A Strategic Supplement

by on 27th Nov 2012

Improve your diet with Blood, Grain and Steel. Recommended for your lunch breaks, this latest creation of UK-based David Walters Development should help you fill that little strategic spot you felt was left unduly vacant in your free time.

Inspired by classic board games this title has a game world composed of 280 individually hand-crafted game boards, with diverse terrain types, which can be played in small bursts if time is limited or in grandiose sessions spanning hours of turn-based tactical goodness and strategic plotting.

Tackle the grand campaign full-on or enjoy the included individual skirmish battles, either versus the AI or against an opponent in hot-seat, LAN or PBEM. The rules are fairly straightforward but, should you need it, assistance is always at hand via the built-in interactive tutorial or by consulting the freely available PDF manual (direct link).

Modding is supported, the game was recently updated to v1.0.1068 and we have word that another patch with more improvements is in the works right now.

There's a demo if you want to sate your hunger immediately, but if you prefer to have someone else give you a taste of the proceedings beforehand this gameplay video by Out Of Eight's Mr. James Allen should have you well covered.

On a final note: the issues encountered during the recording of that clip have already been fixed, so there's now no longer any reason not to 'dig in' outright.
