A glimpse of a Third World War. It's what we are offered a glean of in the latest Through The Keyhole feature pertaining On Target Simulations' Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm, an upcoming grand tactical wargame, where a new worldwide conflict is underway.

Brief:

In FPC:RS you will be the commander of either NATO (United States, United Kingdom or West Germany) or Soviet forces locked in battle on the ground in Central Europe. As commander, it is your task to provide the battle plan orders to your units. You will need to think on the fly and adjust to the ever changing flow of battle.

Each hex covers 500 meters of central European countryside, and the game turns are split into an orders phase and then execution phase. (...) The time period covered is 1979 to 1989.

We have hundreds of different units, variations and configurations of hardware. A vast listing of formations. As the name says, we are also expanding into campaigns. You will work with a core of forces through a number of battles.

Maps and Scenarios. Got a bunch of them. At last count we were hitting about 30 maps and about the same for scenarios. Each map covers 15km x 20 km of terrain modeled straight from Google Earth maps. The game features scenarios playable solo from either side versus our gritty AI or go head to head using PBEM++.

A handful of extra screenshots has now been made available. Word from high command is that this title is currently in Beta, with a late summer release being the plan, but subject to change should unexpected contingencies arise.
