  1. Thanks for the replies everyone! NKF, that read is incredible... It answers a boat-load (no pun intended) of questions I had about my previous failures with TFTD. Thanks a bunch. E
  2. Thanks for the help guys, I will try fodders again tonight after work. Although feel free to do that follow up Blade, that will more than likely help immensely! How about the other question I posted? Concerning researching "Cydonia or Bust," to my recollection that should require an Etheral Commander, is that correct? Thanks again! E
  3. Hi ShadowBlade, Which file is the game executable? I tried changing the file as per the directions, but still got the same error. Could you describe it to me or post a screen shot? Also, I am doing a bug check on a similar prob I had a long time ago with TFTD (Dos) which concerned the inability to build the "Ultimate Craft." For UFO Defense (not TFTD), what do you need to research "Cydonia or Bust?" I really appreciate everyone's help, the referencing throughout the website has really made this exercise workable! E
  4. Almost there, as far as researching the theoreticals are concerned. Another problem I meant to ask about concerns the fodder loader. I am having no luck running fodder at all. Which icon exactly should I be attempting to run from. I attempted to run from the ?ld_XCom? (looks looks like a sun) but all I got was some funky error message. Any idea? Given the progress, I am probably going to reattempt an install on my XP comp. Will I need any patches or downloads running CE on XP, or shall I just change the compatibility configuration? Thanks everyone!
  5. Hi Blade, Would happen to know about the crash issue I am having?
  6. I was thinking that too, but when I loaded up the game, it still ran extremely fast. Would you mind refreshing my memory about how to the game game speed? Is it under the save function during the tactical scenarios? Also, would you mind detailing me on how you ran the Gold Edition on XP? ie, any downloads, patches, etc? Thanks, E
  7. Hi ShadowBlade, Thanks. I was about to post my specs, just realized I forgot them. I will try your suggestion now. Here are my specs, if anyone hasan idea, please let me know. Thanks in advance! Proc: 250 Mhz 188 MGs RAM Sound: ESS Solo Video: SiS 530/620 Wow, I had no idea how primative this comp is, and what's worse is I have an older one!
  8. HI everyone, Well I think I am almost there. I received my copy of XCOM Gold and dropped into my Win 2000 Compaq, 500 MHz. I installed Turbo.exe, set it to 65% and voila, the game was working, sound and all. However, what was sporadic crashing during the early months of the game became chronic later on. I have saved in a situation where two ufos are about to fly into Geoscape and approximately 5-10 seconds after they both arrive, the game crashes to windows. Does anyone know why this is happening and, more importantly, how do I fix it?
  9. Hey Blade, Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate it. I will be home in about two more days. What time zone are you in? E
  10. Hi guys, Thanks for coming through. To answer some questions: I am using everything except floppies. I purchased the Gold Edition years ago and have been attempting to install it, literally, ever since. I want to say the specs are approximately 433-500 Mhz IBMs Win 98 (my good comp is XP 1.8G and I have no clue about video and sound cards, how important are the cards in themselves?), unfortunately I do not have them in front of me as I am on an assignment out of state. If anyone feels like speculating on the topic to help me out, that would be awesome. If you guys should figure out the problem for me, I will gladly export some British pounds in your favor. "God save the Queen" at this point, whatever I have to do to get the game running I will update again this weekend when I can divulge more information, thanks again! E
  11. Hello fellow XCOM fans, It is refreshing to find a group that is as passionate about the game as I am. In fact, I have been searching for you all for a very, very long time. As indicated in the topic, I need serious help. I have reordered the XCOM Gold edition, which makes the third set of XCOM software I have purchased thus far. Of course, I am having tremendous difficulties running the game on XP, so much so that I have given and acquired an older computer in attempt to successfully run the game. I have followed every direction listed so far, ie dosbox, file copying etc... but still to no avail.. Please someone help! I am losing my mind! Problems so far: Getting the game to run at a normal speed, getting dosbox to work at all, getting the sound to work, getting around some annoying error messages: some "Geoscape" error and another that says "something or another is being used by another program," after which the game gets a funny pink picture and plays nothing but the music. The last computer I used was built in 1998, has a decent processor, and Windows 98. I have another computer that will be arriving this weekend. It is 1995 issue with Win 1995, I am hoping I will have more luck with that one. I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO COMPENSATE ANYONE WHO WILL ASSIST ME IN THIS ENDEAVOR... Thanks in advance, E
