  1. ya, its default. I just load dosbox, and enter commands liek this Z:\mount c c:\ Z:\ c:\ c:\cd MPS c:\MPS\cd tftd c:\MPS\TFTD\terror (there are a couple program files and one gives me the above problem, the other one upon loading, goes through a list of files it cant find, and through my searching in the directeries dont even exist. So I'm guessing thats a problem, its a bunch a files in a folder(which i dont have) geoscape, and geostat or sumthin.and then the program loads in a bunch of neon colors, and scrambled text.
  2. yes I have 6.1 and it doesnt work, it gives me those missing file errors.
  3. I have tried dosbox already, and i got a bunch of errors when i tried to play it. It told me a couple files were missing.although i looked through the directory and they weren't. And now its not going to work on the 486? its too slow? the game says it only needs a 386. And it seems to me its a different problem anyways. -|)
  4. turning on no sound is what caused me to atleast play the intro, but it still froze after the intro. And getting the info from those files is a lil dificult at the moment, as the 486 is at the dudes house. but the next time im there ill post the info. -|)
  5. so much to learn .... i just wish i could play lol. So makeing profit from technicians it is. I'da never thought of it .... the last time i played this game i musta been .... wow 12? a good 7 years ago. Thus my gaming intuition was not fully developed and i prolly didnt have the patience to ride things out. Just off the top of my head, I can recall pressing the "1 day" time just to skip ttime until a research project got done, when i probably could have been doing many other things. but was quite the long time ago. I havent been able to talk to my friend who's dad (the one who im buying the 486 from) has both my CDs (TFTD & UFO). thus i cant even play in super speed time just to get the mission resaults from the last mission, but id get in a good 30 min of playing. Why can't things just work like they're suppose to. -|)rew
  6. I have an Nvidia Geforce 4, i dunno if thats a s3 or what. But neways, Id like to get it working on the 486 as I have many other games I wish bust out to with. Has anyone had this problem first hand? the freezing problem that is. If so, I'd like to know what you did to fix it. if you could fix it. thanks -|)rew
  7. 255??? is that the most you can have or something? When i first start off I usually got 20 as that was close to 1 million dollars, which is like 1/4 of what u start off with. but ur saying i need to get 50?? whewy. What about manfucturing ... and since were on the subject, military guys. I seem to find the 10 mechanists u start off with seem to do ok it takes something like 2 days 12 hours to make 2 gauss pistols. of which usually nothign will happen during that time, and when thats done, I can just continue to make them in incriments of 2 or whatever, so that way ill have some if aliens appear before I have all I wish to have. And what about research order just to start, when i orignally first tried it, before i started reading these posts, i was gunna try skipping gauss, and go straight to sonic weapons. However, it appears gauss is somewhat important in some scenarios, so ill add that in. but should it be first?
  8. proper mouse? Will the mouse mess it up like that? I mean the screen doesnt even load. it just freezes .... and requires a hard reset (or just turning it off/on in the case of this computer) to get it running again. The next thign were going to try tho is get the CD ROM working in DOS b/c last time we were trying it in a DOS promt, so maybe thatll help out a lil ... who knows.
  9. And it doesnt work .... Imagine that. It freezes as soon as u try to get past the intro. The dude said somethign about haveing to make a boot disk to free up as much conventional memory as possible .... but I dont think its gunna be that easy ... Does anyone have any ideas on what causes the game to freeze after the intro? I'd like to speed this process up as much as possible so I dont have to keep playing it on this 2800 AMD with an uncontroulable mouse scroll and mous click for that matter, the wolrd map time moving like im in 5 min time when i have 5 secs clicked, and not to mention missions ending before i complete them only to load the resaults of the last mission and actually have that be the resault of the one that ended in the middle of it. Well enough rambleingf i Have to wake up for class in 6 hours .... gunna be a long day. Cya. -Drew
  10. Wow, ya, that was always my problem before, not researching fast enough. But when i tried to overload with scientists, i ended up haveing more bills than funds at the end of each month, things just never worked out for me. Ill def keep the tactical retreats in mind, as i dont ever recall using the abort mission function ... ever lol. Or attending untimely terror sites just for the mere purpose of making an apperance. It all sounds like gravey, cant wait to start it up again just as soon as i help this dude fix his 486 so i can then buy it. ^^ But until that day, Ill probably be floatin around here. lucky for you guys . -Drew
  11. Okay, so I bought a new computer, or should I say old computer just for the purpose of playing this game. I am quite excited, and Im dieing waiting for it to get here. I have both UFO and TFTD but havent been able to beat either fo them. Ive read throughout the posts that UFO seems to be easier, so I might have to try that one first, but I was wondering if there are any rules of thumb you must abide by if you wish to complete the game. As I recall from playing many years ago, I could never do good enough with alien control to keep my funds up, I had to just focus on keeping one region happy (usually the US) just to make sure i got some money. Evntually it caught up to me tho, and the world disowned me. So I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for either of two games. Thanks. -Drew
  12. Haha, well turns out im buying an old 486 LOL its only gunna cost me 25 bucks and ocmes with a monitor. so, lets hope for the best.
  13. Sorry to post again, but Ive sound somethign about a collecter's edition which runs in windows? Could this possibly work in windows XP?
  14. yes, im not spending 100 bucks for something i might play aroudn with for as month
  15. No, trust me i tried, and i still scroll too fast, plus in the earth view or whatever, time goes by like i have it one of the middle settings when its on 5 sec. but when i move people and stuff they move at normal speed, its just scrolling with my mouse ......
  16. Does any1 else have a more clear explination of what to do on how to make the game normal speed with a 2.8 gig processor, and windows XP(home).
