Changing difficulty mid-campaign

If I edit the save file using notepad to change the difficulty: 0-4 to something else, does it work properly and are there any issues associated with doing this? Thanks

Providing you do it in geoscape nothing wrong should happen, also you don't need to use notepad, I believe we have somewhere in files difficulty changer. If you change difficulty in tactical mode, you will still encounter aliens from the difficulty you started the battle.

You can't edit the difficulty via Notepad (I really wish it was that easy though), you need to use a hex editor or something like MS-Edit. There are game editors out there which can do it though.

Notepad won't work. You need a hex editor, like Frhed. Hex-edit byte 61 (offset 60 or 0x3C) of IGLOB.DAT while on the Battlescape or in a save-game file (it has the difficulty in memory while on the Geoscape).

 

I haven't tried it, so I don't know if there are issues.
