To be honest I'm not too fussed about the expense as long as they can provide. I have had a lot of trouble with BT in other areas I have to say. I'm not sure I would go back to them unless a contract was written out in a shareholders blood.

Is there a half decent ISP for broadband accessable to the UK 'cos if there is I haven't found them yet. I'm going for a world record I think. Changed yet again and up to now I haven't had any email. No, still doesn't work. The message is the same and on every boot it repeats the message. I tried the same without the disk in and the same message appears. I'm wondering if the CD isn't reading correctly. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Cheers Kret - I was trying to install a new copy of windows XP onto a hard drive that previously had been a slave drive. The disc is formatted but has no windows on it. Jumpers are set to Master, and in the bios I set 1st boot up to CD. My plan was to use this machine just for the internet so I have taken out the HD that has the OS installed and replaced it with this smaller HD.

I wonder why that was?

Whilst on the subject of PC problems, I have just tried a fresh boot of another machine. After booting from XP disc I get the message 'NTLDR missing, restarting'. What the hell is NTLDR? I can't boot this machine as this just goes round on a loop.

The odd thing is I have never had to go through this in the past. (but then again I only changed to XP about eight months ago) Even on the disc manager the damn thing didn't show. Cheers Slaughter, that's got it. Now to fill it up!!!

I've just fitted a new hard drive and I can't get the thing to work properly. It's an IDE and it's the third one but I have set it as Secondary Master on the jumpers which I assume is the correct setting. The bios seems happy with it, Windows XP Hardware Profile says it's working correctly but it still doesn't show up in the file structure. Am I missing something? Does it have to be formatted as it's a master? The odd thing is when I shove a used HD in there it shows up no trouble. Any suggestions?

If you consider that most of the powerful countries of the world have their own 'Special Forces' you would think that they would be the best to deal with such a threat. The British SAS train most of the worlds SF so most of them have the same equipment and tactics. In Germany you have a similar force, I thinks it's called G9. By their own admittion, Special Forces are not trained or equiped for offensive work. That is what the regular army are for. In the First Alien War the regular armies, navies and airforces came off second best and the only force capable of resisting the aliens was the one that saw it coming and were prepared. XCOM. When a second war breaks out - who better to combat the threat than XCOM. Once it has been rebuilt it will once again be the best hope. Trouble is, at this point - few are ready to admit there is a problem. History shows that humans pay little attention to what has gone before. If only politicians read history books they would see that the past is a manual of 'what to expect next'. Politicians being stupid and unemployable in any other walk of life are just the worse people to have running a country. Yeah, when the watsit hits the fan the police with have new orders on how to react to the new menace but except for being issued with those otherwise illegal dum-dum bullets there is little they can do. I concur, it's just that in the game some of the Terror Attacks take place in what could only be described as 'Warm' areas. But as there were only three battle scapes we can discount that in the Fan Fic. I would think that the tail end of the Gulf Stream would be a popular place for the Aliens too so the area west of Scotland should see some activity. The idea of the aliens coming out of the water on a regular basis is doubtful so I agree, best if we keep them submerged as much as is convenient.
