  1. I'm not bashing them I'm bashing them plus the rest of the industry that realeases buggy games. I'm glad they got it out but don't shove a game down our throats thats half finished and with a poorly designed pathing system. I payed cash for a game not a 9/10th finished game where I have to wait for two different patches. back when the internet wasn't as prevalent as it is today companies actually had to complete the damn game. Not just put out endless patchs to fix what should of been easily spotted. Being small is no excuse for not having some QA with the product. It's obvious they put a rush on this I don't appreciate being jerked around, it's that simple. I don't hate the game I think it's a subpar game that Doesn't have much replay value as X-com. I wouldn't of recommended anyone play it until 1.2 though. Sorry but I'm not buying the excuses of a demo being so late. It's a common tactic used when it's a rushed game. The devolpers had plenty of time to release a demo out there I'm sorry but it's not as hard as you make it out to be not 5 weeks after going gold to release one. If it does take them 5 weeks then they should fire there staff. They had to fix there rushed game first then they moved to release a demo on the 1.2 patch so that people would'nt see all the bugs prevalent in the game any normal user would of. I expect a decent ending at the game not super but at least something like a telling of the near future or showing what would happen in the near future you could leave it open to anything you wanted at the end but showing me two children reading a book shows me nothing of an acomplishment outside of what I've already known which is I saved Small childern that can read books and humanity can propser. Show me the old greys or us re-building that would be interesting and following the story. In the end I don't fault the game I fault the publishers for rushing the game and for obsfucating the demo so that people wouldn't be able to see that they put a rush job on it. I fault the devolpment team for not taking more time on issues that were easily spotted.
  2. It's a common tactic employed by the industry. I don't have to be a freaking spy and break into Cenega to know that. What do you propose then if they put out a demo of the game with how it was when it first shipped horrible pathing buggy research, bugs aplenty. Woulda sold tons of games right? They had plenty of time to "glue together" a demo . Once a game goes gold you have about two to three weeks there to do anything you want. It's not like demos are some huge obstacle either, basically it's breaking the game down to show off a few things, requires a weeks work. Yes alot of high profile games get late demos this isn't because of shoddy work it's because the game is high profile and doesn't need a demo at first then once the buzz dies down you give people the demo so that you can rake in those few last dollars. _spoiler_ And that Ending was horrible no two ways about it, childern reading a book and showing a sphere wow. Makes me feel I've acomplished something know that Childern can read books about tigers again. It would of been alot more pleasing to see something of the old greys coming to help us out or showing how we started rebuilding as a prelude to a sequel. But alas we get Child with a book. I think I'll head down to my Library now so I can go re-watch the ending of UFO:AM
  3. I don't care if it was twenty years since they had a new X-com like game. This game still is subpar and was rushed out with plenty of bugs and horrbile pathing. I'm not going to excuse a game company because they rushed the game if anything they should get more crap for releasing a game so damn fast that you couldn't even research something. They didn't even probably test it as anyone with a brain could of saw that that one particular thing was never being researched. I can't do better but wtf does that have to do with anything? They released a subpar game that was made even more subpar by the glitches and bugs it has. The game should of been released when the Demo was. Which is why they held off on the demo so that they could get the kinks ironed out so the general populise wouldn't say my god this plays horribly and there's so many bugs. Not to mention the ending and cutscenes are about the worst I've ever seen. pixelated garbage that has no sentiment or feeling behind them.
  4. Yeah and my opinion is that he's on something to think that, because almost everyone agrees this is a subpar game that could of done so much better then what was achieved. This game wasn't groundbreaking or a game people will talk about ten years after it's been realeased X-com is.
  5. Aftermath is an improvment on The original and TFTD what are you on? This game doesn't hold a candle to those two and are still more fun to play then this. They released the game early and it took 2 patches to get it to be not so annoying, once a company releases a demo of the game then you know it's in ok shape but when they hold off on it until after the game is out you know they rushed it out.
  6. Pcgamer gives harsh reviews for crappy graphics for good reasons it's the year 2003 and it shouldn't look like the year 1998's graphics which this does. This game is a mid 70's game an will remain there until they do what people want which is bring back an X-com type game with updated graphics. not some pseudo game where the ships and alien bases look someone on crack made them. Oh and pcgamer always gives 3 bad things and good things at the review unless it's a bad game like low 40's then they don't waste the ink. If you think there all about graphics they canned the Enter the Matrix game rightfully too because it stunk to high heaven.
  7. Actually no as I said microprose gave away all rights and it is shareware now so you can put the link back, pcgamer itself said this is a free program and we didn't pay anything for it. It was some top ten list of greatest game that are free now or something. Companys can do that sort of thing you know letting people download it for free after awhile.
  8. I'd rather not go into buildings I hated sweeping buildings and finding that last alien I'd spent an hour looking for is hiding in the linen closet.
  9. If you want the original X-com you can find it here *LINK REMOVED BY ADMIN* It's legal to download because Microprose like a year or so ago gave any standing away and lets people distrbute or Download for free now. It was even on a pcgamer disc like a year or so ago. There's a cracked exe that comes along with it too so it works on Xp. *Note from Pete - it is not legal to download it from abandonware sites as it is not abandonware. Not long back, an abandonware site got told to remove it by Infogrames/Atari as they still hold the license for all the X-COM games. Please do not post and link to warez/CD cracks/abandonware sites on this forum, as we don't want to be shut down by anyone for linking to these sites. Anyone who wishes to discuss abandonware issues with the X-COM series can feel free to PM me or e-mail me (I don't bite!), but don't post more about it in this topic.*
  10. Someone said you never knew the motivation after UFO Eenmy unknown which is true but in the second, TFTD you find out
  11. I've said these things before but I'd liked to have seen this in the game. -About face so that you can get soldiers facing in different directions. -Buildable base defenses and contructions, It's a little too simplistic. -Ability to rearrange the way things fit into backpacks like move twist it around so that you can fit that extra RPG round in. -No unlimited items , part of the fun of x-com was maintaining your items and cash. -We should have the ability to manufacture Earth weapons already out there instead of waiting for stockpiles to be found. -Ability to split research/manufacture resources so that two or three can go at the same time, again too simplistic and slow with just one thing going. -Fix the Bad pathing of units if I want to move them in a group ofm ore then 3 and they hit a door half of them want to walk around the whole base to get to the other side of the door instead of waiting behind the men like they have been. -Ability to tell fighters what intercept modes they should go into like defensive offensive etc etc. -Ability to tell squads to stay in certain formations. Like two by two. -Quick grouping parts of the squad like most RTS' have like shift 1 would be 3 or 4 of your squad and shift two would make up the other parts of your squad this is just an example you can make any mix you want but by pressing the 1 or 2 or 3's they would automatically switch to those squad people you grouped. -Alien Bases and UFo's wern't done very well and needed a better atmosphere of fear and excitment they just look pyschadelic. -A map building or mod building application to be added to the game, it would be nice to see some campaigns or maps built by people go into the game. -More different types of missions and objectives, it gets tedious after awhile. -A better and larger research tree, not hindered by guys like not being able to research alien power cells. -Fix the way the game ramps up in hardness, hard game setting or not it shouldn't ramp up that hard after such a short while. -Better defenses for alien PSI, it is insane how much PSi gets through and it should be toned down to alot lower levels, you should at least get a chance to squeeze off a round or two before they take control.
  12. I don't think small arms fire affects teammates I think they code it into the game as your people are smart enough not to shoot bullets when your member is crossing his line of fire. If a military base is red with a radar blip going around I think thats where your chinook(helicopter) landed. There's al lsorts of UFO's most of the ones you see at the start are reogranized human tissue later on you get into Man O wars and car crabs and fireticks the man uses psi powers ticks use fire and the car crab uses psi/electric power. Reticulans are what you'll face most though and they have a wide variety of alien weapons that they use, from rocket launchers to rifles to plasma guns that have a splash effect. More recruits are garnered by influence and by projects such as ones youll get into by R&D that search through data of satellites, I never have a problem with people though because I'm a freak about keeping everyone alive in a mission so I don't let them die. I don't know how much each base provides since projects take different durations but You don't really need many military bases at the start so go heavy on research at first. What I try to do is keep one military base in the middle of my main base location then a few on the sides to intercept. I don't think it is possible to blow up a building, you can blow up cars and most types of walls and crates though.
  13. I'd add a part to the section explaning how to make the config file not everyone runs that exe before they play. Oh yeah and I wouldn't link to those trainers yet as the god mode they provide doesn't work yet, or at least say something about that if they just want it for the item dupe capability.
  14. Basically the UFo's and Alien bases look the same and they arn't very imagintive I think they would of done a while lot better to build a frightening atmopshere instead they went pyschadelic and it isn't very scary. Be ready to take some fire in those UFO's though it's a total massacre the moment you step into the ship most of the time they surrond you, nades are your friend in these maps and heavy rounds.
  15. I think the Psi in this game is out of whack really, even with the best of defenses you would be extremely lucky to resist once. In the old X-com you at least had a chance of resisting a few attacks before they got you. Here though it's like boom and they have you. My best defense is to save often and have two people with heavy rounds, then if I know an alien is abut to round a corner and zap me I just fire a few rockets before they do and knock them out before they get to see me.
