The game ships with SQL Sever Desktop Edition, which you'll need, but this doesn't really let you view/change the data and run queries, which is what you'll have to do in order to review and edit the game stats. This is why you'll need a program (such as Blueshell or MS Access) to provide a front-end to SQL Server.
Also, I wouldn't suggest you try to change the core game file. I mean, you probably could compile a mod full game.db and replace the original with it, but this isn't a good idea and I'm not sure it would work. Why not just use the mods as intended?
-
Hi, the stats for the weapons are stored in an sql server database. Read the instructions posted in the sticky thread "How to MOD SS2 - compiled instructions" for a step-by-step process for accessing this information.
-
Hmm, I'm not sure, though my guess is that it would be. The bulk of changes are simply text adjustments in the string table. There are a few updates to the ammo type that some clips use, and some changes in the clips carried by enemies.
-
Okay, I added it to the files section. Well done!
Thanks! Though I noticed that the "more information <here>" link seems to be broken on that page?
-
Hey, guys! Sorry it took so long. Here's the update of AmmoFixes for S2, now built and tested with the 1.2 patch. If a couple of you could test the zipfile and make sure everything's good, it'll be ready to add to the file archive.
-
I don't really hate them, though I think there were very poorly designed for this game. They're all but indestructable except for a few weapons. They cause real problems on many levels because the game won't let them get close to one another, so this cause some pathing issues.
-
Thanks, this got it. I fixed a couple of weapon/magazine mismatches.
-
Huh. Okay, I'll check this out. I don't want to delete anything, I just want to change them to the correct magazine for the gun they're carrying.
-
I've noticed that there are instances of enemies carrying the Luger P08 (ItemID #3, ammo is ItemID #76) but carrying ammunition for the British Luger (ItemID #2, ammo is ItemID #75) which is incompatible. So I'm trying to fix this but I can't seem to get it right.
Specifically, I'm looking at German Town (I believe this is scenario GTwn) and the Germ_officerLugerP08 (RPGPers ID #306). He carries a Luger P08 but drops 3 clips of ammo for .38 "British Service".
I just can't figure out how I determine what equipment an enemy carries in their inventory and how I would change it. I've been looking at RPGLootInstances, but if this is what I need to change, I haven't been able to find the link between a person and his backpack.
Has anyone gotten this kind of change to work in S2?
-
I'll see what I can do.
-
Since most of the work was already done, I've gone and ported my mod to the original S2 as well. It's nearly identical except that it doesn't include some weapons in S3 that aren't in S2. This was built and tested using the U.S. Silent Storm Gold Edition, v1.1.
-
Yeah, you need to set up an ODBC connection first. Check out the pinned post called "How to mod S2 - compiled instructions"
https://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/index...?showtopic=3244
-
Thanks, made it work now. Might be me using a too old version of WinAce (extracted it with WinRar now).
File added to our files section here.
Excellent! And thanks.
-
Really? Is it the zip file you're having a problem with? I can still open it without issue. Or is it the db file itself?
Edit: I rezipped it with a different compression. Let me know if that made any difference.
-
This is the mod I was discussing in a previous thread, that fixes some of the ammunition issues. It also fixes some item names and Americanizes others, plus changes some things for the sake of consistency. I'd appreciate your thoughts and feedback!

Err, yeah, I can't read Russian though.
-
7.62x54R
Cartridges of the World (8th Edition) lists it as the 7.62x53Rmm Russian and states that it is sometimes called the 7.62x54Rmm. In addition, S3 lists it as 7.62x53Rmm, so I simply left the length unchanged. You're right about me forgetting the "R" however.
DP-27.Jane's Guns Recognition Guide states that it was adopted in 1928 "after two years of trials".
AFAIK incorrect. Really this is a 7.65x17. "Nationality" of this weapon (Sauer 38X) is german (or swiss), and american name convention (.32 ACP, BTW really - .30 ACP) is not applicable for it."Designed by John Browning for his first successful automatic pistol, this cartridge was first manufactured by FN in Belgium, and introduced in 1899. It was marketed in the U.S. when Colt turned out a pocket automatic on another Browning patent in 1903. The 32 Automatic is one of the more popular pistol cartridges ever developed... In Europe, every company that made automatic pistols chambered the 32 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol).... In Europe, it is known as the 7.65mm Browning, while in the U.S. it is designated as the 32 Auto or 32 ACP."
-
I'd be interested. Mind you, the mod I'm currently working is just to straighten out errors in the game as is. I'm not yet at a point where I want to start messing with weapon stats and balance. After that I'm going to start looking at adding some content, so perhaps that can be the possibility of collaboration.
-
I'd rather not introduce another ammo type if I can help it. The 7.65mm Parabellum isn't in the game or used by any other weapon, and I'd prefer that at least a couple of guns use any particular cartridge. Another possibility would be to chamber it for the Sauer 38's 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP), as there were also experimental Lugers in this caliber as well.
My main concern now is making sure that with all my changes, enemies spawn with the correct magazines for their weapon.
Here's a list of what I've done so far:
Replaced the .38 "British Service" ammo type with the .30 Mauser, for use in the Mauser Broomhandle pistols.
Replaced the DeLizl .45 ammo type with the .38 Special, for use in the S&W Colt Detective Special.
Replaced one of the Luger clips with the .30 Mauser clip for use in the Mauser Broomhandle pistols.
Both Thompson SMGs and their magazines now use .45 ACP ammo.
The Bren LMG magazine now holds 30 rounds.
The Johnson LMG and its magazine now use .30-06 ammo.
The Colt Detective Special now uses .38 Special ammo.

The 1926 and M712 Mauser C-96s now use .30 Mauser ammo.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with the British Luger. I honestly have no idea what this ".38 British Service" is and can't find any record of it. I've just made it a 9mm for now, which from what I can tell is what the British versions used. But now it's not really any different from the standard P08, so what's the point?
I'm considering changing it to a .45 Luger, which was a very rare .45 ACP variant that was made as a submission for US Army testing in 1906. It wouldn't make any sense at all for it to show up on the front lines, but then S3 seems to revel in making test and experimental weapons available to soldiers.
-
You know what? It seems to have worked after all. I was testing this in an existing S3 game that I added the mod to using S3AddMod.exe. The Johnson LMG I carried still listed ".30 Carbine" as its ammo type, but when I unloaded it, the ammo clip correctly said ".30-06 Springfield". I sold the Johnson back to the store then bought it again. Voila! It now lists its ammo as .30-06 and so do the clips he sells. Hooray!
-
I'm trying to correct a few ammo issues (the Johnson LMG should use .30-06 and the Thompsons should both use .45 ACP). However, my changes to clips seem to have no effect on the game, even though my changes to weapon, ammo, and clip names are all working fine.
What I've done is go into RPGClips and change the AmmoGroup for #103 (Johnson LMG clip) to "5", so that it uses the same ammo as the Browning BAR and M1 Garand. But this doesn't seem to change anything. So I assume I'm looking at the wrong column. I have no idea where else to look though. Has anyone had any success with this?
P.S. This is for S3.
-
I'm working on a weapons mod myself. It fixes a lot of the problems you describe with regard to ammo and weapons. For instance, both Thompson SMGs will use .45 ACP ammo, and their names have been swapped. Also, the .38 Parabellum is changed to 9mm Parabellum, the 7.62mm Springfield is renamed to .30-06, and the 7.62mm Garand is changed to .30 Carbine. This is just a few examples; the whole list is too long for me to remember fully right now. Mainly it corrects strange errors and Americanizes ammo names where appropriate (what can I say, I'm American). After that's done, I'm going to look at adding new weapons.
