  1. There is work going on Tucky. Kinda. Veteran's trying to get his texture of the Geoscope to look better and more realistic (He mentioned it in http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/index...=0entry66174). I suggested to him to look for someone with good Adobe Photoshop experience. That's about all I've heard on the artistic level of the Geoscope. I don't know anything on the programming side of things though.
  2. Pretty low on the IQ level I happen to have downloaded TFTD a long while back. (Somewhere last year) and I noticed whilst playing the game just how STUPID the Lobstermen in the game can be. Note that the game happens to be on the beginner level. Now, Lobstermen usually turn up on a shipping mission when they first appear in the game. When playing on that mission. One of my soldiers came across one at the front of the ship on the deck. (Second level) and, of course, I fired at it. Suddenly, the lobsterman fires a S***load of sonic rounds at my soldier, followed by GAS rounds (YES, Gas rounds, the ones from the Dart gun and gas rifles from X-Com soliders in the game) and then went back to sonic rounds and then shot a load of missiles and then fired a massive S***load of sonic rounds before it stopped finally. The amount of time it took to wait was enough for me to go downstairs into the kitchen, make a cup of tea, bring it up stairs to my room, drink it and take it back downstairs to put by the washing and come back and wait for another ten minutes to finally be able to do anything about it. And the most funny thing is. It completely missed my soldier. They didn't get hit ONCE!!!! Since then, I've had a couple more situations like that, but, because they took LONGER then the previous scenario, it usually ended up with me rebooting my computer because it was taking so long. And I have Windows XP. ------------------------------------------ This next thing is also on a shipping mission. When I enter the kitchen area. I found about 3 lobstermen in there with 1 civi. I was able to save the civi. But one of the lobstermen went into the FREEZER in the kitchen and I had to send a soldier in there just to kill it. It wasn't coming out for anything.
  3. In my opinion, if you want a small, lightweight pistol, go for a Glock 17. Its small, most of it is made out of plastic so it hardly weighs anything and its got a 17-bullet clip. Its also got 3 safeties and it is very reliable. But if its sheer stopping power you want. Go for a Magnum.
  4. Hi! This is Alan (AlanatXcomHQ on the forums around here.) I'm currently helping out the project by supplying in some much needed concept work. I live in the South-east of London in England and I'm currently 19 years of age. I'm in my 3rd year of Sixth Form at the moment and later in September of 2006 will be going to the University of Greenwich to study a games design course. I decided to help out in the art section as I happen to have achieved a B grade for my Art A Level. I've recently being working with Flash in my illustrations on the net. If anyone is interested in some of my work. (All of it is not X-com related anyway. ) head over to http://rosohryu.deviantart.com/ Its my Deviantart page. Hope to talk to some of the other members soon.
  5. All the alien races rely on the Alien Brain, if I remember right. It dies, they die. Which is pretty idiotic if you're anyone except the Brain. Without that psionic connection, which all the alien races have, they die. Or perhaps this was revised in later games? Not exactly. The brain controls the sectoids and the ethereals. The sectoids and ethereals control the other aliens on the earth. Sectopods and Mutons rely on Ethereals on the battlefield. Not the brain. I don't think the brain has enough power to influence the aliens on earth. Otherwise, why would the aliens have bases on the earth in the game? Also, in TFTD there isn't any psionics, there's only MC to use. Molecular control is not psionics. Interceptor follows UFO in terms of leadership whist in Apocalypse the aliens are controlled by the micronoid organisms.
  6. Yes, the UFOpedia does say that, but they rely on the Ethereals. If the telepathic connection is stopped. Their mental system breaks down and they die. Yes, they are intelligent, but only as long as they are connected to Ethereals.
  7. That does sound pretty cool. But its got me wondering. Could you specify on the alien types? So that I can dig up some source material from the games to work with. That would be great, thanks.
  8. I was looking through the UFOpedia of the first game, looking up for some source material on Mutons so I could do sketches. Anyway, I was reading the UFOpedia description and I noticed as to how they had cybernetic upgrades to their bodies. Looking at other aliens, some of them had cybernetics as well. But what got me was the fact that Mutons had armour plating in a skin suit with cybernetics underneath. Now, I don't know why no-one else has thought of it. But wouldn't it make Mutons a bit like terminators? (The ones from the Terminator films if you are wondering.)
  9. It does sound interesting. But my main questions would have to be: 1 - How far do you go on Human types? (White, black, brown, chinese, etc, etc) 2 - How far do you go on Armour? 3 - How far have you got on Alien types? 4 - And finally, how big is the Research tree? (UFOpedia) I mainly deal with characters and clothing, I'm not that great with backgrounds or weapons. Its possible to make a basic UFOpedia, but, I can't do animaton yet, but I can mark out where certain content go on a UFOpedia entry. I'm also good at lending suggestions. Such as, if for example, there was an entry on a weapon, would there be an animation for the weapon spinning 360 degrees in a continous loop with small animations (Like in UFO Aftermath) of examples of the weapon firing, research being done and so on. I can't do those animations, but I can mark out where they go on the entry. I can also lend suggestions on the graphic user Interface in Geoscope or Tactical. Like, can you actually minimise the interface to see more of whats going on in the screen? Stuff like that.
  10. I've only done the prologue and the first chapter of my fic so far, but I'm working on the 2nd chapter right now. Its called X-com: X-Genesis and takes place 2000 years after X-com: Apocalypse. I've placed it over at fanfiction.net if anyone wants to read it over there. But here it is anyway. X-COM X-Genesis Prelude: Year 4067: Humanity has lived amongst the stars for nearly 2000 years. The Earth, Humanity's birthplace, was abandoned. With the incident of the Alien Dimension invading the last hope of life on Earth, Mega-Primus, no-one felt safe anymore. Humanity left Earth. Colonised other worlds and lived in space. And Humanity was always safe, because of one Organisation was dedicated to keep them safe. X-COM The eXtra-terrestrial-COMbat unit. Created to help fight the Aliens that were hell-bent on destroying humanity and taking Earth. But X-COM had fought them so hard that the 2nd Alien War had devastated Earth. Turned it into a worldwide wasteland with very little left to rebuild. However, after nearly 2000 years of decay since humanity left Earth, GSC scientists monitoring the Earth noticed renewed life on the surface and quickly dispatched a team of scientists and soldiers to find the source of this renewed life. But they were never heard of once they touched down. Chapter 1: 13 Years later: Space News from Gamma Hydra 5
  11. Hey there! Heard you might need some more people. I'm pretty good with 2D art. I use Flash to improve on my pencil sketchings. I don't know how good this piece of info is but, in September of 2006, I'm gonna be going to Uni to study on a Games Design course. So I might be able to help out in that respect. (But later of course)
  12. In my case, I've been playing the game in Safe Mode (This disables the sound) to get (enable_system_console=true) to actually work, you have to set "true" to "TRUE" See, I copied the "Play in Safe Mode" icon and pasted it onto my desktop, then I went to the properties and found the command line. In the command line, it had values added at the end such as: --options use_safe_refresh=TRUE use_shaders=FALSE old_va_mode=TRUE scale_texs=2 nosound=TRUE I simply pasted the enable_system_console=true in and made it: --options use_safe_refresh=TRUE use_shaders=FALSE old_va_mode=TRUE scale_texs=2 nosound=TRUE enable_system_console=TRUE (English, Retail version of Aftershock of WinXP) As for opening the console, ' is the symbol. If you don't know it eg: DON(')T That symbol in the bracket for DON'T is what you're looking for.
