  1. You would have known if it had been a Chyrsallid commander, the battle ship wouldn't have headed straight for your base, it would flown towards your base, then away, then back, then away, then back, then away, then.....
  2. If you can get hold of the Collectors Edition then it will work fine on Windows XP if you turn hardware acceleration off on your graphics card, and if you don't have an S3 Graphics card.

  4. I'm sure everyone has had some disastrous missions, ones that are doomed from the start. Here is one of mone. The first was my first ever terror mission, my 14 men all poured out of the Skyranger in the first two turns ... then something landed on the ground near my men ... hmmm what's that ... oh poo ... BANG! 6 Men left alive, in the next turn I send my men towards the direction the grenade came from, zap zap evil reaction fire... 4 little x-com soldiers left. On the next turn 3 men panic, one man is brave enough to fight on, he spots the enemy and fires an auto burst at it. The alien stands there looking puzzled at how the soldier can be firing at him and yet hit the building miles away from it ... 3 times ... on the enemies turn the alien puts him out of his misery ... 3 men left alive. My turn again, 2 soldiers panic, and the other one drops dead from his wounds from the grenade at the start, two men left ... zap zap ... 1 man left ... panics some more and drop his gun, runs off in a random direction, reaction fire ... the end. I nearly cried, I'd been doing so well up to then.
  5. When I come online here nobody seems to be on, or there's one or two at the most. Do I smell?
  6. After much experimenting I can now get Transengant theory, but only if I do it before I get UFO Detection, if I research UFO detection before the autopsies then it doesn't come up if I research them after for some reason? Bloody weird.
  7. Oh poo, well I have researched all of those, and still no transengent theory I think there must be something wrong with my copy. Is there anyway of getting round it and having the transengant theory researchable from the start? I've tried using the mod making package but it doesn't seem to work for me when I try.
  8. All my complaints about XP have now stopped, it now seems to work perfectly with everything, including games that insist that they won't work on windows XP

I managed that mission first time without any problems, I did have the advantage that all my squad had very high rifle skills by then, I just immediatly spread out as the rockets were fired, took minor damage, then as soon as the rocket exploded I just concentrated all fire on a rocket firing alien, due to rifle skills they could all fire from extreme distances with alien lasers and very rarely miss, each alien I fired at lasted approximately 0.2 seconds I think
  10. What creatures do you NEED to have to research the Transengant Theory? No matter how many different creatures I capture and autopsy it never ever comes up, so obviously I have no way of defeating the biomass. It's really annoying me now, I know some creatures are essential and some just speed up the process if you've researched them. I just want to know the essential ones, and how to find them if possible. It's spoiling my enjoyment immensley, I've started fresh many times and still never got to research transengant theory.
  11. I think the floaters have been sampling the earth cannabis, which explains their slow reactions and incredible ability to get shot a lot without doing anything about it. I hope the floaters weren't named after an inability to flush toilets after use
  12. I think they got given all their names because it was a bit better than calling them Dave or Steve.

You should be able to run it on WINuae which is a good amiga emulator, you will have to copy your kickstart roms from your amiga to the PC though, it tells you in winuae how to do this, if you download the kickstart roms and it's not the same as your owned kickstart rom for your amiga then it is illegal.
  15. I know but my normal shotgun blasted 1777 from maximum distance with the crappest soldier.

None of my soldiers has a good alien skill though, perhaps I'm just being extremely lucky with them or something but it does get annoying when something that takes 10 rounds of uzi fire dies like a daisy from a shotgun fired at the maximum range, I think I'll just continue not to use the default shotgun while playing, unless those aliens REALLY p me off, in which case I'll use them out of spite
  17. This happened to me when I was trying to get it to work on an S3 card by disabling the video card. You don't have one of those god forsaken S3 cards do you?
  18. Would I be able to make the shotgun weaker with any modding tools to balance it out a bit, I feel sorry for the poor alien critters.
  19. So the 12% is more a damage ratio than a 'to hit' percentage with the shotgun?

I can't remember to be honest, I only use Visual Basic from the suite, it means installing and uninstalling every time but it takes only about 30 secs to install so it's not that much of a problem really, Aftermath works fine once Visual Studio is taken off, it just means re-installing it everytime I want to program.
  21. I never really bothered with tanks in UFO Enemy Unknown so I'm not affected by the lack of tanks in Aftermath.
  22. Is there anyway to have Visual Studio on the computer and still run Aftermath? Aftermath refuses to run if visual studio is installed and comes up with the CANNOT INITIALISE 0xc0000005 blah blah error. I assume it's the debugger that the game is taking exception to.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or an anomaly or what, but my shotguns in the game v1.3 are ridiculously powerful, they never seem to miss even when I have only 12% to hit or something, and they seem to cause critical damage 3 in 4 times from the longest range possible to fire them. I'm not running any mods or anything like that, has anyone else had these super shotguns of death? I've stopped using them for now just to be fair to the poor aliens.
  24. I've had weird things on both UFO and Apocalypse UFO - I only had 7 men left alive and a base mission came up, so I thought sod it, I'll send them in for a laugh. My 7 men entered the base, first turn no sign of the enemy, enter enemy turn, I see SECTOID HAS PANNICED, I see this several more times, they just kept pannicing so I had a nice easy mission of picking off helpless Sectoids. In Apocalypse I noticed that aliens do tend to infiltrate schools an awful lot, I'm suspecting Michael Jackson is one of the aliens. I've had a few apocalypse missions where I've started a mission, heard a loud bang and then won the mission before I've had chance to do anything. I've also had the odd X-Com agent with Arnie-disease, one X-Com agent was hit with about 8 disruptor shots, 3 grenades and a popper, he wasn't even remotely bothered by it. Incidentally in the next mission he was killed by a pathetic machine shot by a Sirius cult member ... I wasn't very happy.
  25. My windows completely died on me but it's probably the best thing that ever happened, after the reformat and re-installation the thing was so bloody fast it was unbelievable, there was so much crap on my computer and now I don't have to find all that crap and remove it
