What if one wanted to play the free-download version of XCom on Windows 7. Can that be done? Because right now I'm getting the intro movie sounds on a black screen.

So, how exactly can this game be played? I can get a collector's pack, but will that work?

The game slows down when the fighter reaches the ufo, the view zooms in, and after a few seconds in which my cursor is gone, it reverts back and the fighter is still chasing the ufo. Basically, the interception does not take place, or takes place too quickly, consistent with bladefirelight's warning about his patch. except that I get the same problem without that patch installed, after simply changing the executable name. I don't have a credit card, so I can't buy from steam, because I would be sorely tempted to do so. STill, I prefer my free game, especially if I can fix it for vista.

I have managed to get rid of the black screen at startup by changing the name of the exe file into ufo defense.exe. but interceptions don't work. CAN SOMEONE ADVISE ME??

It doesn't seem to work for me. I have the gold edition that you can get for free. Can someone give me a few hints on installing this sucker with the fix on vista?

I tried again by attacking Martians and I eventually did get the required research. I'm not sure if I just forgot about that or if it's an actual issue. Anyway, I have another question (sorry if I'm becoming tedious): Is there any other type of open armor, beside light? Has someone ever researched/produced it? Because I've never seen it.

Can someone make a mod so that they work more like in Aftershock

Okay, first I'd like to know if they are worth using. I never got the hang of them in Aftershock. Secondly, I can't seem to find a way to build the group cloak. Where is it in the production menu? In the glossary is is under Alien devices (WHY??), But it doesn't appear in the production menu. And there's another thing. There is NOTHING else in the glossary under alien devices. No psionic healing device, no Martian robot control device, nothing. Is that fixable? Finally, I'd like to know what it takes to research Martian spider robots and floating drones. I mean, I didn't get any on them in research, even though I had several wrecks in storage, and because of that I was unable to research using the Martian drones or building that machine that can take them over.

I have finished the game for a second time. I'd like to know what the prerequisites are for that research that lets you use martian drones. I didn't get it this time around. Also, is there a mod around that makes the martians stronger in the strategic game? They were down to 2 territories in my game.

I have a little problem. being a completionsit, I want to make every research available. Acid ammo isn't working I have a lot of Beastman acid cartriges and grenades, but the prerequisite is still rted. Can someone explain to me what I'm supposed to do to fix this. Maybe some savegame editing (I'm trying to learn)

Ok, I'd like to know if a mod can be made, maybe one that is compatible with others to some degree, that can allow expedition soldiers to wear the basic reticulan armor suit, the one from the renegade reticulans.

OK, I've stopped caring about fairness. Please tell me exactly how I can add items to my inventory, specifically martian grenades and expedition suits. Please try to make it easy-to-understand

Okay, so, apparently, that lovely click-and-scan mechanic from Aftershock no longer exists. How does one use the scanners? Do I have to point it at something? Someplace? Why am I getting a targeting cursor when I click the use button?

I meant that both martians and expedition refuse me whenever I click the offer equipment button. Same goes for just about every other button. they refuse

I have hit a spot of bother in Afterlight. The Martians are down to 2 territories and I think that because of this, they reject every offer I make to them. I want some of their grenades, to get an expedition armor. I'd like to know how to ad the items, and give them some territories. If possible, I'd like this to be layed out clearly, as I don't have any previous experience with this game.

Hey, there. I'm planning on installing the games again, all 3 of them. I'd like to know if Aftershock can be beaten. Is that PoD bug still a game-breaker, what are the latest patches for each, etc. Thanks. PS: I can't seem to download the latest patches for AM and AS.

*out of the shadows* Funny... I saw this thread and though "What the hell? Let's make use of it" There was a good-looking aftershock mod in the works some time ago, that promised to provide all sorts of unused features like wargot equipment and all that. Does that mod still exist?
