  1. At least you got the win! Now time to prime the cloning vats....
  2. FYI, even though you haven't yet posted the video here of the alien farm mission, Devastator cannons do take out those white cubes in the alien farm. It just may take anywhere to 3 to 5 shots per big cube. Slow, I know, but effective if you're out of vortex mines. Also, I think your dimension missile hit underneath the platform missing the cubes, because you guy was at a weird angle to be making a shot at it. I won't spoil anymore other than be prepared to cringe a lot or in the case of my son, hid his face underneath a couch pillow.
  3. Well, Nook got me hooked on playing Apocalypse. My son started playing before I did, but after getting around to it, I have made quite a bit of progress on easy level. NKF's advice has been very helpful. Right now, I've surpassed where Nook is, and have finished the "Alien Farm" and just finished researching dimension missiles and the launcher. The "Alien Farm" battle really was an enjoyable battle for me, because it was very tough and was the first time I faced a large quantity of dimension missile launchers aimed at me. It really challenged me to practice good squad advancement techniques like "bounding overwatch" as well covering my retreating soldiers as Skeletoids came after us when completing the mission ("center peel"... no I'm not military). I can't believe how many aliens we downed in that one mission, and I almost scored 2000 points in recovered equipment alone! I really enjoy the realtime aspect better than the turn-based of Apocalypse. However, I still prefer the previous X-COM turn based battles overall. The pathfinding is so annoying at times in realtime. I can see what people mean by how there is a big dropoff, once you reach a certain point in the game. I'm steadily increasing finances (half a million now after alien farm). Toxin Type C just rules with all the one shot drops of Anthropods and Skeletoids, and I almost don't want to bother with devastator cannons because of all the shots to punch through their shields (which matters if they're carrying a dimension missile launcher and sometimes entropy). My annihilators just cleaned up the UFO's in the alien dimension for the week, so my biotransport can waltz in to complete it's mission. So most of my time is spent waiting to research the next building, heal up, and ammo up before going out again. Having a blast.. not sure if I play at harder level or go back and try another OpenXcom mod.
  4. Awesome job fighting back! Those megaspawn are pretty rough. Can't wait to see how well you hold up using the disruptor armor. Feel free to add JG and Jachin back as soldier names. I don't usually comment on Youtube, since I'm watching the videos on my TV via Kodi.
  5. Do you think this series is salvageable with only two soldiers left? Curious, since I don't know the game.
  6. Thought my guy was a goner too and would soon join Jachin. Amazing way to pull out a win.
  7. Absolutely brutal way to end the mission
  8. You got it. JAY-Kin. Also, he does prefer a solider first, but will take a craft if none available.
  9. Looks interesting so far after 4 episodes. My son and I have been watching it. Sign me up as JG on the waiting list. I'll gladly be a hoverbike or some craft if need be. My son would like to put on the waiting list as well as either soldier or craft. Name is Jachin.
  10. Great LP, Nook! Too bad I got mind controlled there and took some people out (JG) on that last mission, but at least you pulled it through after a rough start.
  11. My son played the Overseer UFO in the battle generator a couple of days ago. Let's just say, it's a really big battleship. Imagine the battleship with an extra level on top. I don't know what it looks like in flight though.
  12. Sure, sign me up! "I'm in!" Never played them, and sounds interesting!
  13. Much better outcome than Rio! Although, you probably could have come away with a couple more soldiers not on the memorial list there
  14. Agreed, thanks again for the contest! I appreciate it!
  15. Yep. I had the same thoughts Save a me a few bucks in the end.
  16. Yeah, I won something!
  17. Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum, since it is somewhat game related. I wanted to give a shout out to an excellent board game called Galaxy Defenders (http://www.galaxy-defenders.com). I had a blast playing it over my vacation with my 10 year old. It's a tactical squad based combat game where you are fighting off an alien invasion much like X-COM. Your units can "level" up, and you can play campaign or skirmish from the scenario guide. You get cool weapons that you can pick before each mission. The Alien A.I decks are very well done. The miniatures are awesome! The game publisher just released two new expansions this month for the game, so there is support for it. I even had a missing piece that they promptly replaced. I know that Fantasy Flight officially released X-COM: The BoardGame, but I've seen quite a few reviews expressing disappointment at the lack of squad combat and that it was too abstract in the game. To me, that is what defines the X-COM in a big way is the squad based combat, so Galaxy Defenders feels like that to me. I encourage everyone to check it out.
  18. I'm in! Yes, I've never played even though I'm old enough to have done so. I've just recently played X-COM and caught the OpenXcom bug! Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
