I remember I had the same problem once, but it only happened if the amour of the soldier in question is not flying suit. The only solution i've found (besides restarting from scratch) is by switching to CE (Collectors Edition)

Ok i'd say he's better in managing projects than being a Laser Tech genius, still he's quite good at adapting to changes. He's a computer goon though, so he'll make some breaktroughs when researching UFO navigation and the new crafts. He made some valuable research when he was at the university about computer simulated physical models, especially in optical models (good for Laser Tech); combining that with his computer science skills (specially at project management) he was chosen by X-COM to become the chief scientist.

Well, in the meantime the chief scientist will do some of his own experiments until the lab's finished :)

I use Tin Opener, but use Crash, Bang and Clear before getting flying armor/blaster launchers, and with small ships (they aren't worth the blaster bomb)
