Couple of questions about the PS1 version

I've been playing this for a while now on the PS1 and keep getting annoying problem (I'm using the hotspot interface by the way, not the point and click one). When I'm on the battlescape and I press the start button to switch to the menu at the bottom of the screen, sometimes (often in fact) the selected troop will turn around and face (or even walk towards) the cursor on the battlescape, instead of the cursor switching to the menu. Anyone else had this problem? If you press start when the cursor is over the troop then he will usually turn north. I know I can put the cursor one square in front of him, but that doesn't always work. And I know I could use point and click, but I much prefer hotspot apart from this little problem.

Also, I've occasionally had interceptor's going missing. Like I will have a few bases, switch to my first one or whatever, and it's just not there. And I know for a fact that I had one there and it hadn't been destroyed by a UFO because I would have remembered. Weird.

I'm not sure why units sometimes turn and move while using the hotspot interface. I've had soldiers turn and move when pressing the select button on the battlescape. It doesn't happen all the time and its hard to reproduce, but I did it three times in a row by tapping the select button a few times very fast. Don't know, this may be a glitch with the PSX getting confused with an input from the controller. In any case, I long since gave up on the hotspot interface due to these problems. If only I could get my hands on the PSX mouse... then everything would be perfect. :D

I notice that my PS2 that I'm playing it on (the slimline one) has two USB sockets, and I wonder if any USB mouse might work with it?

I'm pretty sure you can use any USB mouse/keyboard, not just those manufactured for the PlayStation 2. Least, that's what I heard anyway. :D

Hmm. Just tried my PC Logitech mouse and nothing. From reading other forums about this stuff it seems that only some USB mice work, and even then only with a very few PS2 games, so who knows if a working mouse would work with any PS1 games on the PS2 :D Ah well, I've managed with the hotspot interface so far :D By the way, there are some official PS1 mice on a certain auction site, pretty cheap too. Might end up going for a PS1 and mouse from there myself some time, can't have any problems that way.
