  1. Confirmed. I just played the game with the "Items Resized" mod in, and it completely broke the AI. After taking the mod out and restarting the level, the AI was totally back to normal (and totally deadly, too, dammit!). Play with the Items Resized mod at your own risk.
  2. Hey there, all. I've been a Silent Storm junkie for ages, and now I'm on to THIS great game. But I have some questions: 1) Is there any way to get a country BACK from the aliens? So far I've lost the UK, France, and Australia, and that's a lot of funding. 2) Is there any way to rearrange the list of soldiers so my officers are at the top? I'm tired of the first guy on the list getting the rocket launcher, and having to trade stuff around...any pointers there? I'm sure more will follow. Thanks in advance!
  3. What's the ETA for this game right now? Sometime this year?
  4. Sweet! I've heard a bunch of amazing things about it, and I LOVE Digital Distribution, so a download might just be in my near future. Hmm, it seems that Unfinished Buisness is seperate but standalone. Should I go for the original game or the expansion? (Sentinels is a much more fully featured game than S2, but S2 has more pure "fun" to it for me)
  5. I demand the save anywhere functionality DGC mod gives you, mainly because I can only game in short bursts, and can't finish every mission in the same sitting. It remains to be seen if I'll have the willpower not to abuse the saving. I'm relishing the idea of playing well but recklessly, and replacing any soldiers who fall in battle. It will hurt, but it will be very different than the last time, when I was a Cautious Cathy. All those mods should be compatible. I think they each change different tables. Make sure you're fully patched, of course. And Random Storm for Sentinels worked fine for me when I used it a couple years ago. I liked the new locations, too; they weren't terribly unique, but it was nice to have new areas to blow up and knock over.
  6. Is JA2 available as abandonware yet? If not, where can I get it? I've heard so much about it, but have yet to enjoy it.
  7. I was playing a hell of a lot of STALKER for a while. The atmosphere in that game is astonishingly good and the firefights are gripping and scary. Great game.
  8. Yay! Done! I'm back into S2 fully, but we'll see how long it lasts. I'm looking forward to not abusing the sniping abilities of a maxed-out sniper as it makes the game too easy. I'm also hoping to drop a member or two and replace them with Soldiers. I like the idea of a squad of badass confrontationalists! Rarr!
  9. Jesucristo, you guys are still after the hugs? I'd recommend moving up to kisses, but the shock would probably kill you.
  10. Oh heck yeah! Check out the mods section on this very site for some good ones. There's the DieHard mod, Oddballs mod, and the Difficulty Grade Changes one that I prefer. I haven't played with either of the others much, but they were pretty popular back in the day. Sentinels has some great mods for it, too, including one that adds a bunch of new random encounters. Combine that with the incredible amount of tweaking you can do to the AI in that game and you've got a lot of replayability. Dig around in the mods section and come back with any questions or suggestions. We may just all excite each other. ...I didn't mean for that to sound dirty...
  11. They eventually started fighting back, but I'm not sure why. Maybe there's some script trigger that we didn't hit until we crossed the gated entrance, which I didn't do until we'd already killed the majority of them. And no, they didn't even engage the Allied dudes. I'm thinking there's some event trigger line somewhere. I'll poke around with it tonight and see if they develop a killer instinct or remain cattle, dociley waiting for the slaughter.
  12. So I'm on the second mission of my Allied game, the one where the Axis attack the train depot/warehouses. You know, where the dude gets sniped out of his tower at the very beginning of the level? Anyway, I'm running all my guys around the outside of the compound to attack from the rear and the Allied soldiers who guard the base are engaging the Axis dudes trying to kill them. But that's the problem. The Axis guys aren't doing anything. They're just standing there, slowly getting taken out by the grenades I'm tossing over the fence and the bullets of the Allies, who hit every now and then, even though their aim is terrible. I can see the little "active" highlight go from one guy to another during the Enemy turn, but they don't do anything, even move. The Allied guys are running and shooting and stuff, so the level itself isn't broken. So...why is this happening? Might it have to do with my use of the Difficulty Grade Changes mod? Or the fact that I haven't been SEEN by them yet, even though I'm egaging them with grenades and machine gun fire through the concrete wall? More importantly, is there anything I can do about it? An AI reset command? Anything?
  13. Totally! I love the equipment resize mod for those same reasons. You can only carry one large gun in each slot: none in the backpack. So if you want to have a rifle and a grenade in your main slots, you can't have another large gun in your backpack! It's an exercise in specialization and appropriate force management, and really focuses how you play. No more multi-talented squaddies.
  14. It wouldn't send me an email to remember my password, so I just made a new me. I wish I could do that in real life; my knees are messed up and could use a reboot. I AM totally enjoying the game! I'm at work right now and wish I could head back home and knock down some Nazi bastards... You still playing any of these wonderful games?
  15. Aiee! I'm back in Silent Storm! A thread about strategy/tactics games on another forum has got me back into S2, and I'm loving it again! I was an hour late to work this morning because I started playing through a level just to "see if my new key bindings were working". Suddenly, BAM. I'm really late. Anyway, it's great to play again, and I'm having a ball playing through in different ways than the past. How good of an ambush can I set up? What if I just run in, guns blazing? What's an All-Soldier squad play like? What if I use only a Grenadier, a Scout, and my Sniper? What about just my Sniper? I'm using the Difficulty Grade Changes mod and enjoying the beefed up AI and save anywhere ability (gotta have it, as my gaming time is limited these days). You guys do anything special and/or weird to keep the experience fresh and exciting?
  16. Yay! Difficulty Grade Changes appears to work now! All I did was install the 1.2 version of the UK patch over my S2 Gold game and it works great! I can even save in real-time on Impossible difficulty, battle smarter enemies, and do all sorts of other cool stuff! More testing and tweaking, here I come!
  17. Hey there, you all! Long time no see! I had to make a new account as DoomMunky2 b/c my old one was lost, apparently, but I'm back. Nice to see you're all still banging away! Unfortunately I'm here b/c I'm trying to get S2 Gold working using some mods, but am having no luck. I want to use Difficulty Grade Changes, the Improved Grenade range, and hopefully the NoPKs Mod, but none of them work. Difficulty Grade Changes works fine until I shoot an enemy or they shoot me: no damage is dealt! The other features work fine (save in real-time, etc), but this 'no damage' thing is sortof a deal breaker... Every time I try to start a new game (or add it to a save) with the NoPKI get a crash to desktop, which is hard to play, too... Any thoughts? I haven't tried patching yet, as I'm sure the Gold version is patched...I'm running XP w/SP2, an Nvidia 7800GT, 2gb of ram, and an AMD 4000+, all drivers updated. I should have no problems, and the game works fine without mods, but I can't stand the skill progressions and various weirdnesses of the original game.
  18. Accounting Troll, you got it right that they were hedging their bets. Later on in the SAME STORY, he was referred to correctly as well. It seems that many folks work on the same BBC webpage story, and not all of them totally sober or with it. "Have you all met our newest copy editor, George? He's been living under a rock for five years, but he's pretty good at erasing comics captions and inserting newer, more inappropriate ones! Lets give him a warm BBC welcome" "MOOOOOOOOO"
  19. Actually, "Mr. Scooter" deserves a lot less... And that's from one of his countrymen!
  20. Ha ha! Dumb mistake, but funny!
  21. See, if that's fun for you, then that's great. There's a lot of different play-styles out there. My brother only likes to play Vice City and San Andreas with the cheat codes cranked up to 10 and the freakin' music blaring as he uses his unlimited bazooka ammo to destroy whole cities. I feel like I'm not dealing with the consequences of my actions when I quickload often. I like to feel like I earned my victories, and that's hard for me to do when I've been quickloading a lot and basically removing the possibility of failure, without which there is no real victory. As my sig shows, I'm playing Oblivion these days (along with half the planet if the sales figures can be believed) and I'm running into the same issue; dealing with the consequences of my actions can really suck! I HATE having to pay a fine and get all my stolen loot taken away every time I get caught pickpocketing, but that's what happens if you don't just quickload. Usually I'll pickpocket and stuff like that on a whim and if it doesn't go well I'll just quickload and move on. For me it's fun to succeed when the chance for failure was legitimate, but for others, like my brother, there is no real 'success' or 'failure' just freakin' PARTY TIME!! And I can dig that, too!
  22. Chest in the attic...? I haven't heard of that...please, tell us how that goes... Yeah, those damn ninjas are freakin' impossible. They are what broke me, eventually, off my last play-thru attempt, actually. I had to quicksave and reload so often in order to beat them that a couple missions later I was disgusted with myself, felt like I was cheating, and put the game down... They are freakin crazy. Following whatever path comes up is a great idea, especially on your first play through. Unless you're a total completist, I highly recommend just going where the game takes you and not trying to min/max your way through it, find all the crazy special stuff, and so on. Just have fun and blow away the bad guys, you know? That's my two cents.
  23. Oh HO, my friend, I see you have been tricky with your pictures and posted from withOUT the canon of the Campaign Missions! This behavior shall not go UNCHALLENGED!! Well, actually, it...probably will...*sigh* Somebody challenge this man!
  24. Hey there, SF, glad you're into the game but godDAMN do we hate those freakin' ninjas. It's been a while since I played, but if I remember correctly you'll leave England before you finish all the missions there. I'm not sure what the progression order is, though. After looking over the FAQ at GameFaqs.com, it looks like you'll be heading back to North England later in the game. Overall, don't worry too much about getting all the missions on your first play-thru. There's just enough weird variation in this game that you might not even GET the clue you need to do a certain mission, just because the game thought you didn't need it. At least that's how it seemed to me... Enjoy, though. I hope I helped... Let us know if you have more questions!
