A Starry Outlook

Stars, our destination. So often do they capture our imagination, from just looking at the night sky, to reaching for control of entire galaxies in the games we play. One such game so captivated people that decades past it is fondly remembered still by many - now, it seems, Star Control is to shine again.

Responsible for such cherished series as Galactic Civilizations and the Sins of a Solar Empire, Stardock has now come forward with this great bit of news for fans of space strategy games:

Stardock is pleased to announce that it has secured the rights to the classic PC franchise Star Control with the intent to develop a new Star Control game. Development on the new game will begin this year with a release date to be determined at a later time.

Brad Wardell, president and CEO of Stardock says:

We expect the new Star Control to come in the form of a reboot, similar to what Firaxis did with the XCOM series last year. We are looking at Star Control II as a major source of inspiration.

If the company's track record in the segment is anything to go by, and if the stars come into alignment just right, something special could well emerge. We'll be sure to keep an eye in the sky for this one.
