research the topic (I believe I also said to them about how I researched the topic for years. I may not have told them though. I'm not sure). Out of the 10-20 people who posted in the topic not one asked to see the requirements for life. I had other online debates (in every single one I was accused of being close-minded) where people commited libel and slander. In the Cryptozoology.com forum is a Creation versus Evolution topic. In it is over 1000 topics. Someone there does not want to give up. My point is that on-line you cannot win debates. Especially if you are the only one defending your position going up against 30 some people. I have won nearly every debate I have been in "off-line". I could go on but I won't. So you are right, Shades of Green, there is no no need to start a flame war.
  13. What about us guys with the Collecters Edition? Is possible for us to rifle butt sectoids?
  14. If I had to pick between a ship full of sectoids and ship full of floaters. I would rather face the floaters. Even sectoids by themselves are more dangerous than floaters. I don't care what the stats say. I have more trouble with sectoids than floaters. There was one time when my soldiers (veterans and rookies) were going after a ship full of sectoids. After killing all but one sectoid they started getting shot off. I found out that the last one was in the vicinity of a two-level farm house. I sent some soldiers over there and they got shot. So I decided to have a soldier sneak over to the building to view the sectoid and kill it. Well the sectoid killed him. Fortunatly one of my men shot the sectoid with a laser rifle, but it didn't kill him. Instead the sectoid shot him. Now I have my remaning soldiers obliterate the farm house and the fields around it with high-explosives. This didn't kill the sectoid. He just decides to shoot another one of my soldiers. So I now have no choice but to fire blindly into the smoke and have the other soldier perforate what's left of the farm house. This doesn't work. The sectoid kills another soldier of mine. Now I decide to have my last soldier R.L.H it of there and go to the skyranger. Mission over. I have more tales of horror like that concerning sectoids. Only one with floaters. That one had rookies with rifles that had little ammunition going up against a medium craft full of floaters at night.
  15. I tend to spread my forces in groups of two. If an alien is spotted my troops will concentrate fire on that one alien. Even if they are on the other side of the map.
  16. If you have read my "Causlties" topic you'll see that I lost one base. Here's how it happened: I was doing an awsome job of shooting down U.F.O.s when they discovered my base. This was the first time in the game that a base of mine was attacked, and it was attacked by Ethereals. The first turn all but one my soldiers get either shot, blown up or mind controlled. The last soldier was on the upper level. He goes down the stairs and is immedietly shot by a waiting Ethereal. Shortest mission I have ever had.
  17. Okay! I'm back! My computer died and I lost everything! Except X-Com! I backed up my X-Com files! They were the only things that could fit on a floppy. So here's an updated casulties list: Sectoids: 111 captured 3 Cyberdiscs: 12 captured 1 Floaters: 213 captured 5 Reapers: 4 captured 2 Snakemen: 54 Chrysalids: 8 Sectopods: 18 captured 1 Ethereals: 51 captured 5 Two being leaders Mutons: 130 captured 9 Celatids: 10 Silacoids: 7 U.F.O.s shotdown 82 Bases destroyed: 7 Total Aliens Killed: 618 Total Captured: 26 X-Com Ops: 339 M.I.A. 7 Rocket Tanks: 7 Cannon Tanks: 3 Interceptors: 2 Skyrangers: 9 Bases: 1 Civs: 150 Pacts: China, Japan, South Africa, Brazil, Canada, U.S.A., U.K.
  18. Yeah. I say so in the very first post.
  19. Well you say it in the very first sentences of this thread, it go like this "Since I am currently unable to play X-Com" Rocksk, it sounds like you are talking to me. Am I right?
  20. First off I would just like to say that I played it with just human technology with the exception of alien alloys, U.F.O. technology, mind probes and Small Launchers. The way I was able to keep track of the casulties was simple. Say I go to a terror site. Upon exiting the Interceptor I immedietly encounter sectoids. Knowing that sectoids always travel with cyberdiscs I would talley each kill of a cyberdisc I get. When the mission is over I read the alien kills and subtract from that the cyberdisc kills. Then tally everything else. Which ends up to alot of tally marks! When my brother saw it he said X-Com would have to start hiring old men and children!
  21. Since I am currently unable to play X-Com I will send you my casulties list now. This is about 2 or 3 years into the game. I never reloaded no matter what. Sectoids: 92 killed 3 captured Cyber Discs: 10 killed one captured Floaters: 171 killed 5 captured Reapers: 4 killed 2 captured Snakemen 44 killed Chrysalids 4 killed Sectopods 9 killed Ethereals 28 killed 5 captured 2 being leaders Mutons 31 killed 4 captured Celatid 1 killed Silacoid 1 killed 36 U.F.O.s destroyed and salvaged 2 bases destroyed Total 395 killed 20 captured X-Com Ops: 248 killed 6 M.I.A. Rocket Tanks: 4 destroyed Cannon Tanks 2 destroyed Interceptors: 2 destroyed Skyrangers: 8 lost Civilians: 102 killed Cities: 8 destroyed 1 X-Com base destroyed China,Japan and South Africa made pacts with the aliens. There you have it. I wish I could hve listed which cities were destroyed, but oh well. I would be interested to see the casultie lists from you X-Com vetereans out there.
  22. Definetly etherals. Any alien who can take one my bases in 4 turns deserves to be hated and feared.
  23. I prefer aimed and snap. I only use auto if the alien is at very close range, ( ever have a soldier miss at point range with auto-shot? I have.) or there are multiple aliens in a small space. It seems to me that when you have a soldier use aimed shot they are more likely to get a "critical hit". So that's my shot of choice.

    X-Com fixed

This is weird. You know my blank screen problem? Well it turns out that I can fix it by running any game then exiting it. Can anyone explain why this works?
