LP-Spy
I'm running a downloaded copy of TFTD off my hard drive, and no matter what I try I can't seem to get ANY sound whatsoever. Now, while yes, it IS somewhat zen to play TFTD in absolute silence, it is remarkably less than fun. I'm running the game in DOSBox, 065 I think, when I run setup it takes me thru all the steps then shunts back to dos with the error... error writing sound filesnull pointer assignmnet. A. I am NOT computor savvy, I am used to having a nice, easy, autorun and I'm off...B. I'm using an off-the-shelf hp Pavillion 325c with onboard sound, nothing special... about a million years ago, and on a long since discarded comp, I had a buddy send me a boot disk that allowed this ancient software to run with full sound, long since gone... Anybody want to take a stab at what might solve this??
Pete
Solution: www.fileplanet.com Search for Terror from the Deep and download the windows version (perfectly legally as well apparently) - it may crash from time to time in game, but the sound definitely works
Bomb Bloke
There's a direct link in the TFTD forum section. The windows version of the game will crash from time to time, but it's still a lot more stable then the Dos version. If you really want to run the Dos version, check that the files aren't read only. Select them all, right click, select Properties off the context menu, and make sure "Read Only" isn't ticked.

I had forgotten how much of a shock it is to be all into it, silent except for the background music, and then suddenly a hi-volume "Duh Duh....di-di-DUH!...duh, duh!!..."!!! Too funny! Thanks all, I'll STILL give the Windows version a shot...
Pete
Aye, the Windows version comes with a few bugs fixed like the whacky research tree (which I still consider a feature rather than a bug, but that's because I enjoy the pain of playing a game for weeks only to research somthing in the wrong order and have to start again ).
