  1. Would be nice Darkfyre, but expansion in this game is tougher than we think, unless you have cheated or have military tactics that surpass Rommel or Monty from WWII(well maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration).

How far have you managed to expand so far anyhow?,and what are your long term goals/strategies?.

From what he said in his post, it would appear that he only has the starting base at the moment, as he only has 5 buildings (unless he's captured more bases but not connected them with tracks).

  2. Well, since the game has been delayed futher here I've been looking into the demo files. The flatster doesn't seem to be very fast. In fact, the human male is faster than it and the rest move at the same speed. It is faster than brainmen and morelmen but it's strong points are it's amazing stealth. It is one of the stealthiest creatures of the game:

It must have a bloody high Agility then (assuming that's what increases movement speed)!

  3. To research Basic Human Weapons, you need to have a Basic Weapons Lab (or something like that). I think the lab has to be researched by the Laputa lab? Then you build on (or more) in a base, & research Basic Human Weapons.

After that you have to research Human Firearms, which allows you to research Blueprints for the various human weapon types (like submachine guns, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, etc). When you've researched the relevant Blueprint you can build the gun & any "normal " ammo it uses.

IIRC Human Firearms gives you the ability to make Desert Eagles in the Basic Weapon Factories, 9mm ammo, 5.56 ammo & 7.76 (?) ammo in the Ordinance Factories.

  4. Resources will be delivered from a province to the capital of that country for free. If you've only got provinces in Central Europe, then you won't need tracks. If you've got provinces outside of Central Europe (like one in France, or Denmark, etc) then you need to build a track to the capital of that country. If you don't have the capital of that country, then to get the resources from the province, you need to build a track to it.

Eg. You've got all the CE provinces, you've also got one of the French provinces (but not Paris), if you want the resources to be collected from the French provinces, you either need to build a track to that province from Stutgart, or capture Paris & build a track there from Stutgart.

  5. You use WinME? you're very brave :)

Don't start... :P I would still be using 98SE, but my parents gave my wife a pc with ME on it & I couldn't get my 98SE PC to see it on the network, so I "upgraded" mine to ME as well...

Kret, as I posted on that other thread, I'm not entirely sure where to put the 2 MS files...

  6. The Demo won't run on my pc (WinME), it comes up with the following error:

    RegisterClass Error:

    Can't register window class "wndclassSimplest".

Perhaps you are running under WIN9x with UNICODE and you don't have MSLU.

Ok, so I am (kinda) running Win9x, but what's MSLU, how do I get it & will the full game run on WinME?

If it doesn't, I'm (needless to say) not going to be a happy camper...

    *looks at requirements*

    :P

  7. I'd have to agree that the engine for SS was (& still is) by far the best I've ever seen for this kind of game. I think I prefered UFO as a game, but SS was more immersive due to the capabilities of the engine & the detail that had gone into the world.

I'd also probably agree with everybody (regardless of what they said they prefered :D ).

  8. Well, if you want more work to do...

You could always (if you haven't already) turn you hand to the UFO/Xcom weapons (UFO laser pistol/rifle/heavy laser, UFO plasma pistol/plasma rifle/heavy plasma, pistol/rifle/heavy cannon from UFO, maybe the sonic weapons from TFTD & some weapons from Apocalypse).

If you've got any screenshots you'd like to show us, I for one'd love to see them...

EDIT: Oh, and a hunting rifle like the one from Fallout 1/2 would be nice too.

  9. Who knows how long it would take for them to provide a few hooks and turn a few things on, maybe only an hour or two.

And how long to check that it doesn't make anything else fall over?

  10. Yeah, I think Phases has something to do with that (& that's what I meant by them "spawning" - under the influence of listofphases.txt(?)).

But you can add additional custom missions & get them to occur ingame?

  11. This is probably a cheaky/lazy question (esp given that I haven't searched the forum), but has anybody tried/succeeded in adding additional Area 51-type (ie. Go into a base & "acquire" some hardware) missions? And/or getting the missions to "spawn" in a particular phase of the game?
  12. If I remember correctly, this may have something to do with the datasheets (can't remember which one, the one that lists all the AMMO_IDs I think - listofammo) saying that plasma weapons only use one pellet, whereas shotguns always use 15 pellets.
