I have 2 computers, one is an altar of (current) gaming and the other one has been sitting in my closet for over a year now. The problem is that my primary OS has Windows 8.1 installed and if you enjoy certain older games that require DirectDraw, you're shit out of luck. Now mind you, there are jury rigged workarounds but it's a hassle and I'd rather play these older games in their native OS.

Enter the KVM Switch. Now if you don't know what it is, it's basically a way to connect two computers with one monitor. Some have VGA attachments, DVI, USB, etc etc. The point is, with a press of a clicker you can access two computers, laptops or towers, hell they have some versions that can even connect to a video game console, Now if you've been reading this far into this topic you either A.) Know what I'm talking about or B.) want to know more C.) genuinely enjoy my topics (ha) I'll post some direct links if you're confused.

So my question to all of you is.... If you had 2 computers, What would your preferred 2 OS's be? We know I have Windows 8.1 and the other one is Windows 7. However, even 7 has conflicts with older games (I don't mean DOS, it even has issues with 95' & 98'). I'm starting to lean towards XP, on my second OS.

So give my your thoughts, sage advice and criticism.

At least one Star Trek "Fan Film" has propelled itself past mere fandom by employing the help of movie and television professionals who are also rabid Star Trek Fans and together they are creating a studio quality independent Star Trek production called "Star Trek Axanar".
Employing top acting talent like, Richard Hatch, Tony Todd, JG Hertzler, and Kate Vernon, along with professional movie makers and support staff, Axanar is out to prove that you don't need millions of dollars and a studio to produce a great movie.

The Story of Star Trek: Axanar

“Axanar” takes place 21 years before the events of “Where no Man Has Gone Before”, the first Kirk episode of the original Star Trek. Axanar is the story of Garth of Izar, the legendary Starfleet captain who is Captain Kirk’s hero. Kirk himself called Garth the model for all future Starfleet Officer’s. Garth charted more planets than any other Captain and was the hero of the Battle of Axanar, the story of which is required reading at the academy. This is that story.

“Axanar” tells the story of Garth and his crew during the Four Years War, the war with the Klingon Empire that almost tore the Federation apart. Garth’s victory at Axanar solidified the Federation and allowed it to become the entity we know in Kirk’s time.

To prove their concept, the Axanar team has produced a twenty minute, History Channel style short where the major players in the Battle of Axanar look back at what happed leading up to the battle. Check out the trailer for "Prelude To Axanar" on their web site at https://startrekaxana...nar.com/. Then head over to their kickstarter at: https://www.kickstar...tar-trek-axanar to see the full twenty minute Prelude To Axanar".

Please keep the dream moving forward by donating whatever amount the work so far inspires in you.

Do you people have a music topic? I can't find one and it seems strange.

Just tell everyone what bands you like, maybe post pictures if you have them.

Personally I'm a big Jrock fan, my favourites being Malice+Mizer, Dir En Grey, Moi Dix Mois, I also like more techno outfits like Schwarz Stein and although lots and lots of Mana fans consider him a bit of traitor (since he went from the whole Gothic Aristocrat look and style, to pop music almost overnight) I can't stop loving Gackt!

    Mana^

    Pretty, isn't he?
    Yes it's a man!
A very old picture, he dresses in a very gothic style now, he doesn't always dress like a girl (sadly) though he never looks explicitly male, which i like, he also hadly ever speaks in public and he never sings - he just writes all the music for his group (Moi Dix Mois and Malice+Mizer before that) and plays some of the instruments (usually Guitar, but also Violin, Harp, and a few others)

Well anyway, those are my favourite artists, with Mana being my all time most beloved. i'd like to hear about some of yours.

Hello, it's time again for another AAR, for you people out there who don't have time / money / PC to play games (I'm talking to you Mr. Obvious guy).

In this episode we will jump into the world of Shadowrun - a cyberpunk/fantasy game set in the future. I won't be describing the settings so if you want more go to wiki. I'll just pop short background of the world

Generally Shadowrun is base on some sort of different stories, similary experienced like in Call of Cthullu, Paranoia, The Burning Wheel, etc.

From the title you can gather that I will "playing" a story called Dead Man's Switch. It's the first story that came with Shadowrun Returns on PC.

The main hero of this story is a male elf called Silverado. He is a street samurai from profession. A street samurai is a warrior type class, that can go with melee weapons or guns. Since elfs are naturally dexterous creatures it's obvious that he will be using guns, because guns are awesome. His background comes from corporate security, so this will help him fast talk situation resolving guards.

The story begins in a unknown place. It's the current Silverados hideout. Upon returning home, our hero gets a strange phone call. It was Sam Watts, our old friend. At first Silverado was surprised to get such a call, but Sam cut to the chase and was blunt. He was dead.

Sam's "ghost" continues to talk and he mentions our another old friend Dowd. He mentioned a run where Dowd died. That triggered a memory event for Silverado and we jump back 3 years into the past to that sad day.

It was somewhere in the docks in Seattle. The team was waiting for a guy named fixer, who was late. Something wasn't right and Sam knew that. He had his suspicion, that we were framed by someone. He was pretty sure it was team's mage New Larry.

At first we didn't believe that accusation, but he had good points. We were suppose to meat in a public place, but the area is strangely empty. Not so soon after we were attacked by the enemies and Larry tried to escape.

The enemies blocked every escape route and we had to kill them fast. After winning the battle, the memory flash ends and we are back to the present. As Same continues his speech, he explains that he wants his murderer found and brought to justice - dead or alive.

He has contacted law firm - Rogers, Mengert & McCain to oversee the investigation and should be contacted upon job completed.

With last words of promising to find the killer our hero goes to Seattle. His first destination is Organ Grinders - a legal chop shop for body parts, and a place were the local coroner works. There we can find Sam's body and start doing investigation.

In the back of the shop the coroner is working on a body. His name is Dresden. After brief introduction he shows us the body of Sam and gives an insight of the situation. Firstly Sam was a victim of a murderer that goes by the nickname Emerald Ripper - he is sort of imitation of the original Jack the Ripper. Secondly Sam wasn't the first victim. Third every victim got a missing organ and in case of Sam it was liver.

Suddenly our conversation was interrupted by a big troll. It was Detective McKlusky. Not a friendly type of a cop. Very eager to solve this riddle but only that it would grant him promotion. That allowed to get a closer look at Sams body. Upon closer examination, a plastic card with name "The Seamstress Union" was found, a credstick with ¥300 nuyen. There was also a note, but it was illegible.

After this quick search we go introduce ourselves to the McKlusky. He didn't seem happy, when we told him, that we are investigating Sam's death. When McKlusky left, Dresden told more about the murderer. He also asked to go find someone in the morgue.

There we find Jake Armitage, a friendly fellow and a local to the place. He drops here often to turn down the heat. Jake was with Sam at the night of the murder, they were sort of drinking buddies, so he will try and help us and will show the place where Sam was found dead. But he also has a little business to take care and we need to help him. He has some trouble with local gang and they need to be taught a lesson.

There is no point in arguing, so a deal is made.

My intention with the ceiling was to retain its wooden look yet to make it lighter, thus room look bigger and keep a lot more light.

So I decided to buy a white non-covering lacquer, dissolve it a bit more and apply a thin coat. This would make original dark brown colour a lot lighter.

    Starting.

So. Do you see silk-like evenly applied coating that made my ceiling look lighter?

    You don't?

THAT IS BECAUSE THERE IS NONE, DAMMIT!!!

It looked cool on the tester, a board that I painted. But the board was not a big one and it was very smooth. I was able to apply the damn lacquer very evenly. THIS crap looks as if...
I COATED THE CEILING WITH A THIN LAYER OF BIRD POO! https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/crying.gifhttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/blowup6ba.gifhttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/vomit-smiley-020.gifhttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/head_wall.gifhttps://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/swear.gif

Anyway, I need to meditate on this bird poo a bit, but it is most likely that I'll buy a covering wood finish and paint the damn ceiling. It will look somewhat plastic but compared to what I did...

A fight between a Chen-style taiji chap, and a Muay Thai fighter. Interesting.

Well, training has suffered under the regime of a new girlfriend, I won't lie. I've managed to keep my regular schedule, mostly, but any kind of drop off was bound to have a effect. I'm only training twice this week, for instance, and due to dojo politics and a few other reasons, I've been less and less inclined to go. A recent dan preparation course left me knowing absolutely I wasn't ready for my black belt yet, and after almost six months of girlfriend this didn't come as a surprise. I can taste the frustration coming off my instructors when they talk about my training, I timed getting a girlfriend completely wrong, in a way that basically capped the peak of my training and I'm now falling down the other side of the mountain I climbed. There's no rush from my side, but the urgings I'm receiving make me feel like if I hadn't picked up a lady, I'd be testing for my black this month.

That aside, I'm going to get back to aikido at least 4-5 times a week, and look into taiji and Wing Chun too. Taiji may not work out (£6 a lesson or £25 per month, when I can only make a maximum of four 1.5hr lessons per month), but Wing Chun is looking good, even if it is only once a week. Hopefully I can go twice, and pick up my striking a bit more.

Zombies, Run! has helped egg me on to improve my aerobic fitness, and although I'm fitter by far than I used to be, I'm also aware of just how unfit I am, and especially of putting on weight over the last couple of weeks. This can be a vicious cycle, so it's best to break it with training, plenty of exercise, and just avoiding the crap a lot of people eat altogether. Sadly, this also means dropping beer for a while, too, which is a harsh thing to have to do to yourself. It's quite amusing to see my slim, football-playing, regular-running gf complain about how fat she's getting when it's the first observable fat I've seen on her, and then look at myself, who never met a pie he didn't like.

Speaking of which, milady passed her orange grading recently, and not too shabbily either. Teaching her things has helped me improve, and knocking aside the kiddy short-term stuff for more important things like principles and developing good foundations will hopefully circumvent problems a lot of beginners encounter. She always pays attention, and always tries, which is rare enough, but she also happens to be clever, and does her best to be methodical. Her training is always mindful, and it's a joy to see someone pay attention to what you say and what they are doing.

On the injury side, my broken finger is healed, I think, which is good. Sadly, at an aikidoka wedding, much alcofrolics ensued, and I've injured another finger, and although it isn't broken (I hope) I must have dislocated it or strained it badly, because it still hurts weeks later. My shoulders, too, are not improving, so I will need to begin a good regimen of physiotherapy for them beyond doing lots of press ups.
